Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

The above video has nothing to do with this week's letter. Deal.

	Hello Ladies,

I am a member of a fairly old casual raiding guild. Coming into Cataclysm, our GM/RL left for a hard core guild and leadership was transferred to other officers. There were some hard feelings and it was a very rough patch but we persevered for the most part. We were even able to recruit as our new raid lead, a returning raid team member who had quit playing WOW for personal reasons.

Unfortunately, those personal reasons involved his wife having multiple affairs, some via Wow. Worse, he told quite a few guildies about it when he left. Even more worse, she was a guild member also and as she has communicated, he "allowed" her to come back.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: When marital troubles are played out in guild

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: When marital troubles are played out in guild originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 25 May 2012 09:00:00 EST.
Welcome to this week's episode, in which Lisa compares me to baked goods. I think I'm more like a Disney villain, but benevolent. You be the judge.

	Dear Drama Mamas

I'm the new gm of a social guild. As such we find that we get a lot of players who are new to the game entirely. We try and help the out but lately we have a number of new people who seem to be taking the "we are happy to help" and running it for all it's worth.

I'm a firm believer is looking for the solution yourself and then asking if you don't find anything. Particularly with resources like wowhead, noxxix, wow insider and blogs for every other thing you could ever hope for.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: The case of the needy guildies

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Guilds, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: The case of the needy guildies originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 21 May 2012 14:00:00 EST.

Last month, It came from the Blog hosted the Running of the Orphans. We met outside of the orphanage in The Drag of Orgrimmar and grabbed our orphans. We then proceeded to complete all of the quests together to get the pet and achievement.

First, we traveled to Thunder Bluff via the Love Zeppelin and paid our respects to Cairne. We then took our orphans on a joy ride, which wasn't so much joyful as it was irresponsibly dangerous. We then paid a visit to Laday Sylvanas and debated whether she threatened our orphans or not. Upon our return to Orgrimmar, we spoiled the orphans with sweets and toys and then returned them to the poor matron.

We've held this event before, but there was one disappointing change this year: No orphans were left behind when we got on a zeppelin. Perhaps it is a cruel thing to miss, but we did. After all, they order us around all day; a little revenge seemed appropriate.

We will be holding another event this month. Look for an announcement Soon[TM].

Dig those groovy threads, man. Being caught in the middle of a feud between the raid leader and guild leader does not require you to wear baby blue bell bottoms, but it may help.

	Dear Drama Mamas,

I find myself at a loss for words about recent events in the guild I belong to. Since I can not figure out if I am being unreasonable I've decided to seek outside help.

Recently a Raid Leader and our Guild Master had a fight. The Raid Leader and his Raid Team quit the guild we belong to and settled into a level 1 guild together. They were the only people raiding in our guild and the raid leader was instrumental in helping each of them gear and I understand why they followed them. They did not have an issue with the fight between the GM and RL, they just followed the person who had helped them the most and who would see them through their raids. Our guild has a lot of followers and very few leaders so I am not surprised. This was a loss for our guild, but since drama always seemed to follow that Raid Leader its probably for the best.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: When a guild splits in two

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: When a guild splits in two originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 14 May 2012 16:00:00 EST.

I do use Real ID. Wait, that's not accurate. I do have Real ID enabled on my account and I do have a friends list, but I rarely use it. Because of It came from the Blog, my real name is known in game. So that kind of privacy is not as much of a problem for me as it is for most players. Still, my friends list is exclusive -- I don't friend everyone and his brother like I do on Facebook.

The Drama Mamas recently covered the problem that arises when you want to have some alone time, but your friends keep inviting you to do things with them. It's hard to say no without feeling like you're hurting their feelings. If Real ID had an invisible mode, this wouldn't be a problem. Captain Obvious has been tapping his foot about that one ever since this feature first came out.

So all of your friends can see your real name and they can chat at you whenever they want. In Diablo III, they can even hop into your game if you don't have that function disabled. But at the same time, you can play on an alt while waiting for your friends to get online to get a group together. They can contact you easily cross-server and cross-faction -- even cross-game. The online privacy issues are huge if you aren't careful, but the convenience of chatting with friends from all over the region is also huge.

Do you have Real ID enabled? If so, do you invite people you don't know in the physical world or do you restrict it to friends who already knew your email address and real name? If you don't use it, why not?
Sometimes commenters will suggest that we have received a fake letter. I hope this week's is, although that's actually irrelevant. This kind of thing does happen, unfortunately.

	Dear Drama Mamas,

I am writing to you today in need of your coveted wisdom and advice. First just let me inform you that I am a gay man of age 16 in real, and that this type of situation has happened before, but in different variations.

Here's my problem.. It all began with an innocent night outside the gates out Stormwind city. I was sat on the grass opposite a guy. He began talking to me very nicely, I replied, and we got on well. We were talking about random topics for around 10 minutes and became instantaneous friends. He was kind, polite and had top notch spelling and grammar (Which I loved). He went on to ask me personal questions. Such as age, place of residence etc. I had asked these questions first so I thought it would be fair to answer his.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: The consequences of lying about your gender

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: The consequences of lying about your gender originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 07 May 2012 14:00:00 EST.

Many players going for What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been leave Children's Week until last -- often not by choice. It is a truth universally acknowledged that School of Hard Knocks is the worst achievement required for any holiday meta. Even if you like PvP, competing with your region-mates for the same objective is frustrating, to say the least. And then there are the funsuckers who do their best to obstruct everyone trying. Ugh.

I think that otherwise, Children's Week is rather fun. Being the minion of orphans who coax you into irresponsible actions is enjoyable, surprisingly. I love the scripted reactions of the NPCs, particularly Lady Sylvanas. (I'm so predictable.) I do miss taking Salandria to see M'uru, though. Having her rock out with the Elite Tauren Chieftains doesn't have the same impact.

The pets are fun to collect as well. Sleepy Willy is a long-time favorite of mine. I did not try to get all of the pets on alts in preparation for Mists of Pandaria, however. I do think it's a great idea because all companion pets will become account-wide in the expansion. I just didn't make the effort.

What did you enjoy most about Children's Week? Did you meet your goals? What pets did you get?

I really enjoy how the races in WoW have such distinct characters. Yes, they look different, but that's not the same thing. And it isn't so much about the accents, either. Their lore, their attitude, the way they die -- it's all so much fun. It also makes it difficult to enjoy the distinctness of your character in other games, when your race doesn't change how you speak or even dance. (Spoiler: SWTOR.)

Now, as much as I love Lady Sylvanas and even though I am drawn (by our Kelly Aarons) as a blood elf, I think I most resemble a gnome. I'm average height, mind you. And I have a large collection of Horde clothing. But my voice, my laugh and my attitude are rather gnomish.

If I were restricted to only Horde races, I'd have to go with troll -- even though I had the tusks removed years ago. (HAHAHAHAHHA. Sorry.) They have fun hairstyles, they are pretty mellow unless roused, and they have a curvier body type than the evil blood elves.

Which race do you most resemble and why? Is it primarily a personality thing or a physical similarity? And no, the race you choose doesn't have to be a playable one -- so if you think you resemble a naga, tell us all about it!
Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

With Real ID and Battle Tags, solo time while playing any Blizzard game is more difficult than ever. But can playing alone still be accomplished?

I get that WoW is an MMO, and that many games are multiplayer or have multiplayer opportunities. Most of the time, I don't mind playing with other people. I like dungeons and raids and grouping for battlegrounds.

But sometimes, I want to play alone. I don't like to quest with other people because I have a certain way of doing things, and I don't like to be redirected or slowed down. Likewise, when I'm learning a new class/game/spell/mechanic, I want time to flounder on my own (or in random groups) to figure out how things are going to work for me before I jump into a group with my friends, where I feel the stakes of my failure are a little higher.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: How to spend time in WoW alone

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: How to spend time in WoW alone originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 30 Apr 2012 09:00:00 EST. I love to argue about the most evil race in WoW. My devotion to the Dark Lady has nothing to do with it (mostly).

You see, I don't think the Forsaken are evil. They aren't responsible for what happened to them. They didn't choose to be undead. They were perfectly happy to remain living humans. Sylvanas didn't seek out her bansheeness. And all other races shun or just tolerate them. So the Forsaken culture is built around the condition forced upon them. Yes, Sylvanas has now taken to, uh, recruiting new members of her race, which most consider very Lich King-like. But how else is she going to expand her ever-decreasing population?

Because the Forsaken are no longer living in the way that all other races are, they cannot value life in the same way. I believe this makes them amoral instead of immoral. They do what they can to survive and even flourish in the hostile world of Azeroth. Of course there are individuals who do despicable things, but you can't judge an entire race on the activities of a few bad eggs.
Continue reading Breakfast Topic: Which playable race is most evil?

Breakfast Topic: Which playable race is most evil? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 29 Apr 2012 08:00:00 EST.

Trade chat on almost all servers is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. But you can advertise items for sale and look for groupmates there as well. Sometimes you can even get answers to your questions -- if you are very lucky and willing to sift through the lies and mockery. General chat in the MoP beta can be just as bad, as it can in any MMO, beta or otherwise. (See SWTOR.) And even if chat isn't full of obscene references and spam, there's the whining. The whining!

Another problem with trade and general chat is the feeding of trolls. Perfectly decent people will get into a rage war because Trollmaster and Trolliscious demeaned a class, profession, race, favorite sports team, etc. Trolls love that. Any attention is good. And then everyone else has to put up with the arguing and insults flying back and forth. I know. It's hard to ignore when the trade chat villains start calling anyone who likes the female pandaren "chubby chasers," but going verbally postal in public chat isn't going to help anyone. I fought the urge and so can you. (Though my Twitter followers heard all about it.)

Guild masters and officers often keep trade chat on to make sure that no guildies are misbehaving in public. This can be a painful experience and usually not worth the time. Personally, I turn public chat off in live and keep it on in beta. Beta general chat often answers questions I have -- in between all the misogyny and malicious pranks.

Do you turn off the public chat channels? If so, do you turn them back on again to conduct legitimate business, or do you just stay away? Do you find chat problems in other MMOs? Or are you one of the ones causing the problem? /glare

Previously we reported that all Annual Passholders had been sent their Mists of Pandaria beta invites. But many players have been complaining that they still hadn't received theirs. Blizzard responded to that today. Those who have purchased the pass after April 18 will get their invites in a future wave. There were also errors when sending the invites to some accounts, and Blizzard is attempting to resolve them.

We want to confirm that, at this time, all World of Warcraft Annual Pass subscribers have been invited to the Mists of Pandaria beta test, with two groups of exceptions. One exception group are those who purchased an Annual Pass on or after April 18, and will receive their invite in a future wave. The second exception is a small list of remaining accounts from previous waves that encountered an error, and will be properly flagged for beta access as soon as we can resolve the issue.

If you haven't yet purchased an Annual Pass, you still have time to guarantee your spot in the beta by signing up for a year agreement (link) before the offer expires on April 30. Those taking advantage of the Annual Pass receive Diablo III for free, access to the Mists of Pandaria beta, and the exclusive Tyrael's Charger flying mount for your World of Warcraft characters.

So if you haven't received your beta invite yet, you will Soon[TM]. No dates have been released for when the remaining invites will go out. In the meantime, you can read up on all of the MoP beta info here on WoW Insider.

Children's Week starts this Sunday, so that must mean that it's time for It came from the Blog's annual Running of the Orphans. As the event name says, we get orphans and we run around with them while completing our orphan quests.

 When: Sunday, April 29 at 12:30 p.m. EDT (9:30 a.m. PDT, 10:30 a.m. server time)

Where: Meet at the pond near the engineering trainer that's next to the orphanage in Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)

Who: Any Horde character level 10 or over

How: Ask any member of It came from the Blog for an invite to the guild if you are not already a member of our family of guilds already.

We will have a fishing party while we wait for everyone to arrive and get their orphans. Then we will be orphan minions, taking them wherever they want to go -- the Running of the Orphan Caregivers may be a more accurate title, but it doesn't have the same ring to it. Time permitting, we may even try for some achievements.

You have to be at least level 10, because you can't get an orphan otherwise. We also will not be forming a raid since we need to complete quests. We will have an event chat set up as usual, however.

Hope to see you there!

The latest beta patch includes quite a few changes, including five new companion pets.

Fishy The spell says it will summon Bubbles, but the actual pet says Fishy. I hope Bubbles is the name that makes it into live.

 Gilnean Raven Sounds sinister.

Red Cricket Seems like this would make good Snake food.

Shore Crab Will this pet differ much from the Strand Crawler?

Terrible Turnip Do want, just on the name alone. It probably comes from the Tillers faction.

No information is available yet as to how most of these pets are obtained or what they look like. I'm dying to know how the Terrible Turnip looks and behaves in battle. When it is injured, does it bleed? And how will Fishy fight? Perhaps it will be in a fishbowl and blow poisonous bubbles at its foe. I can't wait to find out!

Note: Pet Battles are not in the beta yet, unfortunately.

It is so very hard to be satisfied with the game as it is, when all the shinies from the expansion are being dangled in front of you. It can seem like you're spinning your wheels playing characters that are going to be so different in the near future. And how many times have you done the same dailies and run the same dungeons?

In the month or two before The Burning Crusade came out, I had a goal. I wanted the Frostwolf Howler, and I would do anything to get it. The "anything" I had to do was run Alterac Valley over and over and over to raise my reputation with the Frostwolf Clan. Alterac Valley was a lengthy Battleground in vanilla WoW, with one instance often lasting an hour or more. I still miss those times, even with all the grinding, because I loved the PvE aspect of it -- especially summoning the Ice Lord to decimate the Alliance.

Right now, I am mostly playing the MoP beta and SWTOR. I've been meaning to get more characters to max level, but I just haven't gotten around to it. And when Diablo III comes out, well, it will be difficult playing any other game for a bit.

So what are you doing while you wait for Mists of Pandaria? Are you playing the beta? Does another game have your attention? Are you enjoying a different aspect of the game (like PvP) from what you normally play? Or are you just doing what you've always done, perfectly happy to be patient until the new expansion?

If you are into casual but organized raiding or would like to try out raiding in a comfortable, non-judgmental atmosphere, The Insiders on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) may be the guild for you. The Insiders is the sister guild of It came from the Blog, WoW Insider's event guild.

Every month, It came from the Blog holds an event to which all are welcome. These activities are for the widest level ranges possible, depending on what we're doing. Some players enjoy the events and want to hang out with WoW Insider readers on a regular basis, so they can join The Insiders -- a casual, max-level guild. The only players not allowed to join are funsuckers and those who can't follow the very simple rules, which include keeping the guild chat to PG-13 and no drama. Unlike It came from the Blog, not everyone can invite. But there are usually enough players online so that someone has the ability to let you in on the fun.

The Insiders have historically been a leveling guild, full of alts of people whose mains are on other servers. But they have been adding more and more scheduled raid nights, mostly for older content. This week, for example, they have four nights of Firelands raiding scheduled, a Sarth 3D fun run and a guild Raid Finder night.

So if you want to join WoW Insider readers in some non-stressful raiding, come join the gang. It may be the perfect antidote to the restlessness caused by the pre-expansion lull. If you just want to join us for our monthly events, stay tuned for the next It came from the Blog announcement -- which will be some time next week.

Confess your love or respect your friend's new relationship?

	Dear Drama-Mamas,

After reading both articles concerning two different love triangles, I felt compelled to write this. I'm sort of in one at the moment. Sort of, because I'm the crusher, secretly of course. What's worse about it is that she's my friend, of nine years, we met back on another MMO and while our friendship has had a few ups and downs, we always came back to each other stronger. We've both seen the other go through several relationships and bounce back as well.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: Love triangle or just stay friends?

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: Love triangle or just stay friends? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 09:00:00 EST.

Note: The above image is from January 2005. Isn't it quaint?

I love playing MMOs with the guy in my life -- whoever that may be at the time. I even stopped dating someone once because he was uninterested in trying out EverQuest with me. (We didn't have that much in common anyway.) The Spousal Unit and I have played multiple MMOs together over the years. Even though he has dropped WoW and moved to SWTOR, we are having a fantastic time PvPing together. (Fight at the objective!)

Video game dates are a cheap way to date your partner and can really help strengthen a relationship -- as long as both people want to play and are enjoying the chosen in-game activities. When a couple disagrees on what they should be doing in Azeroth together, bad things can happen.

Recently, a woman wrote in to Drama Mamas wondering if she should try to play World of Warcraft with her husband, who is an avid player. She isn't a gamer but was willing to try it in order to spend more time with her spouse. Trying out games in order to spend more time with a partner is normal and often rewarding. But a husband who refuses to learn how to play his character and makes his wife and guild carry him is just one of the instances why WoW playdates don't always work.
Continue reading Breakfast Topic: Do you play WoW with your significant other?

Breakfast Topic: Do you play WoW with your significant other? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 08:00:00 EST.
There is a common misconception that "casual" is synonymous with being inconsiderate or incompetent. Perhaps this is because many raiding guilds that take long breaks, don't show up on time, and don't read strategies before new encounters call themselves casual. What category does the letter writer's guild fall into?

	Hey dear drama mama's

I'll try not to make any mistakes in my language since English isn't my native tongue.

I've read your colum/posts for a long time now and I always praise myself lucky that I've been spared of that drama.

Unfortunatly I'm in a conundrum.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: When casual raiding is neither casual nor raiding

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Raiding, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: When casual raiding is neither casual nor raiding originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 12:00:00 EST. Female gamers in the wrong guilds can have a really rough time of it.

	Dear Drama Mamas

I am hoping that you can help me break a pattern that has been occurring for quite a few years across many MMOs. I have tried everything I can think of but every time I join a guild, the same thing keeps happening again and again (with some slight variations). In the last three years, I haven't lasted longer than three months in any guild nor in any MMO!

Continue reading Drama Mamas: More unwanted sexual attention

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: More unwanted sexual attention originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 09 Apr 2012 15:00:00 EST. We are all for couples spending time in Azeroth together to strengthen their relationships, but is that the solution to this week's drama?

Boy, do I need the Drama Mamas advice! Here is my dilemma....my husband is a devout WoW player (we have been together for 2 years), my adult son and teenage daughter from my previous marriage live with us and they also play WOW. I feel sad, left out and jealous (of the time he spends on it, having to wait for raids and dungeons to be over with so I can talk to him, him getting to have fun while I have to work and last, but certainly not least, of his relationships with certain guild members.) I have been kicking around playing with him, but I get totally overwhelmed just thinking about it.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: Should a WoW widow become a WoW player?

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: Should a WoW widow become a WoW player? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 02 Apr 2012 13:00:00 EST. This weekend, the It came from the Blog family of guilds will be hosting a scavenger hunt! Here are the details:

 When: Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT, 11 a.m. server time)

Where: Meet at the throne room in the Ruins of Lordaeron on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)

 Who: Any level Horde character

How: Ask any It came from the Blog member for an invite, if you are not already in one of our guilds

This will be an all-levels event, as we will not be forming a raid group. However, those with mounts will have an advantage. Money will be provided for those characters short on cash. Keep paper and a writing utensil on hand in the physical world so that you can write down the scavenger hunt items.

I will be giving out the list right at the beginning of the event, so punctuality will be rewarded. I'll repeat it, of course, but I will make sure the prompt players get a good head start.

We hope to see you there!
Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

Silence. It can be relaxing. It can be peaceful. And it can be heavy with the lack of replies after you say something. Just what does silence in guildchat mean?

	Dear Drama Mamas,

I recently joined a guild that's been working hard on DS. I've only been on a few raid nights (maybe three guild runs). But I've got serious mic shyness. So I literally hadn't said a word yet. Nor have I told anyone I'm that shy. The others kept on chatting, friendly and all, and I just kind of hung around, pew-pewing, etc. like I'm supposed to. I rarely said anything in guild chat either and was just doing my own thing and showing up when I was supposed to. Needless to say, I did get a little lonely. But I just couldn't get over my shyness. Or the fact that the all-guy raid team (as far as I can judge from voices on vent) was intimidating me, unintentionally of course. But I think it's a good guild, I hope we just have to warm up to each other.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: The mystery behind guildchat silence

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: The mystery behind guildchat silence originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 26 Mar 2012 12:00:00 EST. Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

The lovelorn player who's fallen in love with someone in an existing real-world relationship -- it's almost a cliché, it's so common. It would be all too easy for us to tut-tut with a gentle chuckle and a weary shake of the head, but the pain and confusion in these situations is never sharper or fresher than to those who find themselves there.

The Drama Mamas have addressed this situation before, albeit from another perspective, although the form of the letter and our reply themselves unfortunately may have stolen some of the thunder of that previous message. We'd like to revisit that reply again this week -- but first, of course, this week's letter:

	Dear Drama Mamas,

I have read your column for a long time and always read about people having their heartbroken and relationships ruined due to their cheating significant other. This time, I am the other woman.

I have played WoW since release and have never been interested in anyone online. I've been on and off with the same man since then and the relationship (when it's happening) is fairly broken. We both aren't willing to put in the effort to fix it, so we just let it be. Recently, I've met the most amazing person I have ever known, through WoW.

Lets make things more complicated! He's engaged, he lives with her, he loves her but feels he's not happy nor is she right for him.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: The love triangle strikes again

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: The love triangle strikes again originally appeared on WoW Insider on Tue, 20 Mar 2012 17:00:00 EST.
Once upon a time, we published the results of some of our advice. Since then, a few of the letter writers from the last year have responded, so we again get to tell you what happened next. (Note: Some of the responses had to be edited for length.)

Let's get right to it, shall we?

Robby from when "just friends" intrude on love gives us more details on his situation and reports a mostly happy ending for him and his girlfriend. It also seems I (Robin) was completely incorrect in my assumptions -- but I'm OK with that.

Thank you very much for posting my letter in your column. I found both yours and Lisa's advice to be spot on considering what little bits of info I could fit into the letter. I feel that after reading all the comments thus far that I have a bit of explaining to do.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: The results edition

Drama Mamas: The results edition originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 14:00:00 EST. We hold events monthly in the It came from the Blog family of guilds. We usually hold them during in-game holidays, but when there aren't any, I make up something else to do. We've been doing this for a few years now and have had a wide variety, from achievement spam activities to free-for-all PvP beatdowns.

It came from the Blog isn't the only game in town, of course. The Defias Brotherhood hosts a few RP-PvP events, as this video shows. The Spreading Taint and The Stonewall Family guilds march in a pride parade every year. Big Red Kitty's charity run for Ezra was so much of a success that they crashed the server and were asked to end the event early. Many more events are held in WoW each month, and some realms are more active than others. You can check the Community Events and Creations Forums for events you may be interested in.
Continue reading Breakfast Topic: What is the best player-run event you've participated in?

Breakfast Topic: What is the best player-run event you've participated in? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 08:00:00 EST. Happy Presidents' Day, if you are in the United States! Otherwise, happy Monday.

We are getting in letters for an all-new results edition of Drama Mamas, but we could still use some more.

	What's up Drama Mamas?!

Today I come with a problem of sorts... I'm part of this guild where we were all pretty close and get along great, we have been that way throughout cataclysm and I feel sorta connected to these folks.

Now about a month or so ago a few of our core raid members that were originally on the team I was part of quit the game. That caused a rift in our guild and the leader of our second raid team stepped up to the plate and now leads our core group (as well as the guild but that's a different story). While we were trying to figure out who makes the cut for our first raid group we held try outs of sorts and in the group was myself and the rogue from the second group (we both play rogues so we needed to see who got the spot). Well I was beaten by the rogue of the second group by a slim margin so the leader decided to take him on as a regular.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: Choosing between preferred class and raid leader

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Guilds, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: Choosing between preferred class and raid leader originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 20 Feb 2012 09:00:00 EST.

Ah, romance. Love is truly in the air when so many romantic topics keep cropping up. Recently with the Drama Mamas, we tackled the topic of roleplay romance. Commenter musicchan suggested that in order to avoid the awkward, one-sided crossover from RP love to OOC, players could fall in love with minor NPCs. When Blizzard asked about in-game NPC couples, Cynwise confessed to a crush on Auctioneer Jaxon. Love is in the air, indeed.

I have a crush too. Makavu, the troll banker in Orgrimmar's Valley of Spirits, has a way of saying things that makes my bank alt swoon. Nobody says okey-dokey like he does. I think Auctioneer Ziji may be jealous of our romance. She seems pleasant enough when I conduct business with her, but she watches grimly as I flirt with Makavu. I suppose it is possible that my love isn't returned. Who knows the workings of a troll's heart?

Sassy Hardwrench isn't a minor NPC, but she isn't a major one either. Maybe I shouldn't mention the fact that my mage Tizzy thinks she's dreamy. Tizzy couldn't express her feelings when Sassy was her Executive Assistant -- what with sexual harassment cases being what they are -- and now Sassy runs her own place. She's out of Tizzy's league.

Do you have a crush on a minor NPC? Which vendor or guard makes your heart beat faster? Or does your character have a romance in every city? Heroes often tend to have groupies, after all ...

Unfortunately, Love is in the Air doesn't really lend itself to an all-levels event. Many of the achievements require rather high levels to complete, and the Dangerous Love quest line can't be picked up if you've already done it in a previous year. So I've decided to go literal with this holiday and take our love into the air.

The It came from the Blog family of guilds will be holding a party on the Love Zeppelin -- and you're invited!

 When: Thursday, Feb. 16 at 11 p.m. EST (8 p.m. PST, 9 p.m. server time)

Where: Meet near the flightpath in Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)

Who: Any level Horde player, clothing optional

How: Ask any member of It came from the Blog for an invite

What: Fun, dancing, party games, love -- something for everyone

We will not be forming a raid group for this event, but we will have a chat channel set up as usual. So join us this Thursday night for the Love Zeppelin. Here, have an earworm.

Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) in It came from the Blog. Any member can invite, so /whisper Roblinator or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules -- basically, don't be a funsucker! In a past edition of The Queue, evoxpisces asked,

If each class had its own theme song, what would they be? Or at least what genres would each represent them?

Some commenters answered with their opinions, but I didn't read them because I wanted to form my own list without anyone's influence.

Druid Boadicea by Enya It is woodsy with a hint of danger.

Shaman Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel But I was really tempted by Daniel Radcliffe singing Tom Lehrer's Elements.

Death knight Du Hast by Rammstein Too obvious?

Mage Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind and Fire Mages are quite a bit flashy. In fact, I think the next tier set should be based on the costumes from that video.

Warlock Cold by The Cure I guess The Cure was a pretty obvious choice as well. Fire by Arthur Brown was a runner up.

Rogue Hide and Seek by Namie Amuro, but only because of the great video Craft of War: Blind, where a rogue really shines.

Warrior Birth, School, Work, Death by The Godfathers The perfect workhorse song -- though a bit fatalistic.

Hunter Hunter by Dido I just went literal with this one.

Paladin Gold by Spandau Ballet because pallies are so shiny. Blood elf paladins get their very own song and video, above.

Priest Violet by Hole I can't believe I left priests off the list at first! My apologies. Please still heal me.

What do you think of my list? What theme song or genre would you choose for your class or all classes?

Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

I think it is long past time for another results edition of Drama Mamas. Some letter writers have already sent me the outcome of our advice, which is always wonderful. But we could still use some more. If you have written the Drama Mamas and we have answered you in print, please send us an email at robin@wowinsider.com. We will compile the responses in a future column, once we get enough of them.

On to the drama ... This week, we have another RP romance conundrum.

	Dear Drama Mamas --

I've recently started roleplaying on Wyrmrest Accord, and I really love it! It's a fun way to meet new people and really get into your character, even if I only do it somewhat-casually. However, I have an issue that I need some help with. When I first joined my roleplaying guild it was fine and dandy, but one person in particular gave me more attention than anyone else. I was fine with it, as we were in character and my character was single and all, so I flirted a bit and over time our characters started a (somewhat) romantic relationship.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: When roleplayed love is in the air

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, RP, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: When roleplayed love is in the air originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 13 Feb 2012 09:00:00 EST. You just can't take a picture of yourself during Love is in the Air without a heart on your head.

I actually don't like the phrase "real life" when describing what happens in the physical world because it implies that the interactions we have in Azeroth aren't real. Captain Obvious says that WoW is not a single-player game. When we are playing Mass Effect, we don't affect anyone else if we get up to take a bio break or comfort a child. But in World of Warcraft, if we are in a group of any size, we affect others every time we AFK.

The phrase "real life is more important than WoW" is a mantra we hear all the time, and it is true in that you shouldn't shirk responsibilities in the physical world in order to play. However, if you have committed yourself for a period of time to other players, it is the same thing as committing yourself to any group of people in the physical world. Breaking that commitment falls under the same etiquette umbrella, whether in game or out.
Continue reading Breakfast Topic: How do you handle real-life interruptions?

Breakfast Topic: How do you handle real-life interruptions? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 12 Feb 2012 08:00:00 EST.

I have no hard data, but my guess is that guild hopping has greatly decreased since the advent of guild reputation and perks. If you're going to leave a max-level guild that you are at least friendly with, you usually have a really good reason. In fact, I think many people stay in guilds far too long just because of the time investment in gathering reputation.

But guild levels haven't always been around, and many people who played before Cataclysm guild hopped. I've never been one for bopping from guild to guild. I like to get comfy in a guild and stick with it. Taking time to properly choose your guild helps, but sometimes guilds devolve into places you don't want to be. I've been rather lucky. Of course, the WoW Insider family of guilds is my main home, and it's a rather wonderful place to be.
Continue reading Breakfast Topic: How and why did you leave your previous guild?

Breakfast Topic: How and why did you leave your previous guild? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 08:00:00 EST. Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

In the video above, Candace's friends are off having fun without her. Since she is unwilling to find her own fun, she takes a portal to Mars to hang out with strangers -- and breaks into song. There are parallels with this week's letter (except for the song part).

	Hi Robin & Lisa,

I'm finally writing in with my own dilemma. Since I started playing this game in mid-Wrath, I've played with my girlfriend and our mutual friend. We have a strong bond and truly enjoy playing together, and GF and I have even met our friend IRL. In Wrath, I led our 10 man raid group, and we loved every minute of ICC. Once the Cataclysm was upon us, we expected to continue raiding. However, things rarely work out as planned, and we missed T11 completely, mostly due to the dissolution of our guild. Eventually I became frustrated with lack of progress and quit the game for a while.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: Choosing between raiding and friendships

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: Choosing between raiding and friendships originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 06 Feb 2012 13:00:00 EST.

Last week, the It came from the Blog family of guilds celebrated our second annual Lunar Lunacy. We gathered in Orgrimmar at the Lunar Festival area near the flight path. The minimum level to participate was 10, so that we could organize a raid in order to make good use of guild perks.

With participants from level 12 to 85, we got the following achievements:

Elders of the Alliance Members of The Insiders (our sister max-level guild) summoned us with Have Group, Will Travel to the enemy cities and used Mass Resurrection as needed.

Elders of the Horde Mage ports took us where we needed to go for this achievement.

Elune's Blessing We defeated Omen and basked in the afterglow.

Some players also got the Frenzied Firecracker and Rocket's Red Glare achievements while we were organizing the raid.

Then those of us with all of the sub-Cataclysm Azerothian flight paths completed the Elders of Eastern Kingdoms achievement by following the Overachiever's Guide to the Lunar Festival, only abandoning one non-flying person along the way.
We've talked before about how to leave your guild, but what happens after that?

	Hey Drama Mamas!

Today i write to you lovely ladies with a problem that I have been wrestling with for almost 4 years: finding someone to play World of Warcraft with. Here is the high and low of it, or rather the long and short:

Four or so years ago my brother starts playing a game that I considered to be a money sand trap: World of Warcraft, I cannot honestly say I was friendly to the franchise as at the time I was Neverwinter Night's personal slave (still am sometimes) but to make a long story short (too late) I was persuaded to take a vacation to Azeroth and I have never left. I fell in love with the planet and its people and while my hearth stone will always be set to Neverwinter, I am really enjoying my time in Azeroth.

Continue reading Drama Mamas: How to find gaming buddies

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Guilds, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas: How to find gaming buddies originally appeared on WoW Insider on Mon, 30 Jan 2012 09:00:00 EST.

Last year, the Drama Mamas answered a letter from a person whose pet peeve was being called by her class instead of by her character name. The comments showed that many people agreed with her, while others argued that it wasn't impersonal so much as efficient. Re-reading that post made me want to talk about pet peeves again. Check out this ancient Breakfast Topic by our former editor-in-chief, which asks the same question I'm asking today, or this also similar one from last year.

But I think it is important to direct you to my declaration of my biggest in-game pet peeve: "rogue" vs. "rouge." This misuse really, really bothers me. I understand that it is an easy typo, but I also believe that many people think that is how rogue is spelled. As I've said before, rouge is a cosmetic applied to your cheeks; rogue is a deadly killer who likes to make with the stabby. My common response to that is (stolen from someone else): Rouges are overpowdered. That statement often gets a mixed response from the chat audience -- many misread it and want to start a class war.
Continue reading Breakfast Topic: What are your WoW pet peeves?

Breakfast Topic: What are your WoW pet peeves? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sat, 28 Jan 2012 08:00:00 EST.

This Saturday, the It came from the Blog family of guilds will be holding the second annual Lunar Lunacy event. We will be attempting a few Lunar Festival achievements and respecting our elders. Hopefully, they weren't paying attention to those of us who got the Scrooge achievement during the Feast of Winter Veil.

 When: Saturday, Jan, 28 at 1 p.m. EST (10 a.m. PST, 11 a.m. server time)

Where: Meet at the Lunar Festival area near the flightpath in Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H).

Who: Any Horde player level 10 or higher (for raid forming)

How: Ask Roblinator or anyone in It came from the Blog for a guild invite if you are not already in our family of guilds.

What: The plan is to get Elders of the Alliance, Elune's Blessing and a few other achievements.

The highest character you have will probably have the most fun, as otherwise you may be abandoned with the other lowbies if we honor some flightpath elders. Death knights don't take too long to be event-ready -- just make sure you are done getting food thrown at you by the time the event begins.

Hope to see you there!
All members can invite, so /whisper Roblinator or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules -- basically, don't be a funsucker!
