Jul 8th 2010 2:40PM Except they do use the forums to get some idea of what their players want, and how they feel about the game and changes they make to it. The reason they make so much money is because they know what fans want. If they cut out that input their product will suffer, and they know it.
If they wanted the forums to die they wouldn't bother with this RealID thing since it's going to take money and manhours to create the new forum with the new system. Why go through that when you could just kill the forum yourself? The fact that they are TRYING this means they WANT the forums to succeed.
Jul 7th 2010 6:07PM I've known plenty of cases of online relationships (friendship, "lovers", affairs, or what have you) that turned to out of game stalking. Usually this has only involved email or IM'ing the other person incessantly...but this could easily take it to the next level.
Not to mention the fact that we've already had at least one case of people being KILLED because they ninja'd some item someone else wanted. Now, obviously, these people already knew each other at least enough to find each other...but now imagine being able to open that up to the dude you just pugged with. Or the guy who can't take criticism or anything on the forums. There are a lot of psycho's out there....and with as many subscribers as Blizz has, a great deal of them are playing this game.
Of course, I'll just avoid the forum, so no biggie for me. I don't think Blizz employees should have to post under their real names...but then, I don't think anyone should have to. But none of them are going to leave their jobs with BLIZZARD (*insert wet dream for half of WoW players*) over it, and it's pretty silly that people suggest that's really an option. Silly people.
Jul 7th 2010 5:48PM While I'm hoping that Blizz changes this so that our last names won't be included, the bottom line a lot of people are missing is: who gives a crap about the official forums? They suck anyway. Stop using them when the change goes through. No biggie. If the forum dies out, Blizz will be forced to decide whether to keep it that way, or change how they work it. THAT is the power of consumers. Don't like something? Quit using it.
Now, I realize we're not -paying- for the forums...but still. Blizz WANTS people to use the forums. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is a direct attempt at driving the trolls away so that normal semi-mature people can enjoy the forums too. It's a poor attempt imho, but it's still proof that Blizz doesn't want us to all leave the forums.
Blizz isn't stupid. They know that the loud angry shouting voices on their forums, while they might be the ones they see the most, they also know that those are not representative of ALL or even most of their consumers. If that were the case WoW wouldn't be half as casual-friendly as it is now. They will realize that their forums are dying specifically because of this. They will recognize that the voices of reason have vanished. You won't lose your voice just by not posting on the forum. Hell...for that matter...I'm sure some of Blizz's devs visit some of these other sites and listen to what's being posted on their forums.
May 16th 2010 6:34PM Oh man....I hadn't thought of that...maybe that's why the Park is gone...
May 16th 2010 5:32PM I sometimes fear that the empty buildings are more 'placeholders' for possible future content (ie. for future profession trainers, etc.) rather than purposefully left empty for rp'ers. One of my fears is that when they remake Azeroth most of these places won't be so empty...and thus we rp'ers will have fewer places to do our thang.
Just look at Outland...lots of barren empty places...but nothing rp-friendly at all...the fricken World's End Tavern doesn't even have usable chairs! WotLK was a little better. If you can get past the horrible lag (and hopefully Cata will help with that some), Dalaran has some good taverns. But no empty buildings. Some of the Northrend towns would be good for rp'ing...as long as you can get people to them. I just hope this is a sign that Blizz IS keeping rp'ers in mind, at least a little, rather than just incidentally/accidentally.
Please don't make Azeroth bland, Blizzard!
we've already seen from the leaked photos that the Park, which is chalk full of empty rp spots, and is only really used by Rp'ers and druids, is destroyed. Hopefully they open up as many rp spots as they destroy...but somehow I doubt it.
Jan 23rd 2010 6:28PM I'd be really curious to know where you get all of them with English subtitles...the most I've found are a few places with a couple of episodes, mostly season 2. I'd really like to catch this series from beginning onward.
Jan 23rd 2010 6:26PM ....how about with English subtitles? ...or English menus so I can figure out what order they're in?
Dec 22nd 2009 11:40AM I never liked Shatt...even empty. I mean, here's this giant city where Blizz had tons of opportunity to throw in some nice rp nooks and crannies....and you can't even SIT IN THE CHAIRS. WTF. Even in the tavern where the band plays...no usable seats. It's a huge empty space full of huge unadorned and uninteresting rooms.
Most of the rp Ally side is at the Blue Recluse or one of the other taverns in SW. There's some in IF, but in general if people go somewhere other than SW to rp it's because they're doing a private thing, not because they're looking for people to rp with. But if we're just talking about places to rp with your friends there are -tons- of places..and most of the best ones aren't in cities. Cities tend to just be good places to meet other people and have casual rp...
I actually had to change a lot about my character just to rationalize a reason why she would go into a tavern, let alone spend a ton of time in a crowded city, just because I wanted to rp. It's pretty difficult to just 'find' rp out in the wilderness. ^^
Sep 10th 2009 11:19PM "Obviously, a few things have been added to the maps, including quest icons...."
Okay...I'm clearly missing something. I remember Blizz SAYING that quest objectives and such would become available...I even remember seeing a picture of it....but it never went active...or if it did I sure don't see them...or where to activate them in the options. I never heard anything further about it until the above comment...which makes it sound as if it did go live....
May 3rd 2009 12:57AM I'd heard rumors of BG's where horde and allies worked together to get the achievement. Every one I went into I -attempted- to foster the same atmosphere with lots of /wait, /point @ orphan, /beg, /cheer. etc. What did I get for this effort? Death. Death. and more death. I did finally get the achievement, but the only one where the horde and I worked together was me and a moonkin in a tower in AV.
In WSG it was darn right infuriating. At one point I was alone in the flag room with my orphan. I donned my Murloc Costume and ran around emoting..trying to look as non-aggressive as possible...DK walks in. Looks at me. Dead. Takes flag. I rez. Rogue ganks me before I can move anywhere. I just about threw my mouse and keyboard out the window at that one.
Even after I got the WSG achievement the horde in my battlegroup were not interested. Rather than abandoning the game the instant I got my flag recap like so many others, I decided to finish out the game. We were losing terribly. I found myself in the horde flag room and there were 4 hordies sitting there with orphans out. I figured, well hell, they're clearly going to win anyway...so I popped down there in stealth...threw a few emotes out to let them know I wasn't sneaking up on them, and popped out a few feet from the flag. I didn't even have a chance to grab the flag and drop it for them...they killed me. How dumb can you get? Didn't even let me grab it so that ONE of them could get the achievement. *shrug* Anyway...that's how it's been pretty much the whole time in my battlegroup.
I hated this achievement. I hate pvp and I suck at it. I was only in those BG to get my achievement so I could move on with my life and leave the pvpers alone for the rest of the year. Horribly designed and not at all thought-out.
