- Revantusk Village
Revantusk Village, pictured here from the dock at sunset, is sheltered by the great Overlook Cliffs. Nestled along the shoreline, this colorful, quiet village makes a lovely casual fishing spot.
- Inside Revantusk Village
Inside the village, the trolls are pretty laid back. Sheltered as they are by natural barriers, their village is not a popular spot for Alliance raids. In fact, the citizens do little work at all, except sending Horde adventurers up and down the massive cliffs and across the province to fight their foes and recover lost items for them, of course.
- Overlook Cliffs
Gazing down the coast towards Revantusk Village on an overcast day, you can see all of the abandoned troll monuments, with unstable foundations, leaning towards the waters with a yearning that will grow over the centuries which will either see them slide into the sea at last or be buried, forgotten.
- View of the Overlook Cliffs from Lard's picnic basket
Ahh, Lard. The poor ogre lost his lunch, and he's erady to pay anyone willing to risk their lives to get it back. This is a small but iconic Horde quest; most players take the time to swing by and pick up Lard's lunch. Besides, once you've killed the troll goons, you realize what a pleasant picnic spot that tiny island makes!
- Aerie Peak
Aerie Peak is the Alliance base in the Hinterlands, and has been carved into the cliffs by enterprising dwarves. While its dark, uniform architecture lends a less vibrant and care-free atmosphere than that of the trolls of Revantusk, it is certainly more opposing to foes.
- Aerie Peak statue
The Aerie Peak statue towers above Aerie Peak. It is so high, and so proud looking, that it is difficult to see it fully. It is perhaps intended to bully foes away, who can see it from a distance. Above is a screenshot of the statue as seen from the nearby graveyard.
- Featherbeard's hovel
Featherbeard's hovel, located just outside Aerie Peak, is another curiosity that draws Horde members closer. They cautiously enter, expecting trouble, but fortunately, they find none.
- Inside Featherbeard's hovel
I know that "hovel" doesn't sound very luxurious, but Featherbeard has his tricked right out with all the amenities any dwarven bachelor could want.
- Shindigger's Camp
The Hinterlands is full of secrets, and Shindigger's Camp is one of them. Unmarked on your map and set deep into the hills, most Horde members who find this camp do so by chance, while the Alliance are given vague instructions in a quest.
- Ruppo Zipcoil's camp
Yet another of Hinterlands' secrets, Ruppo Zipcoil's camp is generally discovered by chance. Fortunately for the engineer, or a minor fortune hunter, good ol' Ruppo will hook you up with the schematic for a Mithril Mechanical Dragonling - for a small fee, of course.
- Seradane
Seradane is one of those curious level 60 endgame vanilla zones that puzzle all but the earliest WoW denizens. With an altered landscape and its own purplish aura, this area lures unsuspecting travelers across the foot bridge and into its dangerous haze.
- Waterfall and the mechanical chicken
The Hinterlands has some beautiful waterside areas. If you've been talking to Oglethorpe Obnoticus recently, you just may find yourself in the middle of a small lake, perched on a rock, attempting to revive a mechanical chicken while gazing at the scenic waterfall. It's a little odd, to be sure, but much cheerier than most quest locales.
- Ghost mushroom cave
One might be tempted to dub this the slime's cave, or make reference to its quest relevance, but among herbalists, it is known as one of the few old world ghost mushroom caves. This is the easier cave to reach, as it does not require fighting your way through Jintha'Alor.
- Agol'watha
The Hinterlands is littered with small troll ruins, guarded either by ooze mobs or more trolls. Even though the quest chains send you out to each one, they look almost exactly alike. Each site also has a habit of not having enough of the type of mob you need, prompting adventurers to camp the sites, ride back and forth between them, or move on to other ventures, if only temporarily.
- Hiri'watha
This evil troll village is one of two that will suffer from Nimboya's grim message. He refers Horde adventurers to its gates, offering a reward to any who will slaughter 20 trolls and mount their heads on a pike for the rest of the villagers to see. This quest is also a reminder not to get on the bad side of any troll acquaintances; they may seem laid back and friendly, but they do have a dark side.
- Quel'Danil Lodge
Quel'Danil Lodge doesn't look like much at first - that is, until you creep around back. The Lodge features a large, open deck, a private lake with canoes for rental, a gazebo, and even a cottage. Too bad that it is reserved for evil blood elves only.
- Shadra'Alor
Shadra'Alor is a rather large troll area, although it is hardly built up or populated when compared to Jintha'Alor.
- Altar at Shadra'Alor
A lone altar at Shadra'Alor, covered in dark ritual paraphernalia, provides a preview of what lies atop the surrounding temples.
- Jintha'Alor
Jintha'Alor is an extensive area filled with hostile trolls and boasting a long quest chain or two. Yet, the front, as pictured above, is deceiving, causing brave adventurers to storm in without realizing what they are up against.
- Flying past Jintha'Alor
The true expanse of Jintha'Alor becomes evident in one of two ways. Either you discover it the hard way while trying to push your way through, closing up your exit points as you go and surrounding yourself with enemies, or you happen to look over your shoulder while flying past it. Most players, especially in vanilla, found that they were better off doing the quests when they turned green, and ideally with a buddy or two.
