I've been a pretty vocal critic of Diablo 3 in the past, and it still has its issues, but with the latest patch this game is insanely fun to play in Inferno. On Monster Power 1 or higher, the monster density is really high, especially in act 1, and it's an absolute blast to play through with others.

You're probably thinking of paladins. Priests require discipline and force of will, not selflessness, to wield the light. Goblins are generally devoted to the almighty gold piece, so if the Light can help them get it, well, of course they'll use it. Light is money, friend!

I don't want to be too cynical, but I think it would be best to go into this with the expectation that we'll just be getting newer, shinier models instead of sweeping customization changes and additions. Whatever we get will be lovely, I'm sure. Just maybe don't expect more.

The mogu were, in fact, already in the Vale. One of the first quests you complete for the Golden Lotus has you blowing up a cave that the mogu were using to send reinforcements into the Vale, probably through an ancient network of tunnels (or the product of heavy mogu labor in recent years).

Gobble your other little minions up and let your Void Terror take the attack instead. It's a super simple and super powerful effect, fitting for a warlock and especially for Gul'dan, currently the game's sole warlock hero.

Blizzard has provided every fortunate son and daughter of Azeroth a way to broadcast just how lovely they are: the Gorgeous title, available in patch 5.3 as the reward for the meta achievement for Deepwind Gorge, the brand-new battleground. Sure, it'll take some legwork. Sure, you might break a nail or end up with split ends or, worse, have to interact with trolls in any way whatsoever. But think of how much easier your life will be when you can say "Please excuse me from tonight's challenge dungeon; I'm overdue for an eyebrow waxing," and people will open their mouths, look at your title, and say "Ah, yes. Well, the expansion tends to end when we take out the final boss, and in this case Blizzard has been very clear: Garrosh is the final boss, and we fight him in 5.4. It's a reasonable assumption that's when the expansion will end! If it doesn't, the following patch will almost certainly not be a major content patch.

It's pretty unlikely. The reason why Raid Finder mode is 25-person only is because it's the ideal ratio of tanks, healers, and DPS compared to who's waiting in the queue. Going to a smaller size means messing with that ratio and affecting queue times. Like it or not, 25 is the best size for everyone right now.

Unlike old Transformers toy boxes, there's no convenient Power Level Rating for most Azerothian beings. We're not sure who's stronger, or how that strength would even be measured, for that matter.

The devs talked about doing this but ultimately backed out, saying they felt it was just updating for updating's sake instead of for a compelling reason. There's been no further indication that the guild level cap will be raised in MoP. We'll see what the next expansion brings.

I finished BioShock Infinite last night and by golly was that a heck of an ending. Highly recommended. Rent it if you can't buy it.

Highly unlikely. Besides a few tweaks to make soloing or small-group play in those raids easier, no changes were made to the other old raids when they added pets to them. Not that I wouldn't love to do heroic Karazhan, mind you.

The patch 5.3 PTR patch notes came out before a blog about the PVP changes could be published, so I imagine we'll be hearing a lot about what the changes mean for various types of gear soon (after PAX East).

Speaking of cloud serpents, I wonder what their overall role in Pandaria is? They must also be Titan creations, given that the Engine of Nalak'sha has a starry serpent interface thing, and there are carvings of them in the center of the Titanic "will of the emperor" construct machine, but they seem to be somewhat elemental in nature with the various "Storm" themed ones. Any theories?

Cloud serpents appear to be natural and native to Pandaria, though much like the rest of Azeroth's great serpents, they can be magically infused (or altered). For example, thundering cloud serpents existed before Lei Shen harnessed the titanic energy in the Throne of Thunder. As for Elegon, it's possible that the mogu, who used the Engine of Nalak'Sha for their own purposes, also repurposed the interface (read: elegon) into something familiar -- like a cloud serpent. It's also possible that, like the mogu, the cloud serpents are titanic creations. We won't know until Blizzard says so.

The devs gave out some great info, some highlights of which include:
  • There are no plans for a sweeping auction house redesign
  • Due to the popularity of the cooking and blacksmithing catch-up mechanisms, similar mechanisms for herbalism and mining might be on the way
  • The Guardian Cub experiment was just that, and it's unlikely there'll be another item like it
  • Splitting items off of a stack in the auction house is also unlikely going forward
  • It's possible that buy orders will be implemented for high-cost items like Mechano-Hogs, unlikely for stuff like flasks and enchants
  • The mailbox as the AH delivery system doesn't feel quite right and may eventually change

As I understand it, it's to give a sense of accomplishment to the people who manage to take out bosses the first week. This way the "normal" raiders get the feeling of (temporary) exclusivity for their kills. This was something that was complained about heavily when the feature was first implemented.

Have bags outlived their usefulness? Just like reagents and ammo, I think its time they get removed from the game entirely. I hope Blizzard uses the next expansion to retool the inventory system and utilize their new UI methods (ex. mounts and pets).

I like how The Secret World handles inventory and I wish WoW did it the same way. You have an expandable inventory and you can create as many custom bags as you want to help you sort your stuff. If you run out of room you can just pay an in-game currency premium and give yourself some more. There are mods that do half of this already but it'd be nice if Blizzard just went all the way with it.

There are obviously other considerations -- the effect on tailoring, for example, or the amount of database traffic Blizzard can handle (which prevents us from having unlimited bag space).

Lei Shen was the first mogu emperor, but definitely not the last. He died long, long before the pandaren revolution. There have been a lot of mogu emperors.

I thought Gorehowl was Grom's axe? I read the Shattering when it came out, so I'm not too clear but I think Garrosh should drop whatever axe he used in the mak'gora against Carine instead. If it WAS Gorehowl, I think it would be a worthy reason to either move it off the Kara loot table or at some kind of adjective of superiority, though the latter would be a little awkward to see.

Gorehowl was definitely the axe that killed Cairne. Like I said yesterday, it's likely they'll pull an Ashkandi with it and just give it a qualifier.

Am I missing something? If I have the heirloom gear in my bag but not equipped, do I still get the xp bonus?

The general idea is that even if a piece of gear has better stats than the heirloom gear of the same slot, you'll still level faster and more efficiently with the heirloom gear. A stat increase would have to be absolutely enormous to compete with an XP gain bonus-- far more than a single slot could contribute.

And no, you have to wear the heirloom gear to get the bonus. It doesn't work from your bags.

I don't know why people don't like bats. They're like tiny bear-mice, with horrific monster claw wings.

If the Burning Legion wants to pay a visit to Azeroth, do they always have to be summoned via a portal? Then they need some expert in magics on the receiving end, like in the War of the Ancients. Or do they use space ships or other nether floats giving the freedom to travel wherever they want? Not sure how they came for the Battle of Hyjal.

Demons travel through (and often live) in the Twisting Nether, which is sort of an adjacent dimension to ours. To get to Azeroth, they need portals opened, either by current demonic residents of Azeroth or mortal servants.

Could you give us a brief introduction to the lore behind Shadowfiends? (Especially as concerns healing priests?)

The wikis have no information on the subject, nor does wowhead. And it seems highly odd that, well. As a healer priest, I get to--every three minutes--summon a misshapen, eldritch beast of shuddering flesh from beyond the veil, throw it at my enemies, and use it to suck out their life force. (Then, once it has outlived its utility, I banish it back from whence it came. No care or feeding whatsoever: just go.)

*Is* there any shadowfiend lore?

No official lore, really. Option 1: the shadowfiend is either a construct or actual living being from a different plane -- specifically, the unknown plane that shadow magic is drawn from -- summoned in temporarily (and at great effort).

Option 2: they're just a psychic illusion like many other shadow priest spells.

It's hard to say. We know that when Arthas died, he "saw only darkness," but as near as we can tell there isn't a belief system on Azeroth that believes in "hell", or deities that would curate a place like that. It could also be that the val'kyr had a close eye on Sylvanas' soul and yanked it into their own little pocket afterlife to scare the crap out of her, given that we still don't really know the val'kyr's motivations for helping her.

This is why on launch, mobs in the Jade Forest respawned literally instantly, there were so many people in the zone.

I dislike it exactly because of its potential instantaneous nature. Often I kill a mob and before its death animation is even finished there's a new one on top of me. And then another one after that. I can chain-pull a couple of guys, but as a squishy mage I can only take so much. I can run, or try to, but sometimes that just doesn't work (like the DO cave mentioned in the queue today -- that place is hell).

It doesn't really bother me because I remember previous expansion launches where I waited 10 minutes between kills for a bottleneck quest. I would rather have too many enemies than too few, every time.

WoW has been out for so long that it's actually a little difficult to remember a time when it wasn't out, but a little trip in the Wayback Machine proves that, yes, WoW was not yet released in 2003. You can check out the original World of Warcraft website, complete with six (not eight) races, six (not nine) classes, and screenshots of areas that no longer exist on this archived version.

I remember looking at this version of the site that year, checking out screenshots and forum threads, getting excited when all of the possible hunter pets were revealed and wanting to make one because they could "dual wield" -- which I thought meant they could dual-wield guns, not one-handed weapons. Needless to say I was disappointed later. I've never rolled a hunter.

Can you believe that at one point we got excited about knowing what kind of spiders we'd be fighting? It truly was a different time. Now we get excited over what kind of dinosaurs we'll be fighting.
