Do the Harlem Shake with ElvUI for April Fools' Day

The above video shows what awaits for ElvUI users when they log in today. I must say, I've been using addons and UI mods for years now in WoW, but as one YouTube commenter says, "Trolled by an addon, that's a first for me." Personally, I got a good kick out of seeing this on my main and I'm looking forward to logging onto my alts, at least just to see my dwarf scream "DO THE HARLEM SHAKE" to Zangarmarsh.

However, for those ElvUI users among you who may have been less than diligent about keeping on top of updates - and who can blame you really, I swear ElvUI goes out of date every three days - it seems that instead of the Harlem Shake, you get a message saying all your gold has been donated to the Orgrimmar orphanage. I personally can't confirm this, because for once I did update my UI as soon as it said to. Let us know if you can confirm/deny the orphanage joke!

Big thanks to @Vixsin_LiG5 for bringing the video to our attention, as well as the other commenters who tipped us on ElvUI's goofy prank. Happy April Fools' Day!

Sunday Morning Funnies: Contested Territory

Sunday Morning Funnies Contested Territory SUN
Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

Over the next several months, SMF will spotlight a regularly updating WoW-related comic. To kick off the series is Contested Territory:

What happens when two small girls from either side of the war meet? What happens when they become best friends? Contested Territory is a story about just that; a young orc named Thook and a rescued night elf with no memories named Kithra. Instantly inseparable, the girls face the challenges of Azeroth together, testing the boundaries of friendship, family and faction as they learn what makes them so similar, yet so different.

Raised by loving but cautious Auntie and Uncle, Aguul and Kross, as well as a dear tauren friend, Winthir, Thook and Kithra learn what happens when two enemies meet before they are old enough to understand hatred.

This comic was originally written in 2008, with the prologue and chapters one and two taking place during Vanilla. The comic is done entirely by hand: pencil, pen, colored pencil, and scan.

Contested Territory uploads regularly on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Sunday Morning Funnies: Foppish

Sunday Morning Funnies SUN
Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

This week, we have a nice long list plus a slew of bonus material. Moeru (of Lo'meath & Huilii) has posted about her experiences at Toronto ComiCon 2013, including a few photos. Coffin, who has been recovering after a convention, posted some cool notes and drawings about the process of creating What's Shakin'.

Kuo is taking naming suggestions for a wolf and NPC posted some sketches in late February. Gratz posted several updates this week (with the much-promised action) and although Contested Territory is still on hiatus, there are several new sketches up that you might find interesting!

Trig, we're all still wishing you well and hoping for a speedy recovery! Ash (of The Trolling of Azeroth) also mentioned being sick, and we hope that by now you're doing much better.

As always, if you have any tips for comics to include, you're welcome to leave a comment with a link!

Nethaera wants to know your most coveted and unusual items

nelf map emote
Over at the official forums Community Manager Nethaera has a bit of an unusual question for everyone: do you dream of electric sheep? Well, okay, it's not exactly that question. She wants to know what unusual or unique items you hoard, keep, or carry and the reason why. Do you hang onto Pamela Redpath's tea for courage when you face the undead? Do you keep Archmage Vargoth's Staff for some company on those long, Netherstorm nights? Or is it a practical item that you prefer - a repair bot or the Direbrew Remote for when you simply must have some of that Dark Iron brew?

This question is actually a tough one for me to answer. Not because I don't have an answer but because I have entirely too many answers. My bags and bank are stuffed full of random items that I refuse to get rid of, even now-useless stuff like Shard of the Fallen Star. I guess if I had to choose, I'd say it'd be a tie for two: my Orb of Deception and Orb of the Sin'dorei. I love turning my night elf into an undead or blood elf, respectively, though unfortunately the Orb of Deception requires being equipped in a trinket slot to work, so it's not very practical for raiding. The Orb of the Sin'dorei you can just click to use. True story: once upon a time back in Wrath I was hanging out, transformed into a blood elf, at the Ulduar summoning stone helping bring my guildmates to the raid. Another Alliance player walked up and /spit on me. When I whispered him with a frowny face emote, he freaked out and thought I was a hacker. Helpful tip, my friend: a blood elf in full tier 7 druid gear is not actually a blood elf! Also, you shouldn't /spit on people, it's really rude!

Sunday Morning Funnies: Dog dress

Sunday Morning Funnies Dog dress SUN
Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

The day has finally come to unveil the new and improved SMF Guide! It features some never-before-seen artwork (as well as some you have) and will guide you through the comics that most often grace this list. A big thanks goes out to the artists who submitted artwork, and for their patience while it was all being assembled. Check it out below!

In comic news, Contested Territory's Maiu is attending PAX East (Boston) March 22-24. She'll be cosplaying Pokemon on Friday and Saturday but wearing a t-shirt to advertise her comic on Sunday. She's also bringing a hard copy of her comic.

In other news, LFG is now on ComiXology! And The Daily Blink has a new t-shirt.

Also, I regret to inform you that Trigonometry is feeling pretty sick, and as such, only managed one comic this week! (*cough*slacker*cough*) But really; we're all wishing you well, Trig.

Coffin also caught a bug and so there's no What's Shakin' this week. Feel better Coffin!

Finally, if you're curious, the GU Comics indiegogo fundraising never did hit its first ad-free goal; however, it surpassed $10,500 which means that the artist will start converting comic images into printable files in preparation for a future print book.

Editor's Note: The gallery was not ready for public consumption yet! Sorry!

Lich King easter egg discovered in StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

Lich King in SC2 Image Editor
"There must always be a Lich King," Bolvar reminded us, and he really, really meant it. Across all realities, in every Blizzard intellectual property, there must be a Lich King. That's right, take a look at that screenshot up there. Yup, that's the Lich King, buried in a sheet of ice somewhere in the Koprulu Sector. Redditor Aunvilgod laments, "I'm just making a map, and I see this..." I'm not sure it's really any major source of concern, though, considering we have recent confirmation that the Zerg would curbstomp the Scourge in a brawl. Then again, that's only good news if you're Zerg. Terrans and Protoss might have a slightly different perspective.

Unsurprisingly, the thread is immediately flooded with cries for a Warcraft 4. I really don't think WoW is going anywhere anytime soon, folks, though I suppose fans can dream.

Texts From Azeroth

Rommath and Aethas
Texts From Last Night (NSFW language warning) isn't exactly a new website, and neither is the idea of taking one of the texts featured there and pairing it with some sort of imagery to add to the hilarity. So really, the appearance of Texts From Azeroth, where selected texts are paired with WoW screenshots, was only a matter of time.

I feel compelled to say this again: just assume that nothing beyond either of those links is safe for work. It's better that way.

I am almost embarrassed at how entertaining I am finding this blog. At first I saw it and thought, "Oh, this might be amusing" and within ten minutes I was weeping with laughter, linking pictures to Facebook, and trawling the Texts From Last Night page looking for inspiration. Making that header image up there represents a few glorious moments of my life that I can never get back. Oh yes.

Cherished readers of WoW Insider, do share in the comments -- which are your personal favorites? I'm quite partial to Garrosh and Kromgar here, for example. If you decide to make your own, link it here, and/or submit it to Texts From Azeroth yourself! Just please include a warning if the subject matter could potentially get someone in trouble. That's all we ask.

Only one week left to get your Winter Squid

Finishin in Dragonblight
Fellow fishing achievement-seekers and completionists, it's that time of year again! The time when birdsong fills the treetops, daffodils bloom merrily on hillsides, and clouds of pollen return to punish your sinuses for daring to survive another winter.

Oh, and it's also the time that Winter Squid turns into Summer Bass.

Fishing up both Winter Squid and Summer Bass is a requirement of The Oceanographer achievement. Much like the world event and holiday achievements, though, you need a certain time of year to be able to complete The Oceanographer. Winter Squid is fishable from September 23rd to March 20th, and Summer Bass from March 21st to September 22nd. Both can be found in normal waters (no schools or pools needed) in Sunken Temple, Feralas, The Cape of Stranglethorn, Badlands, Tanaris, Blasted Lands, and Swamp of Sorrows. Swamp of Sorrows appears to have the highest drop rate for the squid, and Blasted Lands is the best for bass. If you're a squid away from The Oceanographer, now's the time to cast your line! This has been a friendly reminder from your neighborhood WoW Insider columnists. Happy fishing!

Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

We have a nice full list this week! As always, if you have any tips, don't hesitate to drop some links into the comments section.

In other news, anyone who will be in Orlando for Megacon March 15-17 should definitely stop by and say hi to Coffin. He'll be in the artist alley at table Purple 15, and you should make sure you mention that you're a reader of the comic online because he's promised something special.

And we have one of our regular comics back! Welcome back from your hiatus, From Draenor With Love; we missed you! And speaking of a hiatus, although Contested Territory is out for the month of March, there are already quite a few goodies posted to tide you over, including original character sketches and and chapter covers.

Stay tuned for the unveiling of the SMF Gallery Guide 2.0 later this month! It's going to feature lots of original, never-before-seen artwork from several of your favorite comics.

Sunday Morning Funnies Smooches SUN
Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

We have a new comic to add to the list! Check out The Trolling of Azeroth (thanks for the tip, ash.w.miller!). I've linked the archive and will start next week by including the latest in the list. If anyone has any other tips, feel free to drop them into the comments section!

As an update to last week's comic-funding news, LFG's kickstarter fund was completed on Friday. GU Comics is still funding through indiegogo with the goal to shift the emphasis away from soliciting and managing ad revenue and towards making comics.

Coffin (and therefore What's Shakin') is down for the count this week with a bad cold; boo! Get well! Also, Kuo is back up; glad to hear that your father is doing better, Volucris! Check out Kuo's Facebook page for a couple of character drawings and definitely check out the new site that features only Fox Rain comics. I love the background! It really sets the mood.

In other news, fans of Foxtrot may want to make sure to check out The Daily Blink this week!

Finally, I'd like to congratulate Contested Territory on its 50th strip! Check it out below:

5 stupid-awesome uses for the Glyph of Disguise

5 stupidawesome uses for the Glyph of Disguise
Last year, we examined the curious possibilities of the remarkable Potion of Illusion, introduced in Cataclysm and hailed for its potential as a tool for amusement and mayhem. Potions of Illusion were my guild's go-to ingredient in what were otherwise boring waits for raiding to start, and my guild thoroughly enjoyed playing around and seeing what different kinds of effects we could mimic. Although the days of Cataclysm are over, the Potion of Illusion still has its uses. And in Mists of Pandaria, the possibilities have opened just a little wider due to the introduction of a glyph that works hand-in-hand with the Potion of Illusion.

In Mists, rogues were given the Glyph of Disguise. This minor glyph allows rogues to copy the appearance of an enemy, simply by pickpocketing it. Sadly, the Glyph does have its limits -- rogues can no longer pickpocket Durn the Hungerer, a source of endless hours of amusement in beta -- but that doesn't mean the glyph is devoid of all fun. In fact, there are plenty of cool mobs out there in the world, waiting to be mimicked.

Sunday Morning Funnies: Proper revenge

Sunday Morning Funnies Proper revenge
Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

Have you heard? LFG is fundraising on Kickstarter for an animated musical short! There are some cool prizes for contributing, including an awesome Squishable Richard that is selling out fast. Even if you can't 'pony' up, you'll benefit - the final production will be public.

And don't forget that you can donate to GU Comics via indigogo until March 8 for cool rewards and to help make it ad-free for everyone - including the creator, who is aiming to decrease his reliance on ad revenue and focus on comic-makin'.

Both sites recently took a hit when from the Blind Ferret Network went down, but are both back up and running and on this week's list.

Guilded Age is now updating five times a week. Yay! (And kind of badass this week. Check it out!) We have an extra comic on the list this week thanks to a tipster. The new SMF Gallery is progressing nicely, and will be unveiled this month. Finally, NPC posted a video of one of this week's comics being drawn from scratch (compressed to 2.5 minutes) and it's awesome.

Sunday Morning Funnies: I really like to sew

Sunday Morning Funnies SUN
Sunday Morning Funnies is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

In general comic news, GU Comics (a general gaming comic that sometimes features WoW-related content) is crowdsourcing for funds using Indiegogo, which also means some cool benefits are to be had in exchange for donations, from access to extra artwork to commissioned pieces just for you and more. Plus, if enough funds are raised, the site will feature less (or zero) ads for a year.

NPC Comic has had its site design tweaked. Check it out! Also, if you've always wanted to see Chloe and Bink being sketched in an animated GIF (I never knew that I secretly desired this, but here we are), well, now is your chance!
