Aug 26th 2008 12:41PM #89, cleaning up trade so it can be used is not synonymous with banning all social chat or even just the idiotic stuff.

Moderate /2 and let /1 run wild. Have fun everyone!

For now, I just find two or three enchanters and put them on my friends list. When I need something, I whisper one and get it. Other than that, I sell exclusively on AH and mostly miss all chat opportunities to buy, sell or give help and advice -- which is sadly an aspect of the game I miss. Sometimes I have to turn on /2 to find a new source, but you can often find that by PSTing a few people in AH or the bank.

Really, I have a hard time understanding how making /2 viable is not a good idea for almost everyone.

Aug 26th 2008 12:33PM Tridus, I am not on the "internet". I access a private server via the internet but I am not out "there" surfing the free net. And yeah, I think my quality of experience could be improved by removing all spam from /2.

Aug 26th 2008 12:21PM Tangle bones and Neereza, it's great that you guys do your part to report but let's face it, that does not help the immediate problem. If you want to use /2 and there is current tear on the latest fad joke, you are screwed. And since sending a report eventually requires a GM to investigate it, why not have that GM working real-time?

Sure, maybe a new option to report would be useful. Such reports could go to a designated GM who would have to give them a priority and thus be capable of removing spammers from /2 while they are spamming. But arguing details is pointless as Blizzard can work it out. They just need to do something.

Aug 26th 2008 12:16PM and to Neofox below ... nice to see that nearly 60 comments into this someone finally starts talking about other channels but you are slightly off.

S10th, the /1 or General channel already exists and was allegedly abandoned by the spammers when they realized their only audience on that channel was other spammers. The real population they wanted to target was in /2. Hence they invaded it. So there is a channel the spammers can have but we would still need a moderator to force them into it and out of /2.

Neofox, same thing. We still need a realtime way to remove spammers from /2.

Aug 26th 2008 12:11PM Tom, my problems are Blizzard's because I pay for the service ... and if enough like-minded people perceive this as a problem -- which I dare say they do -- then Blizzard has a big problem. The amount doing anything about this would cut into the 520 million is not going to slow down a damn thing and, as I have said before, give the spammer /1 and return /2 to those who want to play the game.

Aug 26th 2008 12:06PM Uh, yeah actually, I do. I think Blizzard is so damn profitable that to add a one moderator to every realm (and the proposal was for peak playing time but I say four 6 hour shifts to make it full time) is not at all unreasonable. They can backfill their time by answering tickets.

Aug 26th 2008 11:57AM Adroit, you are completely wrong. You pay to play the game and if the majority of players want the spammers out of /2 then they should be kicked out of the channel or otherwise controlled. This is not the free internet.

Ignore is not a suitable tool to control spam in /2 and does not effectively reduce spam to make /2 useable when the idiots are in full flight.

That being said, I'd be happy to turn off /1 and leave that channel to the spammers to dominate. I see no reason why both camps cannot be accommodated.

Aug 26th 2008 11:50AM Luciferkrist, thanks for your useless post. His point about parental control and the possibility of /2 being perceived as egregiously harmful to wholesome American youth is intelligently aimed at Blizzard's perception of future profits. Get a good mid-West rally going against WOW for being "evil" and it will hurt their share holders which is enough good reason to moderate /2 which in turn will get the idiots out of /2 which is what I want because they are not easily ignored when you have to scroll through all that crap to find a tell for an enchant you want or are vainly hoping that someone sees your plea hidden amongst the fast scrolling crap. BTW, did I say thanks for your useless post?
