EU Connected Realms update released

An update to the EU realm connections has been released with the successful completion of patch 5.4.2. Several new realms are now slated for connection, and although no official date has been released for the connections, they should begin next week according to the post. Players on the realms listed should expect a little downtime in the near future, and a bunch of new players to hit the scene shortly after for raiding, guilds, and a heftier auction house.

While the list is somewhat short, it includes English, French, Spanish and German realms. Read on for the full list -- and if you have any questions regarding the Connected Realms process, Blizzard has an official blog post that explains the process in full.

Last Week in WoW: Spying on your WoW edition

warlock in water
Happy Tuesday morning everyone. I suppose first we should acknowledge the story it seems everyone's talking about. Yes. The government is still watching you play WoW. I'm betting they have Wrathion on a watchlist somewhere, that crafty little whelp. Still, for my money, the cooler news is that Ghostcrawler was on our podcast and that patch 5.4.2 is dropping this morning.

With the patch dropping, downtime is scheduled to start at 1 a.m. Pacific time and last until 11 a.m., so you should have plenty of time to read up on all the new stuff from patch 5.4.2, as well as all the other news and guides from the past week. Read on for the usual roundup.

Last Week in WoW: Sad news edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. By now, I'm sure most of you have heard the biggest news. Lead Systems Designer Greg Tiberius Street, better known as Ghostcrawler, is leaving us. Not only that, the Warcraft movie has been delayed until 2016.

But don't get too down. There's still good news to be thankful for. For example, The Daily Blink came out of retirement to comment on Ghostcrawler's retirement. We also got some pretty juicy news for the next expansion. For all of that and more, read on. Downtime today is limited to rolling restarts, but it never hurts to take a break.

Last Week in WoW: Boat bugs edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. I'm running a little low on sleep these days. I blame Alex for making me buy Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, because I cannot stop playing it. This thing is the awesome open world Pirate game I always wanted. Not only that, it has better hilarious boat-related bugs than WoW does. And WoW has had some pretty hilarious boat-related bugs.

If open world pirate games aren't your thing, you joyless human being, don't worry. We have plenty of WoW news to keep you busy. Not only is BlizzCon news still trickling in, but patch 5.4.2 is on the PTR and has some intriguing changes in store. As of this writing, there's no announced downtime for WoW, but it's never a bad idea to catch up. Read on for the usual roundup.

More Connected Realms announced for EU

realm list
The rollout of connected realms has been a little slower in the EU with only 3 connections made so far, but Blizzard has just announced a new batch of 13 connections. If you see your realm on this list and don't know what a connected realm is, it essentially connects two or more realms together so they behave as one. You can join guilds, enjoy a fuller auction house, and run raids with each other. If you have the same character name or guild name as someone from your connected realm, you will both be able to keep using your names.

I recently went through a realm connection myself and it completed without a hiccup. The problems some players on US realms Nesingway and Vek'nilash have experienced seem to be isolated incidents.

View the full list of realms after the break. Keep in mind there is currently no ETA for these connections.

More US Connected Realms on the way

realm list
Blizzard has just announced another two batches of US connected realms, and has provided a time table for the previously announced connected realms. If you see your realm on this list and don't know what a connected realm is, it essentially connects two realms so they behave as one. You can join guilds, enjoy a fuller auction house, and run raids with each other. If you have the same character name or guild name as someone from your connected realm, you will both be able to keep using your names.

The realms below are scheduled to be connected on Monday, November 4:
  • Haomarush and Detheroc/Dethecus/Blackwing Lair
  • Stonemaul and Bloodscalp/Maiev/Boulderfist/Dunemaul
  • Daggerspine and Aegwynn/Hakkar

Connected Realms: Cause for caution as characters disappear

Connected Realms Cause for caution
Many players have wondered, after the announcement of Connected Realms, and the slow creep of connections taking place, why it isn't all moving faster. Why isn't their low-population realm on the list? When can they start recruiting? Why is it all taking Blizzard so long? Are they just resting on their laurels? Are they just being lazy?

Well, I have a cautionary tale that might help to clarify the situation. Yesterday, after maintenance in the US, inhabitants of very recently connected realms Nesingwary and Vek'nilash happened upon some highly unusual issues. Players were logging in and discovering their characters were gone. Disappeared. And players who could still see all their characters on the login screen could only access a few of them.

Other players weighed in with their stories of being unable to access guild banks, guild bank logs being years out of date, and more. 14 hours later, at the time of writing, and it only seems to be getting weirder, with characters flagged for rename, and duplicates or copies of long-deleted characters starting to appear. Players are starting to panic and grabbing their names with level one alts for security. Blizzard blue Vrakthris has been doing his best to help, giving players a code to put in tickets so they could all be dealt with swiftly, but this doesn't seem like it's been resolved just yet.

Updates about US Connected Realms

realm list
The list of successfully connected US realms is growing and it's getting to be an impressive size. Blizzard's most recent update includes a complete list of existing connected realms, plus a list of the next few realms up for connection. The connections announced earlier as being scheduled for October 28th have successfully been completed. There is as of yet no concrete schedule for the other batch of known connections, but Blizzard assures us that they will announce them as their dates are finalized. The complete list of existing connected realms is after the cut:
