5 not-so-simple ways Blizzard can fix the World of Warcraft Auction House {WoW}

Feb 22nd 2012 11:27AM @Phos--

"directly related to the amount of effort one puts into earning said money"

I do not mean to denigrate your hard work and achievements, because that's indeed awesome and I don't at all claim you don't deserve it. But what planet do you live on where that happens for everybody?

I paid for my own schooling through academic scholarships, made great grades except for the semester I was struggling with my mental health, had excellent internships, and have worked exactly ONE full-time job since graduation because the economy in my area is so stagnant. I'm not qualified for unemployment because I was harangued into quitting said job by a boss who wanted to put his favorite underling in my position and couldn't find justification to fire me. I haven't worked since because nobody's hiring entry-level people and my excellent internships and one job I've had don't count as enough experience. I've just NOW saved up enough money (through part-time temp work) that I can move to an area with a slightly better economy and HOPE that I can find work before my savings run out.

Quite frankly, insinuating that "you only don't have money because you don't work hard enough" is a flagrant insult to me and the countless others who are in dire straits because of -- guess what! -- the irresponsible actions of people at the top of the food chain with more money than sense, who supposedly "worked hard to get there". The real world is BY NO MEANS a level playing field, and I absolutely do get more reward for effort vs. people who put in less in WoW than I do on Earth.

Feb 21st 2012 4:32PM And yes, I'm aware gold buying/selling exists in game now. But it's comparitively low because most people are aware it's dangerous and harmful to other players (or, at the very least, they know they'll likely be punished for it). The existence of a black market and a Blizzard-sanctioned system with no incentives NOT to use it are two very different things.

Feb 21st 2012 4:30PM I'm not talking about it being good or bad for Blizzard. I'm talking about it being shitty for me. Blizz so far has not COMPLETELY gone up the river of cash over customers, and I have hope they'll at least wait until I get to see Pandaria before doing so.

Feb 21st 2012 4:14PM Point 5 will always be wrong, bad, and quite frankly may make me leave the game.

Gold can be traded for items that increase combat capabilities. Blizz so far has been great about ONLY selling cosmetic vanity items for Real Money. As a player with very little extra cash to spend, I've always appreciated Azeroth as the one place I would be (mostly) judged by my effort and skills and not how much money I could throw at stuff -- the closest thing to a level playing field I'm likely to find in everyday life.

I spend enough of my life being screwed over in favor of people with more money than me. For the love of pants, don't bring it to WoW.

Jan 16th 2012 11:52AM There have been very good crafted items in the raids; a couple of my BIS pieces last tier and this one were from the epic patterns dropped in raids. Even now I'm trying to find someone to make me the crafted mail bracers from Dragon Soul, since the patterns haven't been dropping for crap for my guild. :P

Jan 4th 2012 4:46PM Well, to clarify, I'm in a very small guild that runs 10-mans and we're still working on regular Madness due to a lot of roster shifting after Firelands. I'm not being taken because we usually have anywhere from 5-7 DPS online, and I'm consistently on the bottom, and we need our top DPS to come anywhere close to succeeding.

I've consistently been one of my guild's highest DPS since Karazhan. Nothing about my dedication or amount of study into my class has changed since then. I follow the best known and available information about rotations, gear, stats etc. just like I always have. In this patch, I've gone from "usually in top 2, always competitive" to "almost always dead last." And I know other hunters who are as good as or better than me who've seen the same thing happen. If it was just me, nearly the entire hunter community wouldn't be complaining about it.

Jan 4th 2012 3:07AM ... Deathwing weapons?

You mean the polearm that's about a 1% DPS upgrade, and the bow that would be about a 2% DPS upgrade IF THE PROC WAS ON MELEE HIT AND CRIT RATINGS INSTEAD OF SPELL, which it isn't?

The Deathwing weapons I can't get because, in comparable gear, my DPS is so consistently lower than my guildies (rogues, warlocks, ONE legendary-wielding mage) that I'm not getting TAKEN to the freaking Madness fight?

Yeah, THOSE weapons are going to fix everything.

I don't mind our damage being low -- everyone eats the ugly end of the nerf-bat from time to time -- I'm just sick of devs and people who don't play hunters constantly insisting to me that my class is just fine when my experience and that of 95% of hunters I know says otherwise.
