Mar 2nd 2012 1:53AM RTS games aren't out of style, their just not getting made because they aren't the money cows that MMOs are (and other games are being mutated into). The publishers are only interested in backing properties that push subs or DLC, and an RTS doesn't lend itself to that. It might be a great RTS, but I will never even consider it because (a) I don't play strategy games online and (b) I will never pay a recurring fee for a single-player or LAN experience. In any case, mixing two fundamentally opposing genres is always a mistake and if there's no offline option for EoN it will fail like all the others that have tried.

From what I understand they took some of the most popular suggestions from the forums, threw in some of the dev's own ideas and put it before the playerbase. I hope this is a new trend.
Feb 25th 2012 8:41PM @Space Cobra : agreed. I think people are so desperate for something a bit different that their letting the hype carry them away. I've yet to see any hard details about these so-called innovations in GW2, just lots of promises and marketing-speak. Why is it taking so long? Could it be that, just like with TOR, features are being chopped and shelved for later inclusion in the cash shop, and therefore everything is being rebalanced? That's my suspicion.

I greatly dislike the limit on how many of your abilities you can "equip" at one time - I won't play any game that handicaps itself like this (and consoles be damned). This makes no sense to me or anyone I know, RL or online. I'd rather have a job change system like FFXI or plain old skill trees. When you can fill a missing slot in your "trinity" with an NPC hireling there's no downside to specialization.
