The Classifieds: Raiding with band members

As the story goes, Solar Wind of Dragonblight (EU-A) raids with a pair of band members from the group Area 11. Since the band is relatively new, the guild promised to use Area 11's first song, Euphemia, in a video featuring the death of Halfus. This video is the result.

I actually think the music goes surprisingly well with a raiding video. Since Area 11 creates music for anime, it's got the right kind of consistent, high-energy vibe to complement WoW raiding. It's a natural pairing.

Good luck to Area 11, and thanks for the fun video.

The Classifieds: Enrich your character history with in-game RP workshop

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable.

Pox held a roleplay workshop on Shadow Council (US-H) a few weeks ago. The feedback from the event was excellent; people came by and had a great time. The hosts were knowledgeable and helpful. These workshops look like a great opportunity to expand roleplay in the wild.
The organizers will be hold another event this weekend, March 5 at 6 p.m. Mountain time. If you're curious about the event, check out what they have to say about it:

This time, they're tackling character histories. Creating a backstory that respects WoW's huge history and lore while avoiding some of the common 'traps' and over-done character history pit-falls are just some of the topics the guild will cover. Oh, and there's cake. Lots of cake. For more info, visit www.wearepox.com. The event takes place March 5 at 6 p.m. mountain time at Thunder Bluff's bonfire. Everyone is welcome (alliance are asked to rock the scene in a Horde body).

The Classifieds: Weekly review and exploring the world

Jesse Cox has a lot of fans. Jesse's a great guy and incredibly talented; we've featured his work more than a few times around here. Jesse has a new series out in which he does a Weekly Review of the week's news. It's a pretty fun summary and is totally worth checking out.

In a similar vein, the Glitch Hunters over on YouTube have been putting together a great series featuring the landscape -- and bugs -- of Azeroth. Using methods completely available to every player of WoW, they are constantly exploring even the unintended landscapes. Balista tipped us off to these videos, saying, "Like imagine if Oxhorn was a documentary filmmaker."

The Classifieds: Stonecore is hard

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness.

The patch hasn't take place yet, so we all still get to have the fun of heroic Stonecore. Both of today's Random Acts of Uberness come from the elemental halls of that instance, where it's far too easy to die if you don't know the exact dance steps. Oh, it can be done. It can even be done relatively easily once you are familiar with the place. But it is definitely hard. If you're not familiar with Stonecore in its heroic version, check out this Queue by Alex Ziebart. You'll quickly see why it's such a challenging place and why it's the source of the uberness this week.

The Classifieds: Patch notes keep rolling

If you haven't seen them yet, check out Mr. McCurley's masterful retelling of the 4.0.6 patch notes. The upcoming release of this patch helps remind us all that we're a little more than a month into Cataclysm. How are you doing in the new content? Have you killed any bosses? Is everyone level 85?

The important thing to remember here is that everyone moves at their own pace. If your guild isn't downing bosses left and right, don't panic. Most people aren't. If you're a new guild, heavy on melee, lacking experienced raid leaders, have a weird raid composition, or any other of a billion things, don't worry. Focus on enjoying the game and just keep moving forward. Patch notes will keep rolling, you'll keep playing, and we'll all get through it together.

The Classifieds: Guild videos are awesome

Rehmaar is the guild master for <Knights of Valiant Fury> on Wyrmrest Accord (US-H). The guild is an all-blood elf roleplaying guild, and it's just getting started in the last few weeks. Rehmaar created this video from soup to nuts to help advertise his guild and get the word out about their themes and goals.

This is the sort of above-and-beyond approach that means great things about a guild. When you consider the effort that Rehmaar must have put into creating this video, you definitely get the feeling that he's willing to roll up the sleeves and really work to make <Knights of Valiant Fury> successful. Check out the guild's website if you're interested.

The Classifieds: Oxhorn runs a contest

Community contests are always exciting. Oxhorn, that mad maven of machinima, is hosting a "Marco Polo" contest. Essentially, once a week, Oxhorn will give a manly shout of "Marco" once a week. The first person to respond with "Polo," using the same social network, will win up to $30 in fabulous prizes.

This is also an interesting chance to try out Oxhorn's toolbar. The browser toolbar interacts with Oxhorn's content as well as allowing you one-click access to most social networks. It's an interesting idea, so I'm really curious to see how it turns out.

The Classifieds: Last week of the year

It's the last week of the year. Not only are we still reeling from the Cataclysm, but last week was pretty big on holiday activity. Now is the time when everyone is picking up speed, recruiting, and getting ready to do amazing things in 2011.

Of course, now is also the time to remember the villains of the last expansion. The brilliant folks over at Myndflame have created a new series of videos featuring "Arthas in real life." In this video, Arthas opens his Christmas Presents. Just remember the famous words of Deathwing to the Lich King: "Now that I rule, you're an insignificant tool!"

The Classifieds: A vacation package

If you remember Jeff Reitman from his performance at the WoW Insider BlizzCon 2010 reader meetup, then you get another chance to enjoy his comedy with his newly released video, Cataclysm Tour Guide. It's a brief video highlighting the exciting vacation packages made available with the passage of Deathwing over Azeroth's shores.

In case you're in the mood for something a little more musical, then EmberIsolte has released a new song. This is an English translation of Lament of the Highborne. EmberIsolte really gets to show off her vocal chops here, although I'll admit I prefer the in-game language for the song.

The Classifieds: A new meeting spot for guild relations

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness.

With the recent upgrade to the Blizzard and WoW community site, it looks like the old Guild Relations forum didn't make the transfer. While the Guild Relations forum didn't get a lot of press, it was a decent place to chat with other guild leaders and find a little help for troubling issues.

A few folks have begun archiving the old Guild Relations forums off site at wowguildrelations.com. It's entirely a community effort, and it will be interesting see if it turns out. Drop by the site and see if what they're doing is interesting to you.

The Classifieds: Raegwyn solos Kael'thas Sunstrider

Yesterday, the world as we knew it came to a shattering end. It's a whole new game out there, even if it's a few more weeks until Cataclysm crashes onto our desks. It's a great time to tip our hat to Raegwyn, who has released a video of his solo kill of Kael'thas Sunstrider.

The video takes place at ludicrous speed. You get a great idea of Raegwyn's technique as he maneuvers the kills. While the death knight clearly has some advantages over old raiders when the content was contemporary, this is the only solo kill of Sunstrider I can recall seeing. It's really quite the testament to Raegwyn's skill. Make sure you check out our feature interview of the solo artist to get more information.

The Classifieds: Riders of Gilead

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness. This week, we'll lead off with one of the best stories we've heard in a while.

The <Riders of Gilead> is a well established guild on the Ysera (US-A) server. They're recruiting for raids on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and use the Shroud point system for awarding loot. You can check out their web site here. This may all seem like fairly standard stuff -- but what sets them apart is their strong sense of coordination and teamwork.

Some time ago, the <Riders of Gilead> helped an old-world PUG work its way through Mount Hyjal. The raid leader was a level 71 holy paladin who seemed to really, really want to tank the content. The Riders were fine with that; it was old-world content, and the whole event was just for fun. But the paladin kept getting more and more belligerent as he repeatedly died. After all, even at level 71, a holy paladin can lack the tools to tank raid content. Finally, after a lot of wipes, the paladin got frustrated and switched away from group loot to master loot.

This wasn't an issue of loot. Hyjal loot isn't very meaningful in the Wrath era; instead, switching the loot to master loot was an insult, like throwing down a gauntlet. When Jinna, the guild leader for <Riders of Gilead>, was unable to reason with the paladin, he asked in TeamSpeak for the guild to get out of combat.

Amazingly, the entire group did so. Jinna negotiated the loot back to group loot and ended up leading the remainder of the raid. He did not kick the paladin who'd started the fight, and the PUG went on to complete the instance. Moments like these are what binds a guild together and shows why leadership is so important to a successful group. It's more than just loot; it's shared teamwork and vision.

The Classifieds: Seven hours of Gondria

The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness. This week, we'll lead off with one of the best stories we've heard in a while.

Do you know Gondria, the spectral cat of Zul'Drak? It's a rare spawn beast that is highly sought by many hunters who are looking for a truly unique pet. It can take a player months to find Gondria, and there's never any assurance that Gondria will actually be found. Unless, apparently, you have a truly awesome guild.

Solaraxe tells the story of how the guild <Circle of Blame> on Stormrage (US-H) held Gondria for over seven hours. As a team effort, they defended the cat against the Alliance and accidental death. According to Solaraxe, they eventually kited the spectral kitty all the way to Grizzly Hills, where the guild's hunter was finally able to log on and tame the coveted beast. The real trick of the story, again, is that members of <Circle of Blame> kited the kitty for seven hours.

This is truly an epic accomplishment. If finding Gondria and helping guildmates weren't enough to make it an act of uberness, the sheer timeframe of seven hours makes it amazing. My hat is off to <Circle of Blame>.
