WoW Insider's Guide to Pilgrim's Bounty 2013 achievements

While Pilgrim's Bounty isn't part of the meta What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, it's inarguably one of the most helpful yearly events. Yes, you can rack up some points with the Pilgrim meta and get a plump turkey pet, but the holiday has an unbeatable side benefit -- it's a fast, easy, and cheap way to level cooking to 350. If you've got a lot of alts around that haven't leveled the profession or never got around to doing it on your made, Pilgrim's Bounty will get that fixed as long as you're willing to put in a little elbow grease. As with Hallow's End and the recent anniversary tabard, you can also get a reputation boost from participating: The Spirit of Sharing from the feast tables grants an additional 10% to reputation gains.

Pilgrim's Bounty runs from Monday, Nov. 25 through Monday, Dec. 2nd this year. It's not one of the longer holidays, so if you'd like to get all the goodies, you'll want to start early. However, there's been no sign of an update to this year's version (we assume the developers are busy with Warlords of Draenor), so if you've done Pilgrim's Bounty previously on all the characters who needed to level cooking, you probably won't see additional benefit this year apart from a bit of fun.

Reminder: WoW's 9th Anniversary event begins today

Festivities for World of Warcraft's 9th Anniversary begin today! During this two-week event, players can log on and take advantage of a 9% boost to experience and reputation gain for all characters. In addition, logging on during this time period will grant you a Feat of Strength. Players logging on during the event will receive an in-game mail with a Celebration Package attached. Using the item will grant the XP and reputation buff -- but only during the event!

Although World of Warcraft officially launched on November 23, 2004, this two-week event surrounding that auspicious date allows players to get a leg up on leveling those pesky alts that they might want to dust off before the launch of Warlords. New players can take advantage as well, of course. The event ends at noon on December 2, so be sure to log in on all your characters and nab those Feats of Strength before they're gone for good.

Breakfast Topic: What live event do you wish BlizzCon would hold?

Greg 'Ghostcrawler' Street at BlizzCon 2011's Live Raid
We're just days away from the big event, and if you're anything like me (or our not-so-crabby friend up there), your e-spine is increasingly tingling as these final days tick inexorably away. We're no doubt about to indulge ourselves in two gloriously exhausting days stuffed to the gills with huge announcements, exciting events, informative talks and all-around great entertainment -- plus, some of WoW's most famous and talented players will be on the game's biggest stage competing live for honor, glory and the satiation of their near-unquenchable virtual bloodlust.

Aye, there'll be tournaments and competitions galore at BlizzCon this year, just as there have been in years past -- including a live raid in which two of the world's top guilds race to drag Garrosh and his cronies down into the Orgrimmarian mud. Pixels shall be felled, victors shall be crowned, and all of WoWdom shall rejoice!

It's just that ... well, sometimes, don't you kinda wish that in addition to the organized PvP tournaments and live raids, BlizzCon also featured other kinds of live gaming events?

What if there was a competition among our greatest pet battlers? Or an online fashion-runway contest in which players strutted out their most fabulously, uniquely dressed and transmogged characters? Or a carefully staged scenario in which a bunch of unsuspecting PvE-only players were dropped into a zone and told to farm 50 herbs as quickly as they could, only to realize the hard way that standing in their way was a similarly sized group of the world's most accomplished PvP gankers?

If you could add one live event to the BlizzCon schedule this year, what would it be?

Reminder: Day of the Dead November 1st and 2nd

day of the dead
Hot on the heels of the Hallow's End festivities comes Day of the Dead, which is actually two days, to give you a few extra chances to grab the single achievement available on this holiday. The Day of the Dead is a time to remember and celebrate the spirits of those who have been lost, which must hold a special irony for the Forsaken. Oh well!

You can grab a number of fun items during the Day of the Dead, including the seasonal pet Macabre Marionette, the Bread of the Dead recipe, Bouquet of Orange Marigolds, Whimsical Skull Mask, and a Spirit Candle. Check out the Day of the Dead post on the WoW official blog for more information on the holiday.

It came from the Blog: Candy Run 2013 snapshots

Candy Run 2013 trick or treat
Last Friday, It came from the Blog hosted its annual Candy Run. We met in Brill and put out the fires of the Headless Horseman. We then ran around to all of the inns that are easily accessible by running. We trick or treated in Silvermoon and all of the blood elf area inns as well as Tirisfal Glades and all of the undead area inns. We proceeded through Silverpine Forest, onward to Hillsbrad Foothills and ended the first part of the event at Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands.

We then abandoned the lowbies and those of us with all of the flightpaths in the Eastern Kingdoms flew around together, trick or treating at all of the continent's inns. We started up north with the Hinterlands, Western Plaguelands and Eastern Plaguelands. Then we took the long trip to the Badlands and continued through the southern part of the continent, ending in Sassy Hardwrench's Hideaway in Stranglethorn, earning us the Tricks and Treats of Eastern Kingdoms achievement.

This event was much longer than most of our events, but it was tons of fun nonetheless. We have an event every month, so stay tuned for the announcement for November's holiday outing. The snapshots for Candy Run 2013 are below.

Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) in It came from the Blog. All guild ranks can invite, so /whisper Tizzi or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules -- basically, don't be a funsucker! Visit the guild FAQ for more details.

Guide to Hallow's End 2013

Headless Horseman comic.
Hallow's End 2013 begins on Friday, Oct. 18 and runs through Friday, Nov. 1 this year. As with most of the game's holidays, Hallow's End is required for the yearlong meta What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been that grants the Violet Proto-Drake. Completing the required Hallow's End achievements will also award the title the Hallowed.

In 2011, Blizzard added some major updates and improvements to the holiday, one of which completely eliminated the hassle behind one of WoW's most hideous RNG nightmares, and one of which left us with two very cool non-combat pets. In short, Tricky Treats -- once vomit-inducing but otherwise useless items that dropped in spades from the holiday boss, the Headless Horseman -- are now a form of currency that players can use to buy pets, masks, and wands. And for all you pet collectors out there, you'll really want to pick up a Feline Familiar, a Beast-type pet with an unusually useful moveset.

If you didn't get around to the holiday last year, please note that there's an additional 10 points available in the form of Tricks and Treats of Pandaria.

It came from the Blog: Brewfest 2013 snapshots

It came from the Blog Brewfest 2013 snapshots
Last month It came from the Blog celebrated Brewfest like we do every year: with lots of virtual beer and real fun. We began by meeting in Orgrimmar and then made our way over to the Brewfest grounds. We picked up quests and proceeded to Chug and Chuck. We then learned how to ride rams, which we were assured were not at all stolen, and proceeded to do some beer running. We then sold some brew by advertising it throughout Orgrimmar.

Then the Dark Iron dwarves attacked. We fought them back by using our new found skills of chugging and chucking -- this year with non-alcoholic brew. So this was the first year we chucked without upchucking. I guess this was a good thing, though part of the fun was always having the screen get too blurry to see.

Uldum guilds unite for breast cancer awareness month

Breast Cancer awareness month
October is breast cancer awareness month in the United States. Here at WoW Insider we have featured a number of in-game events in the past that have been organized around raising awareness for breast cancer. This year, we have been informed that the guild Endless Insanity on Uldum is running their own event in support of breast cancer awareness. Members of Endless Insanity have turned their tabards pink for this month and they have issued a challenge to other Horde guilds on the server to also turn their tabards pink in solidarity. Guild officers will be randomly opening trade and offering a variety of goodies to those they find sporting the pink tabards.

To those who have been affected by breast cancer -- whether you are a survivor, facing treatment right now, a loved one of someone who is, or have lost someone close to you to breast cancer -- we at WoW Insider salute you and wish you strength in your struggles. And to the guild Endless Insanity and any others that may follow their example this year, we thank you and hope that you inspire many to join in the efforts for the cure.

Thanks to the members of Endless Insanity who informed us of their events -- and here's to hoping it inspires some other guilds to do the same!

My holiday discontent

My holiday discontent
I don't like WoW's in game holiday events.

I never really did. In general, I'm not a big pet/mount/special cruft kind of collector, although I'll admit I've always wanted the Great Brewfest Kodo on my Alliance characters, just because I miss kodo. They're one of my favorite mounts. But be it Love is in the Air, Hallow's Eve, the Harvest Festival, or the Lunar Festival I just don't like the in-game holidays. What ends up happening is this: a lot of people do a lot of stuff, then there's a dungeon I can run once a day for special rewards I either don't care about or won't get, and then it's over.

Now, you could point out a few things here. First off, that it's okay if I don't like the content as long as I'm not forced to do it and I'll agree with you. The content is eminently avoidable. I do like that. I like not having to do any of this stuff. I don't have to rescue reindeer or go fight the Greench, but for some reason I find the holiday events annoying and I won't even pretend I know why I find them annoying. I just admitted I can avoid them. Why, then, do they bother me so much?

And here's another weird but true fact: they annoyed me a lot less when you could chain-farm them. Ever since they put holiday bosses like Coren Direbrew, The Headless Horseman and Ahune on the dungeon finder and made them drop one special bag a day (for your first run) I've found them far, far more terrible and annoying even though it means I can run them less. I actually find myself looking back fondly on the day that I ran the Headless Horseman twenty-seven times, as everyone in our group of five switched to every max level alt they had to get another shot at the fellow.

I don't even understand that one myself. I just said I don't like the holidays, and that I like being able to utterly avoid them, and now I'm saying that I don't like that I can run them less now?

Celebrate Pirates' Day on September 19th

Pirates' Day
Yarr, matey, it be that time o' the year again... no, no I'm not going to do the pirate speak for this post. Commenters of WoW Insider, I love you too much for that, despite the origin of this holiday. It is true, though, that tomorrow, September 19th, is the single-day holiday Pirates' Day in World of Warcraft. Dread Captain DeMeza has landed at Booty Bay along with her crew, and if you do so dare, you can find out if you have what it takes to raise a mug with her and become one of her crew!

So take your toons down to Booty Bay and have some grog for Pirates' Day. Just make sure that your toons are on good terms with the Steamwheedle Cartel. My sad main will be sitting this year's Pirates' Day out, because those Booty Bay Bruisers are aptly named.
