BlackBerry PlayBook reviews say that it's not an iPad killer {TUAW.com}
Apr 14th 2011 5:46PM Whenever I read these reviews of a new device coming from a company that's new to the space, I often hear reviewers use the phrase "well it's not as good as X-product from X-company, but it's just a 1.0/1st gen product, I'm sure that they'll really knock it out of the park on 2.0". I understand the need for them to placate the company that they are reviewing [since they want more review units in the future], but I wish reviewers would remember that this is now a mature category, and not coming out of the gate with a product that competes on EVERY level, is unacceptable. Just imagine a new car company bringing out a sedan without a radio, high-beams, comfortable seats, cabin heaters, only has a speedometer and gas gauge, and is a crank start engine... Sure they're all things that SOME could live without, but who would have green-lit that product to come to market.
In a world of 2nd/3rd/4th gen products [the iPad arguably even later given the previous iPod/iPhone development] there's no excuse for a 1.0 [or 0.89b] product to hit reviewers hands, let alone the retail shelves. So in short, stop reviewers, stop giving new entrants to a given category a pass. That's how crap keeps getting released.
Aluminum iMac survives fire, water {TUAW.com}
Jan 22nd 2011 2:44PM The night before last, I (accidentally) put my iPhone 3GS through a full wash cycle. When I pulled it out of the machine it was running, and after a day and a half in silica gel, it's still working great. Not as impressive as fire and firehoses, but still impressive for a little iPhone.
32 GB versus 32GB: Almost everyone is writing it wrong {TUAW.com}
Dec 16th 2010 7:41PM Has no one thought about the ability to search? When trying to use a search function on a website/search engine, try typing in "250 GB" (without the quotes), and see how well it finds a 250 GB HDD. Even with the quotations it excludes any that are formatted "incorrectly", where as sites that have the slightest search intelligence to them will ask: "did you mean 250 GB?" when typing 250GB when they have it formatted "correctly". Other than that, I wish everything was formatted correctly, and people would use language correctly.

Rumor: Hypothetical hybrid GSM-CDMA iPhone for Verizon nowhere near production {TUAW.com}

Rumor: Hypothetical hybrid GSM-CDMA iPhone for Verizon nowhere near production {TUAW.com}
Nov 12th 2009 8:29PM With Verizon committing to a rollout of LTE (4G GSM) in 2010, why would Apple develop a CDMA version to run on VZW's current network? Sprint has stated that they're going ahead with their WiMax plans, and I don't see an iPhone being developed for that.
Found Footage: TweetDeck for iPhone gets a major makeover {TUAW.com}
Nov 12th 2009 5:34AM TweetDeck even with it's reliance on AIR is hands-down my favorite desktop client, and I've used [and paid for], but I keep going to TweetDeck on the iPhone only to be disappointed time after time. It crashed 4 times while trying to set it up, and at varying steps in the process which made it hard to blame one step that I could skip in order to proceed, one of which was that unlike the desktop app, you are required to allow TweetDeck to update Facebook [if you so choose to add FB access at all], or not be allowed to continue, which was also one of my crashes...
Once set up, I did like that there were decent options, and the ability to finally add multiple twitter accounts, though the MySpace account in the desktop version is not included, admittedly not a huge deal, but notable nonetheless. The look of the Light UI option was nice, but it does feel to me like it was tossed in as an option after other twitter apps included it. In the end I find that it's with reservations added to my roster of twitter apps for the iPhone that will actually remain on my iPhone [if it remains crash free]. If TweetDeck adds push notifications, It'll be my primary twitter app for the iPhone too.

Ouch! Nokia suing Apple over iPhone tech {TUAW.com}
Oct 22nd 2009 1:11PM The statement of "Apple has not adequately compensated the firm", seems to imply that Apple has paid Nokia, but that Nokia now wants more.
