The Queue: Guides, clipping, guilds, and downloader problems

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
Man, with all those Queue comments yesterday, you'd think Alex said something about how terrible Parmesan Cheese was.
Alfuemro asked:
After reading yesterday post about celestial tournament i came to the conclusion that most people stick to guides in order to beat content. Have you ever considered that online guides kinda ruins the overall wow experience and exploration its meant to have?
I don't feel that guides ruin the content, what the guides do is allow more people to experience a wider range of content. Now I am biased; WoW Insider is in the business of providing this kind of advice. But there's a fundamental reason I'm ok with doing all of this, and that's because I know if resources like this didn't exist, then I'd have no chance at experiencing a game like World of Warcraft.
I think it's easy for all of us to underestimate just how gigantic WoW is. The game has been around a decade -- people who were 11 years old playing their first online computer game in 2004 are now of drinking age in the US. Let that sink in for a minute... 10 years of content development, of aging, of design changes, and of evolution.
If anything calls for a guide, WoW is it. And not to diminish your question, because I do think it's a good one, but if someone doesn't like a guide, then just don't read it.
Blundnation asked:
Has Blizzard stated anything about addressing the art clipping on the new models. I've tried a male and dwarf and both have severe issues with the cloaks clipping through the shield and 2h weapons! Thanks!
Clipping is going to happen no matter what -- it's an unfortunate part of modern game engines and mechanics. However, that doesn't mean there are not things that Blizzard can do to minimize it; they are, infact, trying to do so -- but it's going to take a long time to get all of WoW's gear in order. Don't expect it to happen overnight, maybe in a couple years.
That said, I know the new models are going to present their own issues, but overall clipping has been extremely reduced, I've found.
KristyK asked:
Just started a new guild and having trouble recruiting lowbies to level it. Is it actually worth leveling it to 25 before the expansion? We're losing so many perks as it is...And if so, is there really a good way to level a guild besides rolling new toons and questing like a mad woman?
Guild levels are gone, and the perks are being rolled into baseline things you get for just being in a guild. I would avoid leveling a guild right now, and just have fun with the game. Unless your fun is leveling something that's going to be removed shortly, then sure, do that.
Jaybrown asked:
So....Background updater. I don't think I am downloading the new patch. Everytime I pull up my Battle.net launcher it says preparing to download, gives me a number, then i come back a few hours later and it says "we had trouble downloading"
Am I doing something wrong?
It's hard to diagnose what's going on right now, but I think the best thing you can do is to make sure that your firewall isn't blocking anything, both on Windows and on your router, and that there are no other network connectivity problems. Baring that, it was suggested that you try running the Battle.net app as an administrator, which you can do by right clicking the app and selecting "Run as Administrator." That will sometimes help solve pesky file permission issues that could be preventing the updater from running correctly.
If all that fails, post on the technical support forms. Blizzard has a team of people that are there to help, and they do quite a good job.
