Dec 3rd 2008 9:08AM I haven't seen a tanking shortage in many many months, pre-Wrath even. the shortage is, and continues to be, and is getting worse -- healers.
The mechanics for healing are boring, they are generally lousy solo classes, and even if you dual/respec, the groups are loath to give DPS (or tank) items to a class that is healing on the run.
It might improve after several months of 80s on the servers, as people level 2nd and 3rd alts to the end game. Also, people will take the path of least resistance and level healers to get into raids... but at the moment, its piles of tanks and DPS all fighting over healers in guild, and in LFG.

Nov 5th 2008 10:41AM Kirin Tor represent! Blacksky Company has returned to 25 man raiding leading up to the expansion. Last week we fully cleared SSC and nailed Vashj finally w/ the 3.0 changes, and started clearing The Eye. This week we downed Kael Thas for a guild first and are now working our way through Black Temple -- Najentus, Supremus, Akama, and Bloodboil are now down. We hope, with focus, to get to Illidan before the raid resets next Tuesday! We have typically failed the gear checks due to our casual nature, but have always done well with the coordination fights...I think we're proving it now in the lolraid environment (e.g. you still have to execute the strategy, just alot more leeway on the DPS/healing mix).
Oct 30th 2008 3:46PM By eliminating the class ghetto forums, they're trying to enforce their supposed design view in a forum structure -- whether its a reality or not. News to blizzard -- I don't tell people that I play a healer, i tell people that i play a paladin; i don't tell people that I'm melee DPS, i tell them that i play a fury warrior.
I've suspected for some time that Blizzard was losing the class balancing battle for WotLK, and this move smacks of desperation to me. yes, you might *tell* us that classes should be equal amongst roles, but its very hard to do and we're going to call you on it when you failr to live up to YOUR stated design principles. Having 9 classes that can DPS all be roughly equal is probably an impossibility; but you never should have promised balance to begin with.
Oct 27th 2008 10:46AM Its a very, very bad time to be a pally. We're faced with 3 specs, which are all pretty much worst-in-class for their intended roles come 3.0.2. -- especially @ 80.
Holy paladins are already the worst of the 4 healers as of late Tier 5 content. Nothing provided in the expansion fixes their lack of HoTs, ability to heal on the move, or AoE heals (Beacon of Effective Healing is great for 5mans, but rapidly becomes a glorified single target offheal as you can never use it on a tank). Mana efficiency has gone out the window, no downranking and now the judgement 'fixes'. People should note that the ret fixes to JotW were not so much for ret paladins, but for holy paladins specing deep ret since they could heal better this way. THOU SHALL ALWAYS SPEC 51 POINTS IN YOUR TALENT TREE, THUS SPAKE KALGAN.
Prot paladins, while awesome and fun, are still in deep trouble. With their AOE abilities spread to all the other classes now, but still having an inherent 5-10% stamina penalty (due to talents and itemisation), they're not the prefered choice to raid tanking. Again, nice option for 5 mans, but I can think of lots of reasons why a Warrior, Druid, or Deathknight will be ahead of them in the tanking order. The ret nerfs to DPS also directly affect prot threat, which means they're gimped contrasted to druids and warriors too in this regard.
And retadins. Overpowered at 70 yes (although really only in burst for pvp), but even before these nerfs they were middling at 80 in equal gear to other classes. Its 2.0 all over again, end game ret will be non-existent. The nerfs to damage I can understand, but the nerfs to mana efficiency are so over-the-top I have to believe the class designers failed grade 3 math. OOM at 30 secs if you use all your abilities, if you limit yourself you can go for about 2-3 mins before needing a pot. The spec is almost immediately unviable...except in pvp, where fights are short. The irony here is painful.
I'm sick of this 'over buff, nerf to the ground, build back up' cycle. I'll wait to see what actually goes live on Tuesday, but my paladin will be effectively shelved if the current beta patch changes are what's going live.
Oct 23rd 2008 5:18PM My retribution paladin shall provide an honour guard for Ahab tonight, both in the memory of Ezra and in defiance of the waves of scourge that threaten his avatar.
Oct 16th 2008 12:37PM Its an immediate 200+ DPS nerf. It should be noted that retadins, pre-nerf hotfix last night, were still at the bottom of the melee DPS tree @ 80 in naxxramas. So we're nerfed at 70, and nerfed at 80. In terms of 'paladins dominating the battlegrounds non-stop since hte patch'...correlation does not equal causation. Every paladin in the game wanted to try the new DPS spec, so there's a sudden burst in online play. Also, not being able to ignore a ret is a sudden shock to anyone who hasn't played in the beta. I'm not overly disappointed with the changed; I expected something (although the nerfs to judgements is like using a chainsaw to cut your toenails)... I just figure at this point Blizzard has 0% credibility on ANYTHING related to the paladin class. "We'll fix the HoT/movement/AOE heal situation"...we get Beacon of Effective Healing. "Protadins should be main tank capable"...except we give all the other classes your AOE abilities, and penalise you 5% stamina. And now LOLRet2.
Oct 14th 2008 3:12PM What about 'Of the Shattered Sun' title? Guessing it would be retired, I bought it as a memento of patch 2.4 on an alt that wouldn't get Champion of the Windchimes in time.

I hate to tell you, but with rested bonus and a top-off of XP from the fire festival, i'm going to hit 70 on my new warlock by only doing Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, and Terrokar (and the instance quests in those zones). Its *already* easy to hit 70. Heck, even at patch 2.0.1 I hit 70 on my huntard w/o doing SMV at all.
This XP bonus just gets people to the new content faster, and offsets the lack of instancing 60-70 once Northrend opens up.
