Dec 8th 2011 2:07PM You're absolutely right about varian being too orcy. The whole "anti-thrall" thing really doesn't work so well. But it's not all peaches and cream on the other side. A lot of hordies signed up on thrall's new vision of the horde we got in WC3. Now we have our own beserker in charge of thing. Garrosh is squandering our strength and straining vital friendships.
As a darkspear fanboy how am i supposed to get behind a leader my boss wants to see dead? We're sworn to follow thrall and he's gone off to be the aspect of earth. He's too big for the horde now, he belongs to the world. Do I follow garrosh simply because he'll strike me dead if i don't? Am i waiting for an opportunity to eliminate him?
Frankly I can't wait for MoP to come out and the alliance giving us everything we deserve. With a new front at play I bet you're armies will find us quite over extended. Perhaps we'll even see support from the constituent races of the horde wane so the orcs can learn they are not the entire horde. Best case scenario: our rage-aholics meet in battle and destroy each other. Then the hero you deserve can step up and we can go back to being misunderstood monsters.
The time has come for garrosh to reap what he sowed and we all stand to gain from it.
Nov 16th 2011 7:04PM Mana isn't just a sacred cow to wow. It's appeared in fantasy games since there were fantasy games. Personally i want it to stick around. It's good for new players because they've likely seen something like it before. And it's thematically important to my character who, as an arcane mage, interacts with it in a unique manner.
Aug 6th 2011 10:08AM I've stubbornly been an arcane mage this entire expansion, despite the early cries of my raid leader to go fire. Through my own ponderings and trial and error i made a spec that blends what i want when soloing and grouping. I developed a deep understanding and love of my spec that allowed me to stay competitive with the classes and specs that common wisdom deemed the best. Now that Blizz has buffed my spec to the point where fire mages feel like they need to respec (despite the damage potential being roughly the same) I'm top dog.
But back in the dark days before arcane's ascent I found myself needing a pve frost build for the occasional fight with high AoE requirements. Yes fire would have made more sense, but i do not enjoy playing fire. Ever since the changes to Arcane Explosion I haven't needed to use it.
Last night we were trying to take Beth'tilac down a peg, but every time we got to phase 2 our healers were dreadfully low on mana. I astutely noted that we had no replenishment buff. It was decided that was having said buff would solve all of our problems. When talk of finding another healer so our priest could go shadow started up, I reminded them of my PVE frost spec. I may be our top dps, but it's better for me to lose some damage than for us to replace our star healer.
It was rough. I don't find proc based rotations all that engaging. But by the end I had made up a lot of ground DPS wise. I went from #1 to #2, although the gap between the damage I was pulling was sizeable, about 7k worth. But i think that had more to do with me being geared, gemmed, and enchanted for arcane than the potential differences in the spec.
That just goes to prove what i tell all the mages in my guild. Play what you want. Don't let tiny differences in theorycrafting numbers force you into specs you don't like. If you truly enjoy a certain spec, stick with it. By using a rotation you're more engaged with you'll make up some of that difference.
Jul 19th 2011 12:10PM The incinerations will stop when we run out of warlocks to burn
Apr 29th 2011 1:42PM Before the patch i was doing 16k DPS. Now in the exact same gear I'm doing 20k. Obviously something is working ^.^
Mar 10th 2011 4:46AM The AE buff is really compelling. Keeping up that AB stack while spamming AE will add the depth we see elsewhere in arcane to its AoE. I don't think the mana increase applies to AE though. They prolly would have said "the stacking effect of AB now applies to AE" instead of just saying it increases the damage. At least that's what I hope. AE spam is far from mana neutral as it is. If they apply the mana increase as well then it'll only see use during burn phases.
Oh and Mugutu, just because YOU can't get your head around how arcane's mana burning/conserving mechanics play out and can't handle a rotation more complex than "spam fireball until hotstreak procs, rinse, repeat" doesn't make arcane a "garbage spec". Its DPS is currently within spitting distance of fire and a healthy amount above frost. A good arcane mage can currently out perform a run of the mill fire mage despite fire having the edge in dps and mobility. These buffs will just make it easier.
Jan 16th 2011 4:21PM That mana reduction to arcane blast is exactly what my arcane mage has been asking Great-Father Winter for!
