Amazing Cloud Serpent Pumpkin

Amazing Cloud Serpent Pumpkin
Given that it's actually Hallowe'en today, this is an incredibly appropriate piece to be doing rather well on Reddit. It's an amazing pumpkin carving of a Cloud Serpent, that's caught the attention of many Blizzard people, and with good reason! It might not be totally clear unless you look at the picture at the bottom right of the header, then progress back through them, but the detail on this is just stunning. I am blown away by the pumpkin carving that people do every year, and this one really takes the cake.

The use of varying depths of carving to create the detail of the scales, the faded-out saddle, and the bright glow of the eyes and the fire the dragon is breathing just blow me away -- it's all I can do to cut two eyes and a mouth! You should definitely hit up the Imgur to see the rest of the pumpkin, even the less interesting sides are amazing. And if remarkable pumpkin carving is your thing, Blizzard's contest is a must-see. Some of the things people create just blow my mind. And whoever carved this Cloud Serpent pumpkin should definitely enter the contest!

Blizzard announces 2013 Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest
Are you handy with the tools necessary to create a magical masterpiece of pumpkin art? Blizzard has just announced its annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest for 2013. Aspiring entrants need only carve a Blizzard-themed pumpkin from any of its licenses, including Warcraft, Diablo, or StarCraft, and then take a photo of said pumpkin to submit for entry. Five winners will be chosen from all entries, and the winners will each receive a copy of Diablo III: Book of Tyrael, the latest in Diablo lore compendiums. If you're not sure on just what kind of cool design to carve, you can always check out last year's winners for inspiration. Head to Blizzard's official contest page to submit your entry -- you have until October 29 to get it sent in. For more information, take a look at Blizzard's official rules for the contest. BlizzCon 2013 contests announced

Need another reason to be excited about BlizzCon? For the creative types out there (or those who just enjoy admiring the work of creative types), Blizzard has released a preview of the contest lineup for BlizzCon this November. And, though full details are to follow (including complete rules, guidelines, eligibility information, and submission details), you can start planning work now.

BlizzCon 2013 Contests
BlizzCon 2013 Art Contest
The Art Contest is coming back! We can't wait to see your always impressive original Blizzard-based artwork. Carpe diem-there's no time like now to dream up your next masterpiece in the hope of having it displayed at BlizzCon (and winning some great prizes).

BlizzCon 2013 Original Movie Contest
We're looking forward to screening another brilliant selection of original films based on Blizzard games. Whether it's live action, animated, wholly digital, or a combination, we can't wait to see what you come up with.

BlizzCon 2013 Costume Contest
The Costume Contest makes a triumphant return! Every BlizzCon, you keep upping the ante for amazing costumes, and we're sure this show will be no exception. As you're contemplating what you'd like to create, keep in mind that your safety is of paramount importance-that means that any costume you plan to wear should be something that you can easily see out of and safely maneuver in without assistance. In addition, no real weapons, dangerous materials, or large motorized costumes will be allowed.

And, while the costume contest is definitely something you need to be at the convention for -- remember, there's another round of ticket sales on Saturday and we have some buying tips for hopeful attendees -- the art and movie contests are online contests.

Enter to win The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

When we first heard about The Art of Blizzard Entertainment, a collection of artwork from Blizzard's artists over the course of their development history, we all seriously underestimated its size. While many expected something on the scale of the art books that come packaged with a World of Warcraft Collector's Edition, it turned out to be a 376 page behemoth that dwarfs nearly everything else on my office bookshelf. The book features everything from Chris Metzen's earliest Blizzard works to far more recent Mists of Pandaria and Diablo III artwork.

Thanks to Blizzard Entertainment themselves, we have a copy of the book to give to one of our lucky readers.

To enter for a chance to win, leave a comment on this post before 11:59 p.m. ET, Tuesday, April 9, 2013. You must be 18 years of age or older and a legal resident of the United States or Canada (excluding Quebec). You can only enter once. One winner will be chosen at random and we will contact you via whatever method you've used to comment. Official rules here.
