We've gone from simple white squares on a screen to photorealistic cutscenes and gameplay. We used to have monochrome backgrounds, and now we've got lush, textured environments. Most players come upon a game with an expectation of what level of graphical advancement they would like to see.

Likewise, gameplay has evolved in leaps and bounds. We no longer suffer extreme death penalties, and we can find random people to run dungeons and raids with by only clicking a couple of buttons. New gameplay ideas are being presented seemingly with each patch, and to a lot of success -- a simple gameplay hook can keep people coming back and playing a game for months, even years.

But are the two mutually exclusive, and have they become so?

Obviously, in an MMO, no one wants to run around an ugly world populated by trees that look like pipe cleaners, but is it a deal breaker? Would you rather play a fun, fulfilling game that looks a bit dated or play the most gorgeous, graphically stunning MMO that may lack good mechanics or an involving story?

Readers were shown the early days of not only Brynne and Lisaara but their indomitable Papa as well, the older dwarf who adopted and loved them like his own. We got to see the heartbreaking story of Komlir Stonestrike, who even after answering the Alliance's call lost everything he held dear. Finally, we got to see how our dear Horde grunts fit into the whole time line.

The writer, Jeff, and I felt it was important for the readers to have a sense of what their adoptive father was like. We felt that it not only fleshed out the girls' history much better, but you would also get a much greater sense of loss, knowing what a great man (dwarf?) Stonestrike really was. Yes, he was a workaholic (can you be a workaholic in the military?), but he ended up paying the ultimate price for it. While it's short, Papa had a story of redemption and acted on his new-found desire to make up for unwittingly abandoning his family.

As with all projects I undertake, I always hope to come out learning something new. I felt that as a whole, this little morsel of a story turned out quite nicely, although drawing dwarves is hard; I won't lie. There's the "Samwise look" I had to study for the first few pages ...

What do you do for WoW Insider?

I use my wacky art skills to draw the WoW Insider's Weekly Webcomic. Safe Passage: The Prologue is the story that's currently running. I'm also the resident Photoshop wizard when someone ... needs something Photoshopped, I suppose.

What's your main?

My main is Cadistra, a female Tauren feral druid. She was my first character that I made on a trial account, and I couldn't be happier. She's also the co-star of my webcomic, World of Warcraft, Eh?

What's the best 5-man instance in the game? What's the best raid?

The best 5-man? A bizarre tie of Halls of Reflection, the new Deadmines, and Oculus. HoR, because when I looked behind me after Arthas had fended off Sylvanas and he started walking after me, I was scared like you wouldn't believe. That steady, unyielding pace, while myself and the rest of my team was frantically slaying the undead ... I will always remember that. DM, because it's genuinely fun, and Oculus, because I enjoyed the dragon mechanics. Also, I adore the voice acting for Ley-Guardian Eregos.

I don't raid, but I love doing old content. My favorite raid is the Temple of Ahn'Quiraj. That place felt epic. Gross, but epic.

If you remember this comic and wonder why they're outside when Brynne remembers them inside, it's because small children have wild imaginations and terrible memories. It is certainly not because the artist and the writer forgot and wrote it differently.

One year later, and I'm back where I started. To this day, I still can't believe that after my flagship comic, Byron, the Tauren Rogue, I was given the green light for another comic series. Safe Passage was actually one of the two ideas that I originally approached WoW Insider for, but I settled on Byron for my own reasons.

Byron was immensely helpful in more ways than one. If you remember my postmortem from last time, it was essentially my training wheels, a way for me to get a feel for the processes, along with my own strengths (and weaknesses) in comic creation. The first and most important thing I had to do was to get a writer. My guild leader once again agreed to help me flesh out the story from the beginning, so I hope the story was more consistent this time around.

Safe Passage began when I first heard of the post-Cataclysm Camp Taurajo quest lines. I actually hadn't done the quests when I wrote this; I hadn't gotten into the beta, so I went purely on research. If you know of my other work, then you know I have a soft spot for our large, bovine friends, and I thought that the Taurajo situation in Cataclysm was the perfect level of ambiguity to make an interesting story.

Episode 1, Road Trip, has our online heroes traveling to the Megagame-o-Ramacon, the aptly named convention of all things gaming. The Knights of Good will have their work cut out for them, as the fruits of road trips -- and the actual destination -- never come easily.

Felicia Day, the show's creator, and the rest of The Guild were at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, where fans saw a preview of this episode.

Every now and then, an Easter Egg is found in game. Blizzard loves its pop culture references, secret nooks and crannies, and everything in between. Recently, this popped up: a secret grove, hidden in the Whispering Forest of Western Tirisfal.

While it's unknown when they spawn (I've heard every six hours or so, but I'm not sure), a troupe of faerie dragons slowly flies to this mushroom ring and begins to sing.

Tendrils of golden light flow and meet in the center of the circle, while ethereal music notes float all around. A beautiful little piece of music accompanies all of this, lasting about two and a half minutes. The infected animals of the Whispering Forest even come around to witness the performance. After they're done, the dragons leave and despawn.
