Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

I've been a pretty vocal critic of Diablo 3 in the past, and it still has its issues, but with the latest patch this game is insanely fun to play in Inferno. On Monster Power 1 or higher, the monster density is really high, especially in act 1, and it's an absolute blast to play through with others.

DanielHudson asked:

Still not following how Goblins can wield the Light. Wielders are supposed to be selfless from what I can tell. Goblins are the complete opposite, greedy little buggers.

You're probably thinking of paladins. Priests require discipline and force of will, not selflessness, to wield the light. Goblins are generally devoted to the almighty gold piece, so if the Light can help them get it, well, of course they'll use it. Light is money, friend!
Continue reading The Queue: No, seriously

The Queue: No, seriously originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 12 May 2013 16:00:00 EST.
"Wow, we're all so shocked that Mike posted a video of a tiny ungulate!" - No one.

Drindaar_Lightkeeper asked:

Do you think along with new models we could see greater customization options? Like a choice of noses, eyes, etc. Maybe even a choice of sub-race (wretched, broken, etc.) as long as it made sense lore wise? Or will the character creator remain the same with just a shinier models.

I don't want to be too cynical, but I think it would be best to go into this with the expectation that we'll just be getting newer, shinier models instead of sweeping customization changes and additions. Whatever we get will be lovely, I'm sure. Just maybe don't expect more.
Continue reading The Queue: Mouse deer

The Queue: Mouse deer originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 10 May 2013 11:00:00 EST.
This weekend is/was the Golden Weekend in The Secret World, so I played through the latest content update and got to hang out with my favorite character: posh immortal trade-prince mummy Saïd.

Chrth asked:

If the Celestials hadn't opened the gates to the Vale, would the Mogu have gotten in?

The mogu were, in fact, already in the Vale. One of the first quests you complete for the Golden Lotus has you blowing up a cave that the mogu were using to send reinforcements into the Vale, probably through an ancient network of tunnels (or the product of heavy mogu labor in recent years).
Continue reading The Queue: Last train to Cairo

The Queue: Last train to Cairo originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 05 May 2013 16:00:00 EST. I've yet to survive a full game of the excellent Spelunky, but videos like this make me want to persevere.

RyanStansifer asked:

Which source is the correct source for triggering the achievement "Mount Parade?" Battle.net or the in-game mount pane?

It triggers based on how many mounts your specific logged-in character has access to. The number on the Armory counts all mounts, whereas the one in-game takes faction and class into account.
Continue reading The Queue: I hate snakes

The Queue: I hate snakes originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 04 May 2013 12:00:00 EST. It looks like Blizzard has begun revealing Hearthstone cards prior to release, with the first being the Void Terror warlock minion. This big bad blue dude absorbs the minions on either side of him, adding their power and life to his own. Even temporary power or health bonuses, like the +4/+4 from Power Overwhelming, are made permanent inside the Void Terror's blue belly. Need to protect from an incoming AOE attack? Gobble your other little minions up and let your Void Terror take the attack instead. It's a super simple and super powerful effect, fitting for a warlock and especially for Gul'dan, currently the game's sole warlock hero.

Check out all of our Hearthstone coverage thus far and stay tuned as the game gets closer to release.

It's hard being pretty in Azeroth. Everyone's always like "quick, we need you in Arathi Basin right now, I don't care if you're wearing your expensive tunic" or "what do you mean you didn't come fight Nalak because you were busy washing your hair?" There's no thought to how being beautiful might consume our time -- nay, our very being. Some things cannot be rushed, and beauty is one of those things. Do people not appreciate beauty, or do they simply not realize it when they see it? Well, no more. Blizzard has provided every fortunate son and daughter of Azeroth a way to broadcast just how lovely they are: the Gorgeous title, available in patch 5.3 as the reward for the meta achievement for Deepwind Gorge, the brand-new battleground. Sure, it'll take some legwork. Sure, you might break a nail or end up with split ends or, worse, have to interact with trolls in any way whatsoever. But think of how much easier your life will be when you can say "Please excuse me from tonight's challenge dungeon; I'm overdue for an eyebrow waxing," and people will open their mouths, look at your title, and say "Ah, yes. Of course. That seems reasonable."
Probably been a while since I reminded you guys that Warpaint owns, so hey, Warpaint owns, y'all!

jmduarte asked:

Why people is assuming that the expansion ends in 5.4? If I remember correctly, Blizzard said that they wanted to speed up the patches launches (ha ha, that last sentence sounds fun), with shorter waiting time between launches and smaller patches like in Vanilla. Couldn't that mean that we could end in, perhaps, 5.12 or so?

Well, the expansion tends to end when we take out the final boss, and in this case Blizzard has been very clear: Garrosh is the final boss, and we fight him in 5.4. It's a reasonable assumption that's when the expansion will end! If it doesn't, the following patch will almost certainly not be a major content patch.

The Queue: Undertow originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 27 Apr 2013 12:00:00 EST. richie.09 asked:

Is anyone else disappointed that Lorewalker Cho doesn't participate in any battles? Seeing him in the intro cinematic for Pandaria led me to believe that he would help us and have a role in fighting the Mogu. Instead, he just stands there and gives us a history lesson (In Mogu'shan Vaults).

That's not Cho in the intro cinematic; it's Chen Stormstout! Cho is a talker, not a fighter.

The Queue: EDDIE_MURPHY_LAUGH.wav originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 26 Apr 2013 11:00:00 EST. merkavar asked:

can you change spec after the boss dies and then use the extra loot roll to get a different specs gear?

It appears to work this way right now; I'm not sure if it'll continue to work after they plug in Loot Specialization in 5.3, though at that point you won't need to do a workaround anyway!
Continue reading The Queue: Don't touch the hazelnut

The Queue: Don't touch the hazelnut originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 21 Apr 2013 14:00:00 EST. sergel92 asked:

Do you think Blizzard will change the size of LFR in future expansions?

Like instead of 25 maybe make it 15 or 20?

It's pretty unlikely. The reason why Raid Finder mode is 25-person only is because it's the ideal ratio of tanks, healers, and DPS compared to who's waiting in the queue. Going to a smaller size means messing with that ratio and affecting queue times. Like it or not, 25 is the best size for everyone right now.

The Queue: Hey originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 13 Apr 2013 12:00:00 EST. Okay, sure, one more Castlevania music video to round out the weekend.

KvalriSunstrider asked:

Has it ever been explicity stated in lore that the Titanic Watchers or the Dragon Aspects are more powerful than the other? Is an NPC's Level an indication of their power (I mean lore power here, obviously it's an indication of their mechanical power) or of where they fall in the universe's timeline? I know I sometimes try to apply conventional wisdom to WoW where it isn't really applicable, but this has been driving me nuts as I've gotten more and more into the lore.

Unlike old Transformers toy boxes, there's no convenient Power Level Rating for most Azerothian beings. We're not sure who's stronger, or how that strength would even be measured, for that matter.
Continue reading The Queue: Crack that whip

The Queue: Crack that whip originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 07 Apr 2013 14:00:00 EST. NunoMarce asked:

Is there any criteria Blizzard uses when sending free gameplay weeks for inactive accounts ? I ask because I want to resub my girlfriend's account but I was waiting for the free week so she could play the free seven days plus the month, but so far she never got the email from Blizzard. Should be worth mentioning we both received several free weeks in the past, and I got mine as soon as 5.2 hit. Some friends of mine even got the free week twice! What gives?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I'm sure Blizzard has internal criteria for sending out the free weeks -- you could try asking the BlizzardCS Twitter account.
Continue reading The Queue: La hora es tarde

The Queue: La hora es tarde originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 06 Apr 2013 12:00:00 EST. I've been watching all the video game acapella videos this guy made. I love them.

OolongSOE asked:

Wasn't Blizzard going to increase the guild max level to 30 with Mist of Pandaria? Has there been any word if this will actually happen before the last 5.x expansion?

The devs talked about doing this but ultimately backed out, saying they felt it was just updating for updating's sake instead of for a compelling reason. There's been no further indication that the guild level cap will be raised in MoP. We'll see what the next expansion brings.
I finished BioShock Infinite last night and by golly was that a heck of an ending. Highly recommended. Rent it if you can't buy it.

John22 asked:

What is up with new pets dropping from old bosses (Karazan, SSC)? I'm not complaining, but could it be a sign of revamping to come? Heroic Kara? New area discovered? Those scary tombs?

Highly unlikely. Besides a few tweaks to make soloing or small-group play in those raids easier, no changes were made to the other old raids when they added pets to them. Not that I wouldn't love to do heroic Karazhan, mind you.
Continue reading The Queue: He doesn't row

The Queue: He doesn't row originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 31 Mar 2013 14:00:00 EST. drorraz asked:
With the new raiding with leashes pets dropping from SSC bosses, do we get to enter that place solo or do we still have to group for that part?
Prepare to be ANNIHILATED!

Mikk asked:

With the new 5.3 pvp changes and the announcement that resilience will be removed from most items, has there been any indication of what they are going to do with pvp heirlooms? As a recent devote to pvp, I have been working on accumulating all the pvp heirlooms and I would hate to see all that work wasted ... Maybe they will replace the pvp resilience with pvp power on heirlooms? Any info appreciated.
The patch 5.3 PTR patch notes came out before a blog about the PVP changes could be published, so I imagine we'll be hearing a lot about what the changes mean for various types of gear soon (after PAX East).
Continue reading The Queue: Sunday Sunday Sunday

The Queue: Sunday Sunday Sunday originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 24 Mar 2013 14:00:00 EST. Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

It's Sundog! Sleep in! Be happy!

DragonBotherer asked:

Speaking of cloud serpents, I wonder what their overall role in Pandaria is? They must also be Titan creations, given that the Engine of Nalak'sha has a starry serpent interface thing, and there are carvings of them in the center of the Titanic "will of the emperor" construct machine, but they seem to be somewhat elemental in nature with the various "Storm" themed ones. Any theories?

Cloud serpents appear to be natural and native to Pandaria, though much like the rest of Azeroth's great serpents, they can be magically infused (or altered). For example, thundering cloud serpents existed before Lei Shen harnessed the titanic energy in the Throne of Thunder. As for Elegon, it's possible that the mogu, who used the Engine of Nalak'Sha for their own purposes, also repurposed the interface (read: elegon) into something familiar -- like a cloud serpent. It's also possible that, like the mogu, the cloud serpents are titanic creations. We won't know until Blizzard says so.

The Queue: Sundog originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 17 Mar 2013 14:00:00 EST. Richard6 asked:

Now that there are solo scenarios implemented in the game that seem to work very well, what are the chances we will see a kind of raiding "tutorial" scenario, where you choose your role (tank heal or dps)and undergo challenges that push you to your limits. There could be certain levels like easy, medium, hard, etc. and completing them could give an achievement to let people know you ARE qualified to raid even though you haven't done a particular dungeon. Proving Grounds, which Zarhym assures us are still on the way, are meant to fill that particular mastering-your-class tutorial role.

The Queue: Catbug originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 16 Mar 2013 12:00:00 EST.

The Call to Auction podcast, which features our own Basil "Euripides" Berntsen, recently had the opportunity to send a big batch of questions about WoW's auction house, economy, and professions to developers Greg Street and He-Rim Woo. The devs gave out some great info, some highlights of which include:

There are no plans for a sweeping auction house redesign

Due to the popularity of the cooking and blacksmithing catch-up mechanisms, similar mechanisms for herbalism and mining might be on the way

The Guardian Cub experiment was just that, and it's unlikely there'll be another item like it

Splitting items off of a stack in the auction house is also unlikely going forward

It's possible that buy orders will be implemented for high-cost items like Mechano-Hogs, unlikely for stuff like flasks and enchants

The mailbox as the AH delivery system doesn't feel quite right and may eventually change

You can read the full interview on the Consortium forums.
This mashup is...insane. I love it so much. Help.

Red asked:

What is Blizzard's reasoning for locking Raid Finder for the first week of the patch? I can't think of a single good one; in fact, I think it was a terrible idea. Please enlighten me.

As I understand it, it's to give a sense of accomplishment to the people who manage to take out bosses the first week. This way the "normal" raiders get the feeling of (temporary) exclusivity for their kills. This was something that was complained about heavily when the feature was first implemented.
Continue reading The Queue: Call me "mashup"

The Queue: Call me "mashup" originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 10 Mar 2013 14:00:00 EST. Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

The goat video to end all goat videos to end all goat videos.

ash.w.miller asked:

Have bags outlived their usefulness? Just like reagents and ammo, I think its time they get removed from the game entirely. I hope Blizzard uses the next expansion to retool the inventory system and utilize their new UI methods (ex. mounts and pets).

I like how The Secret World handles inventory and I wish WoW did it the same way. You have an expandable inventory and you can create as many custom bags as you want to help you sort your stuff. If you run out of room you can just pay an in-game currency premium and give yourself some more. There are mods that do half of this already but it'd be nice if Blizzard just went all the way with it.

There are obviously other considerations -- the effect on tailoring, for example, or the amount of database traffic Blizzard can handle (which prevents us from having unlimited bag space).
Continue reading The Queue: Humans yelling like goats yelling like humans

The Queue: Humans yelling like goats yelling like humans originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 08 Mar 2013 11:00:00 EST. This is the oldest screenshot I have on this hard drive, from back in Burning Crusade alpha. I don't think I was supposed to be taking screenshots. Don't tell anyone.

Lei Shen was the first mogu emperor, but definitely not the last. He died long, long before the pandaren revolution. There have been a lot of mogu emperors.
Continue reading The Queue: Screenshots of yore

The Queue: Screenshots of yore originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 03 Mar 2013 14:00:00 EST. This is my favorite cinematic trope of all time.
angerfork asked:

So is there a set-in lore reason for the varied strengths of the different Shas? It's 100% gameplay. It also helps to remember that our characters are basically superheroes at this point, but, yeah. Is it possible to clear a current raid with everyone not wearing pants/leggings?

It's possible, sure, but it's gonna be a pain. Legs have a sizeable chunk of stats on them, and taking those stats away from every player in the raid puts you at a significant disadvantage.
Continue reading The Queue: I'd love to see LA

The Queue: I'd love to see LA originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 17 Feb 2013 14:00:00 EST.
The latest WoW TCG set I was creative developer for, Betrayal of the Guardian, just had its full spoiler released -- you can check out the cards on the WoW TCG Facebook page. Hope you like 'em! Lots of Warcraft II stuff (and crocolisk nursery rhymes) in there.

malignantbacon asked:

I thought Gorehowl was Grom's axe? I read the Shattering when it came out, so I'm not too clear but I think Garrosh should drop whatever axe he used in the mak'gora against Carine instead. If it WAS Gorehowl, I think it would be a worthy reason to either move it off the Kara loot table or at some kind of adjective of superiority, though the latter would be a little awkward to see.

Gorehowl was definitely the axe that killed Cairne. Like I said yesterday, it's likely they'll pull an Ashkandi with it and just give it a qualifier.
Continue reading The Queue: Betrayal of the Guardian

The Queue: Betrayal of the Guardian originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 16 Feb 2013 12:00:00 EST. On the the primordial world of "Urth", a primitive race known as "hooman" is busying itself with preparations for an upcoming ritual event. The ritual, which occurs once every few months, is known as "pach'dey", and it brings with it a palpable feeling of excitement for these simple-minded bipeds. This pach'dey looks particularly bountiful for the hoomans, who look forward to seeing exotic new animals, new structures, and even new armaments by the time the ritual is over.

We asked the hoomans how they're preparing for pach'dey.
Continue reading WRUP: Patch 5.2 prep

WRUP: Patch 5.2 prep originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 15 Feb 2013 19:00:00 EST. Footage of the meteor crashing in Russia yesterday is intense! Even the contrail is on fire!

phistu asked:

Will we ever see another Caverns of Time instance now that Nozdormu has lost his power? It doesn't seem like it would make a lot of sense lore-wise but I feel like the CoT-dungeons are too popular for there not to be another one. Not to mention a CoT-scenario. That would be so sweet.

I love the Caverns of Time and I think that Blizzard does too; strictly speaking, if they want to make more CoT content, they'll figure out a way to make it work within the story. They always do.
Continue reading The Queue: Meteor swarm

The Queue: Meteor swarm originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 15 Feb 2013 11:00:00 EST.
Why was Bruce Wayne so scared of these things?

rpandagirl asked:

I got my priest some heirloom gear, which I thought meant I wouldn't need to replace her gear till level 80. But here she is, level 34, and I get a shoulder that increases her stats significantly! Am I missing something? If I have the heirloom gear in my bag but not equipped, do I still get the xp bonus?

The general idea is that even if a piece of gear has better stats than the heirloom gear of the same slot, you'll still level faster and more efficiently with the heirloom gear. A stat increase would have to be absolutely enormous to compete with an XP gain bonus-- far more than a single slot could contribute.

And no, you have to wear the heirloom gear to get the bonus. It doesn't work from your bags.
Continue reading The Queue: Hanging around

The Queue: Hanging around originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 10 Feb 2013 14:00:00 EST.
koboi_K asked:

If the Burning Legion wants to pay a visit to Azeroth, do they always have to be summoned via a portal? Then they need some expert in magics on the receiving end, like in the War of the Ancients. Or do they use space ships or other nether floats giving the freedom to travel wherever they want? Not sure how they came for the Battle of Hyjal.

Demons travel through (and often live) in the Twisting Nether, which is sort of an adjacent dimension to ours. To get to Azeroth, they need portals opened, either by current demonic residents of Azeroth or mortal servants.
Continue reading The Queue: Superb Owl

The Queue: Superb Owl originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 03 Feb 2013 14:00:00 EST.
I've been waylaid by the Death Flu for a week now. In lieu of flowers, send NyQuil.

MikeAnderson asked:

Could you give us a brief introduction to the lore behind Shadowfiends? (Especially as concerns healing priests?)

The wikis have no information on the subject, nor does wowhead. And it seems highly odd that, well. As a healer priest, I get to--every three minutes--summon a misshapen, eldritch beast of shuddering flesh from beyond the veil, throw it at my enemies, and use it to suck out their life force. (Then, once it has outlived its utility, I banish it back from whence it came. No care or feeding whatsoever: just go.)

*Is* there any shadowfiend lore?

No official lore, really. Option 1: the shadowfiend is either a construct or actual living being from a different plane -- specifically, the unknown plane that shadow magic is drawn from -- summoned in temporarily (and at great effort).

Option 2: they're just a psychic illusion like many other shadow priest spells.
Continue reading The Queue: Death Flu 2000

The Queue: Death Flu 2000 originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 02 Feb 2013 12:00:00 EST.
grpcaro asked:

So when Silvanas died in Icecrwon, she went to some kind of hell, all undead go to that place when they die??

It's hard to say. We know that when Arthas died, he "saw only darkness," but as near as we can tell there isn't a belief system on Azeroth that believes in "hell", or deities that would curate a place like that. It could also be that the val'kyr had a close eye on Sylvanas' soul and yanked it into their own little pocket afterlife to scare the crap out of her, given that we still don't really know the val'kyr's motivations for helping her.

The Queue: Slooooooooth originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 27 Jan 2013 14:00:00 EST. You guys might have forgotten that I have a soft spot for ungulates, but this is your reminder. He's so little!!

qwerty31 asked:

Is anyone else bothered by MoP's new respawn technology? For those unaware, respawn times for most mobs are tied to how many people are in the zone (I think that's how it works, at least). This is why on launch, mobs in the Jade Forest respawned literally instantly, there were so many people in the zone.

I dislike it exactly because of its potential instantaneous nature. Often I kill a mob and before its death animation is even finished there's a new one on top of me. And then another one after that. I can chain-pull a couple of guys, but as a squishy mage I can only take so much. I can run, or try to, but sometimes that just doesn't work (like the DO cave mentioned in the queue today -- that place is hell).

It doesn't really bother me because I remember previous expansion launches where I waited 10 minutes between kills for a bottleneck quest. I would rather have too many enemies than too few, every time.
Continue reading The Queue: Darling deer

The Queue: Darling deer originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 11:00:00 EST.

WoW has been out for so long that it's actually a little difficult to remember a time when it wasn't out, but a little trip in the Wayback Machine proves that, yes, WoW was not yet released in 2003. You can check out the original World of Warcraft website, complete with six (not eight) races, six (not nine) classes, and screenshots of areas that no longer exist on this archived version.

I remember looking at this version of the site that year, checking out screenshots and forum threads, getting excited when all of the possible hunter pets were revealed and wanting to make one because they could "dual wield" -- which I thought meant they could dual-wield guns, not one-handed weapons. Needless to say I was disappointed later. I've never rolled a hunter.

Can you believe that at one point we got excited about knowing what kind of spiders we'd be fighting? It truly was a different time. Now we get excited over what kind of dinosaurs we'll be fighting.
