My holiday discontent

My holiday discontent
I don't like WoW's in game holiday events.

I never really did. In general, I'm not a big pet/mount/special cruft kind of collector, although I'll admit I've always wanted the Great Brewfest Kodo on my Alliance characters, just because I miss kodo. They're one of my favorite mounts. But be it Love is in the Air, Hallow's Eve, the Harvest Festival, or the Lunar Festival I just don't like the in-game holidays. What ends up happening is this: a lot of people do a lot of stuff, then there's a dungeon I can run once a day for special rewards I either don't care about or won't get, and then it's over.

Now, you could point out a few things here. First off, that it's okay if I don't like the content as long as I'm not forced to do it and I'll agree with you. The content is eminently avoidable. I do like that. I like not having to do any of this stuff. I don't have to rescue reindeer or go fight the Greench, but for some reason I find the holiday events annoying and I won't even pretend I know why I find them annoying. I just admitted I can avoid them. Why, then, do they bother me so much?

And here's another weird but true fact: they annoyed me a lot less when you could chain-farm them. Ever since they put holiday bosses like Coren Direbrew, The Headless Horseman and Ahune on the dungeon finder and made them drop one special bag a day (for your first run) I've found them far, far more terrible and annoying even though it means I can run them less. I actually find myself looking back fondly on the day that I ran the Headless Horseman twenty-seven times, as everyone in our group of five switched to every max level alt they had to get another shot at the fellow.

I don't even understand that one myself. I just said I don't like the holidays, and that I like being able to utterly avoid them, and now I'm saying that I don't like that I can run them less now?

Celebrate Pirates' Day on September 19th

Pirates' Day
Yarr, matey, it be that time o' the year again... no, no I'm not going to do the pirate speak for this post. Commenters of WoW Insider, I love you too much for that, despite the origin of this holiday. It is true, though, that tomorrow, September 19th, is the single-day holiday Pirates' Day in World of Warcraft. Dread Captain DeMeza has landed at Booty Bay along with her crew, and if you do so dare, you can find out if you have what it takes to raise a mug with her and become one of her crew!

So take your toons down to Booty Bay and have some grog for Pirates' Day. Just make sure that your toons are on good terms with the Steamwheedle Cartel. My sad main will be sitting this year's Pirates' Day out, because those Booty Bay Bruisers are aptly named.

It came from the Blog: Occupy Orgrimmar snapshots

It came from the Blog Occupy Orgrimmar snapshots
Last Friday, It came from the Blog participated in Occupy Orgrimmar, protesting Garrosh's treatment of the trolls. It was a peaceful protest. After all, we're all still patriots. For the Horde! But we did our part to support the troll community.

All of the trolls met in Sen'jin Village. Then we marched to Razor Hill and onward to Orgrimmar. We went straight to Grommash Hold and sat in Garrosh's chambers for a while. Protesta, my troll, made a speech showing solidarity with our fellow trolls.

The trolls are being oppressed in Orgrimmar and it's time someone stood up for their rights and supported them in their time of need. It came from the Blog: Midsummer Flamefest 2013 snapshots

It came from the Blog Midsummer Flamefest 2013 snapshots DNP
Last month, It came from the Blog held its annual Flamefest, celebrating the Midsummer Fire Festival. Each year, we pick a continent and flame it. This year, we set the Eastern Kingdoms on fire.

First, we met in Brill, where the statue of the Dark Lady presides over all doings there. Then we went to the ruins of Lordaeron and took the portal to Silvermoon City. We rode through town, out the front gate and over to the fire outside Falconwing Square. After that, we headed to Tranquillien in the Ghostlands to honor the flame there.

We took the flightpath back to the city, ran to the portal, returned to the ruins and then headed to Silverpine Forest. Once there, we traveled to the Sepulcher where we again honored the flame and spun around in circles. Then off to Tarren Mill we went, passing inconspicuous bears as we went.

It came from the Blog: Running of the Orphans 2013 snapshots

It came from the Blog Running of the Orphans 2013 snapshots
Last week, the It came from the Blog family of guilds held its annual Running of the Orphans. As the name suggests, we ran our orphans around, completing the Orgrimmar Children's Week quests.

After we picked up our orphans from the matron, we took the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Tirisfal Glades. We ran (no mounts, no ports, no summons) to have an audience with Lady Sylvanas in the Undercity. Then we ran back to the zeppelin, making the return trip to Org. Next, since some players did not have the flightpath to Thunder Bluff, we took the zeppelin there (AKA the Love Zeppelin) and ran out to Red Rocks to honor the fallen chieftain. We ran back to town and then took the flightpath right back to Orgrimmar.

It came from the Blog: Join us for the Running of the Orphans 2013

It came from the Blog Join us for the Running of the Orphans 2013
It's Children's Week, so it must mean it's time for It came from the Blog's annual Running of the Orphans. As the event name says, we get orphans and we run around with them while completing our orphan quests.
  • When: Friday, May 3 at 10:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. PDT, 8:30 p.m. server time)
  • Where: Meet at the pond near the engineering trainer that's next to the orphanage in Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)
  • Who: Any Horde character level 10 or over
  • How: Ask any member of It came from the Blog for an invite to the guild if you are not already a member of our family of guilds.
You have to be at least level 10, because you can't get an orphan otherwise. We also will not be forming a raid since we need to complete quests. We will have an event chat set up as usual, however.

The pet you get for completing the quest is bind on account and tradeable, so don't let your not being Horde or Zangarmarsh not being your main server stop you from joining us.

Hope to see you there!

Reminder: It came from the Blog's Bar Crawl 2013 is tonight

Reminder It came from the Blog's Bar Crawl 2013 is tonight
Tonight is the night we celebrate It came from the Blog's penchant for virtual boozing.
  • When: Tonight, April 26 at 10:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. PDT, 8:30 p.m. server time)
  • Where: Meet at the inn in the Valley of Strength, Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)
  • Who: Any character level 10 or above
  • How: Just ask any It came from the Blog member if you are not already in our family of guilds
  • What: Visiting bars throughout Azeroth
The two things we usually have in our events are drinking and death. You'll need some cash for buying digital drinks, but I'll buy you some, should you run short.

Mounts are not required as much of the travel will be by mage portals. You will need to be level 10 to join the raid group, however.

We will not be holding cross-realm events for the foreseeable future, so you need to be on Zangarmarsh and you need to be Horde. But keeping a character in our guild means you can always join in our monthly events.

We look forward to seeing you at Bar Crawl 2013!

It came from the Blog: Join us for Bar Crawl 2013

It came from the Blog Join us for Bar Crawl 2013
It's time for this month's It came from the Blog event and we're going to be virtually drinking. Again. This time the excuse is so that we can hit some famous and not-so-famous bars around Azeroth.

We'll begin our journey with Barkeep Morag in Orgrimmar. Here are the details:
  • When: Friday, April 26 at 10:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. PDT, 8:30 p.m. server time)
  • Where: Meet at the inn in the Valley of Strength, Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)
  • Who: Any character level 10 or above
  • How: Just ask any It came from the Blog member if you are not already in our family of guilds.
  • What: Virtual booze, travel, more virtual booze, probably no death -- this time
You should be at least level 10, so that you can join a raid group. You also should have some money for drinking, but I can provide libations for those who are short on cash.

So join us for Bar Crawl 2013! And if you normally play Alliance please create a Horde character and join us anyway. You'll be able to see some places that are new to you and have some fun as well.

Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) in It came from the Blog. All guild ranks can invite, so /whisper Tizzi or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules -- basically, don't be a funsucker! Visit the guild FAQ for more details.
