In our last Community Blog Topic, we asked how to make professions better. As usual, we got many verbose answers and I've excerpted just a few of them.

JC_Sway from LOL Survival has a few suggestions for improving professions.

Every profession should be able to make a mount, and they should all require that trade skill. The current situation is inconsistent and convoluted.

New armor and weapons should have unique models. There should be exactly ONE way to get some awesome looking models, wether it's for transmog or not, and that is a craftsperson.

Multiple recipes on a shared daily cooldown. Right now, my alchemist makesLiving Steel every day regardless. That isn't exactly interesting.

Maybe make those cooldowns weekly so we don't feel compelled to log in every day. Want to make 7 Living Steel on Tuesday and be done with it for the week? No problem.

The ability to repair things you can craft at a nice discount. Maybe put it on a 2-5 hour cooldown.

Drama Mamas: When being female is a problem

Hi,

I have noticed the last few years getting worse, or that I am just on the wrong realm. That if a guild has a female player in it, once the members find out, their hormones starts to act up. This way I am still more closing up against giving details about me, even if I am still being who I am, I just started to refuse answering questions like what is your realname. (which is commonly asked).

They hardly ask for gender, but that comes because they hardly met a girl in WoW (possibly because some are doing the same as me) I guess.. So everyone is male unless proven otherwise. I have no problem with that, however if I prove otherwise, their hormones starts to act up and not sure what happens in this guild, but it will highly end up like most of my last guilds, being driven away from the guild by pestering.

Community Blog Topic: How to make professions better

For this week's Community Blog Topic, we turn to Neuromante:

I'd like to throw in ideas about what to do with main professions: how to simplify them, make them more entertaining/profitable, less grindy, etc.

For starters, I'd love it if my scribe could summon a table and chair to actualy write glyphs, and my alchemist summon a mini-lab with bunsen burners and all.

One thing I really liked about Star Wars Galaxies was the crafting. I loved that you could go out and harvest mats and they would vary in quality. Therefore if you were diligent enough about gathering, you could craft items that were better than other people's. I'd like to see something similar in World of Warcraft.

The problem is that SWG had harvesters you could go and plant and set to gather while you were away. You would just have to go and empty them when they got full. There's no way that a setup like that will work in WoW. Too much would have to change.

Love is in the air, but I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that this holiday does not lend itself to group activities where the group is multiple levels. The good news is that It came from the Blog is going to be having a party anyway: our second annual party on the Love Zeppelin.

Community Blog Topic Results: Your new WoW holidays

The current Community Blog Topic asked you to design your own World of Warcraft holiday. We got many detailed responses, but I've only taken excerpts from them. If you like the general idea of the holiday, click through the link to the original.

Astalnar from Cogitationes Astalnaris gives a very detailed description of the Rites of Passage holiday.

Rites of Passage, as I would call this holiday would take place between 8th and 22nd of March. Thus it is right between Love is in the Air, and Noblegarden. During this holiday daring adventurers would embark on epic journey across Azeroth to obtain the items that would prove their worthiness, and let them pass the Rites. Such items would be a Dry Cloth from Ocean's Bottom, Lie of Many Colours, and Horn of Hornless Old Hag.

The search would take them across all the continents of Azeroth, both known and unknown. Most of the items would be located on still undiscovered continents. There would be number of clues pointing to Outland, and they would need to fish for hours in the backest of the backwaters Azeroth can offer. Searching for the next clue. It would be fun, if the clues for every player would be randomly generated, thus the Holiday stays actual even years after it would first appear.

This week's letter comes from a returning player.

Hi.

After a year long hiatus, I'm coming back to wow on my own, my friends have either stopped, migrated, or are doing Heroic Mode which I can't. So I just joined a random guild as a slightly-undergeared Priest, we're at 11/14 Normal.

I'm having issues though.

- One is I'm not very good in the meters (usually 20-ish % below the similarly-geared RCham my GM plays), and the RL/GM is constantly on my case about it. No matter that I'm usually not the first healer to die, causing the wipe, or that my tasks are done (don't let Thok's kiter die, solo-heal one side of the Spoils...), the Truth is in the meters. Also, on the rare occasion I die first, I've got to justify myself over vent, on top of my spontaneaous apology. On the numerous occasions the GM does die first (usually twice, she's a shamy), she's quite mum about it.

Community Blog Topic: Design a new WoW holiday

World of Warcraft has had the same holidays for a while now with very few changes. It's time for something new to fill in the months that have no events. For this week's Community Blog Topic, design a new WoW holiday.

My new holiday would occur in August each year and is called Pet Adoption Week (PAW). It would be a week of pet battle related activities.

Achievement: Pet Adoption
Capture one of each family of pet. Previous pet captures would not count toward this achievement; they must be completed during PAW.

Achievement: Critter Caper
Capture 10 different critters. Again, previous pet captures would not count toward this achievement.

Community Blog Topic Results: New WoW classes

Our latest Community Blog Topic asked you to pitch a new World of Warcraft class. Many commenters suggested that WoW did not need another class, but that misses the point. Several classes with very detailed designs were blogged and commented about. I've only excerpted a few here, so follow the links to see the full descriptions.

AedanBlounsø at SnobGoblin describes the bard class in full detail, including specs like the Heartmender:

Primary Abilities

Song of Hope - Restores an allys health and increase their damage done

Unearthly Affection - Convinces an enemy to redirect their attack to another ally.

Pure of Heart - Melee attacks against the Heartmender causes an aura of protection to slow the attacking enemy while healing the Heartmender.

Hymn of Heresy - Waves of mystical energy emerge from the Heartmender, causing allies to increase their critical strike rating while damaging enemies.

Arrows of the Soul - Heartmenders convert agility to intellect.

I have an issue that's probably not uncommon to some readers of WoW Insider. I play WoW. I adore it, it's the most fun I've ever had with a computer. I live with a person who LIVES WoW. I don't mean that in a glancing-blow type way. That's what she does. She wakes up, goes to her computer, and plays WoW, then goes to sleep when no one else is online. She wakes up in the middle of the night to check guild chat on her phone. Her daughter is failing Math? It can wait, Raid is in an hour. Full raid gear on one character? Time to level another and get that one geared too. Relatives living in the same house want to talk? Hang on, quest turn-in time. You see where I'm going with this.

Community Blog Topic: Pitch your new WoW class

When we recently asked readers to pitch their expansion ideas, a few people came up with new classes. Some of them were so interesting, we'd like to see them fleshed out a little bit more. So pitch us a new World of Warcraft class.

In old school Everquest, I played a bard: Eponyne Songtart. Goodness, those graphics are so bad by today's standards, and I never noticed how she looks like her leg is amputated in that picture. Now it's all I can see. Anyway, the bard class was very buggy for a long time, but I still loved playing her. I'd like to see a similar class in WoW.

I've been playing mmo's for years now, I've played all different sorts with all different people. I've played PVE, I've played PVP. I've acted as mentor to new players, and I've taken the role of leader in endgame or guilds. Community Blog Topic Results: Your WoW resolutions

For last week's Community Blog Topic, we asked what your World of Warcraft resolutions are. We got a few humorous monitor resolutions, but we got some sincere responses as well.

Nativebrown at The White Pine Journal wants to PvP more.

I don't have a lot of interest in the raiding at the moment and since I've just finished leveling a Human rogue to 90 I'm resolving to spend the rest of this expansion pack on PvP. I've always liked PvP and make sure to take the time when I'm leveling to hit each bracket at least a few times. That being said I never really put in enough time at max level to gear up well and feel truly competitive. There's an awful lot of battlegrounds now that provide nice variety and while I'm not sure yet if I'm going to jump into Rated Battlegrounds or Arenas I'm looking forward to buckling down, picking PvP as my in-game job and doing it well.

Dear Drama Mamas,

I promise to keep this as short as possible while still giving you all the needed details. I am, and for all intents and purposes HAVE been, a member of of a guild of which the GM and I have know each other for a long time. We've gamed together across numerous games as well as several MMOs in our day, developing a guild that has followed us in the same manner as I've followed him. I was young when we began our quest of gaming, but now as I grow older, I'm learning that he is an enormously terrible person.

Community Blog Topic: What are your WoW resolutions?

We're coming up on the new year, so it's time for new year's resolutions. For this week's Community Blog Topic we ask, "What are your World of Warcraft resolutions?"

I've got two characters tottering on the brink of 90, waiting for me to take them all the way. So I definitely want to get those taken care of. As far as pet battles, I want to get one of each kind to 25 and get as many related achievements as possible.

And then there's LFR. I have a confession to make: I've never used the Raid Finder. I fear PUGs. But I need to get over that while there are still people running them.

Jaina goes berserk, for every injustice and fault that she suffered in all those years. We start the expansion with clensing the water sources that Jaina poisoned with her arcane magic. After that we have to deal with random portal shifts that release vast amounts of Mana Wraiths and demons on us.

Drama Mamas: How to deal with an overzealous guildie

Dear Drama Mamas,

I'm a GM of a casual RP/social guild. As such I do my best to be diplomatic, friendly, and keep things friendly and inviting for my guildies. We've kept it going for years with ups and downs and I'm incredibly proud of how little drama we've had all things considered. I'd hate to be the source of any drama so am considering this a preemptive strike.

There is one particular guildie who isn't breaking any rules, is a wonderfully creative RPer, and annoys the everliving crap out of me. It's not his fault, it's a personality thing. He rubs me the wrong way. We're very different people with different senses of humor and priorities etc and so on. And that'd be fine, I'm an adult perfectly capable of getting along and keeping the peace with people I don't necessarily jive with. Except that he is DEAD SET on becoming my BEST FRIEND FOREVER. To the point where my dislike has steadily grown into a total reluctance to log on.

There are many things to like and dislike about the announcements for Warlords of Draenor. So erebhir's suggestion for this week's Community Blog Topic is

"Pitch YOUR World of Warcraft Expansion!"

You've got carte blanche and the eyes of your fellow WoW Insider readers. From launch event to final raid tier, take us through the story you want the next WoW expansion to tell.

My expansion would be called The Return of Gnomeregan. Master alchemist and all around genius Billy Bonka (a gnome) comes up with a potion which cleanses Gnomeregan of its lingering issues. Once he has done with it, there is no chance of becoming a leper gnome and the gnomes are able to return back home for real this time.

I don't rush through content the way a lot of people do. I have only seen the first 8 bosses in Siege. This is the raid we have for quite some time, so I have been kind of saving the last bosses. I hope to do flex 3 this week and possibly 4 as well. I'd also love to clear the place on normal and maybe get a few heroic kills when I'm geared enough. MoP isn't over for me at all. At least not the raiding.

I have an issue that I hope you can help me with.

I've been playing wow for 6 and half years now and after my first guild folded I went to play on the hordes side of the fence for a little bit. After deciding to return to alliance I offered my support to a friend from the previous guild in her quest of making one of her own.

It's been about a year since I joined the guild and was appointed assistant gm and being put in charge of raiding I even took care of the guild whilst my gm and her partner was moving states I farmed for mats and put gold in the guild bank and also gained a handful of recruits.

We've got a long wait before Warlords of Draenor is released. Even if it is released in June of next year, that's still seven months of waiting. So hstein3 suggested this week's Community Blog Topic:

With Mists effectively over, how are you spending the time between now and the drop of Warlords?

Mists isn't really over for me. I'm not an endgame kinda gal. So I will keep doing what I usually do: level alts and play pet battles. I have two 88s just itching to join my three 90s. And my stable of level 25 pets is severely lacking.

But those activities aren't going to keep my interest for that many months. I expect I'll probably get back into healing battlegrounds. That's usually a good time. And I will likely try another game for a bit. Maybe I'll give The Old Republic free to play a whirl. Or I may go back and level my monk in Diablo III. She's not at max yet.

Previously on Community Blog Topic, we asked what your favorite announcement was for Warlords of Draenor. So this time we asked the opposite. What WoD announcement was your biggest disappointment? Many, many people weighed in.

Despite the issues at the start of MOP when we had to grind through GL to get to the other reps, i actually found the amount of dailies on offer to be great.

I could spend my time waiting for LFR or LFD queues by hitting up some dailies for a whole host of factions, i could then take part in the Karsarang Dailies which progressed the story arch, i then headed off to isle of thunder for more dailies which were by no means a chore.

It felt like i had choices of which dailies to do each day, i didn't feel forced to do all of them every day, i had no issues being VP capped, i dunno i just found it fun.

Certainly more fun than the timeless isle.

Community Blog Topic: What's your biggest disappointment with Warlords of Draenor?

So much information is continuing to flow in about Warlords of Draenor. Since BlizzCon, we've seen the new Forsaken female models. We've also learned that spirit will be a secondary stat and won't show up on armor. The fact that flight in WoD won't be available until 6.1 and will probably require a quest chain to acquire it is a controversial topic. Not everyone is happy with everything.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of female participation in the story on the Horde side of things. There's been a lot of discussion on this topic already, and I don't mean to start it up again, but it is my answer to this week's Community Blog Topic: "What's your biggest disappointment with Warlords of Draenor?"

My other disappointment is a minor one. I wish that garrisons were account-bound instead of restricted to each character. It's minor because I love everything else about this feature.

What about you? Are you at all disappointed about any of the announced features of WoD? What are you looking least forward to? Or are you going to wait until the details are more flushed out before making up your mind?

The current Community Blog Topic is "What's your favorite Warlords of Draenor announcement?" I used the word "announcement" because these features are announced, but not guaranteed. See Dance Studio for reference. Still, we can hope for the best and there is a lot to be excited about.

RobVoila from This Old Garrison gives several reasons for liking garrisons the most, including:

Follower game play. There are other games I've played where I've gotten burned out on core game play. For a few of those games, what keeps me coming back is the follower game play. It may not be as exciting as running a dungeon with your main character, but it's kind of interesting to see if the people you've assigned a task have the ability to complete it. Also, depending on how the system works, it can be hilarious when the group screws up (on a Sims "How did you set fire to the house trying to make a salad?" level).

Drama Mamas: When you realize you've become That Guy

I have a problem I haven't seen on DM before.

First off let me say, I am the problem and I know it.

I joined a raiding guild mid way through ToT as a tank and we progressed fairly well through it. As time went on and I grew more comfortable with them, a side of me emerged I have never seen before. I became more sensitive to what people said, impatient and just overall "jerky".

Now the other night they raided, one shot all the normal bosses we would do and my guild leader said they sounded like they had fun because they didn't have to worry about upsetting me. This came as quite a shock. I didn't know people were walking on egg shells around me.

More US realms to be connected

More connected realms have been announced for the US. Coming up this Monday, November 18th during a scheduled maintenance time that begins at 6 a.m. PST through around 11:00 a.m. PST., the following realms will be connected:

Draenor and Echo Isles
Gorgonnash and Balnazzar/Warsong
Lethon and Blackwing Lair/Dethecus, Detheroc, Haomarush
Lightning's Blade and Burning Blade/Onyxia
Smolderthorn and Anub'arak/Chromaggus/Garithos

Two more batches have also been announced, one of which includes Zangarmarsh, the home for the WoW Insider guild It came from the Blog. The two new batches plus a list of all of the realms that have already been connected are after the break.

Community Blog Topic: What is your favorite announcement for Warlords of Draenor?

BlizzCon was a blast -- even for those of us who only enjoyed it virtually. But I see some people complaining in the comments that not much was announced for the new expansion: Warlords of Draenor. I heartily disagree. Not only will we get a whole new continent to explore with many side-quests and treasures to be discovered in nooks and crannies of this new world, we also get a slew of other new features.

There will be garrisons, a new PvP sandbox, a BoA toybox (with a similar setup for heirlooms), gear that changes stats according to what spec you are in, a whole new storyline which includes draenei lore (something which has been sorely lacking), new (and gorgeous) character models ... I know I'm forgetting a few important things.

How heirlooms will work in Warlords of Draenor

We learned from BlizzCon that heirlooms will become truly Bind on Account. What we didn't learn was how that would be accomplished. Bashiok took to the forums to explain.

It's a new UI of (essentially) buttons that will "light up" when you obtain one (or have obtained one) of the heirlooms. Click the button and an item of that type will be generated and put into your bags.

Questions from the forum that he didn't answer were

What will happen with heirlooms you can wear two of, such as weapons?
Will the heirlooms keep their enchants?
Will we get a refund for having more than one of each heirloom?

My speculation is that it will let us generate more than one of the item so that we can dual wield heirloom weapons if we like. I also expect that the heirlooms will not be generated with enchants but that the gear that is already on characters or in bags will remain enchanted. And I expect that just like mounts and pets, we will not get refunded for having more than one of any heirloom. But all of this is just what I infer from the information given, and we'll need to wait and see what Blizzard's exact system is.

bengstra would like PvE and PvP completely separated.

I have long held they need to keep their PvP out of my PvE. It is simply impossible to balance and one side or the other is constantly being impacted by the side they want, and have, no part in. This makes for constant ping ponging and frustration (think Stampede for a text book example of ping ponging).

Hello Drama Mamas,

I need some help and some advice. Recently I've been sharing my livestream of my guild's raids on my Facebook since a lot of my friends play or used to play WoW. This caught the attention of two former guildies from my old server, and they came back to WoW, transferred to my server, and joined my guild.

After a while, the husband started giving me all sorts of flack - about being benched, about my guildies' behavior, about me never farming rares/coins on the Timeless Isle with him - and demanding that I be in Vent/Mumble all the time. He got sick of being benched and went to a guild I'm leveling with some friends and started giving me flack for the other guild's lack of a raid team and demanding to know why I haven't moved my lvl90 alts out of my raiding guild and into the other one.

Warlords of Draenor: Everything we know about Garrisons

During the World of Warcraft Raids, Gameplay, Questing, and More panel, Garrisons were explained in detail.

All garrisons will come with four starting buildings:

Town Hall: where you interact with your followers and conduct business in your garrison
Mine
Farm
Fishing shack

Garrisons start off with some plots into which other buildings can be placed. There are small, medium and large plots. Once all of the plots are filled, the next tier of plots will open up to be built upon up to three tiers.

No Free-to-Play World of Warcraft

Speaking to Eurogamer last night at BlizzCon, Production Director J. Allen Brack stated that Blizzard has no plans to make World of Warcraft free to play. "We didn't make the game to be free to play," he said. "We would have to rework the game pretty significantly in order to make it free-to-play. It's not something we're currently considering."

This echos what Mike Morhaime said in an interview on the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket. He also said that WoW was not designed to be free to play.

Many had thought that with subscriber losses and the introduction of an in-game Blizzard store on the PTR that WoW might be heading toward a free to play model, like many subscription MMOs are doing. But these statements by Blizzard developers allays those fears.

WoW Insider/Wowhead party snapshots

Last night, WoW Insider and Wowhead hosted their annual party at the Annabella Hotel. The party was from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. PST, but the line began before 5. It was at capacity very quickly, leaving many people standing in line to get in. Gamebreaker.tv broadcast the event, conducting interviews and otherwise putting on a good show.

At the same time, many people were lined up at the Anaheim Convention Center to pick up their BlizzCon badges. There were quite a few tweets from attendees complaining about how long the line was, but at least the weather was good and there were things to look at.

Warlords of Draenor: New world PvP zone

New to Warlords of Draenor will be a world PvP zone called Ashran. It will be a PvP sandbox zone with an ongoing battle. Its staging area will be near the Dark Portal.

Included in Ashran will be faction bases (that can be reduced to rubble) and other hotspots. You'll be able to create siege vehicles of various sizes that may be started at one point and finished when you return to the zone. Ashran is being described as being close to the old school Alterac Valley. There will be a variety of objectives that may take a lot of time to achieve. Also, cross-realm technology will be applied so that servers or server clusters with faction-imbalances will have fair battles.

This is a departure from their current PvP options in that there is no end. Fans of the old AV and of world PvP will hopefully find that Ashran satisfies those desires.
