Breakfast Topic: When they are not prepared {WoW}

Feb 10th 2008 9:44AM Buff runs for alts and twinks is Ok... For new players I say no also... I have 3 low-mid level alts (22,37,43) that I almost only play when helping a new player run an instance... When someone new to our guild and new to game asks for a run through instance I say no, but I will bring one of my alts... New Players learn NOTHING by buff runs - except how to do an end run around the game... That said - I am guilty sometimes of doing this (Stockades in 12 min lol)... Even on my alts - I like to run SM and ZF with a pug (And I havent run ST, mara, or BRD since 2.0)...

For the most part, instances are where you learn to PVE... You learn about aggro(how to keep it and how not to get it)... You learn about spell rotation, mana management, kill order, MMORPG team work, CC etc etc etc... Instances are optional for leveling - there are plenty of quests for xp and blue loot isnt needed to play the game...

As for learning how to play class, my biggest pet peeve is players leveling with a PvP spec (on PvP server) and complaining they have a hard time questing... Not saying it cant be done - just not as easy/fast... I see the game as starting in outlands, 0-58 is learn to play time...

Gold is another huge thing... I was in a guild that helped people buy first mount a long time ago... At the time it seemed like a good idea, but a mount is the first test of whether you understand economics of WoW... I saw too many players decked out in Boe blues with enchants and no money at 20-50 cause they didnt need to save anything... (this lead to a /gquit)... Now when someone wants money for mount, I ask there prof and suggest where to go to make money (and recomend auctioneer)...

All that said, the game is HUGE is size and knowledge... I cant imagine starting to play now and learning it all! If you ask me a question I will answer it, but no free lunch from me!

A "meta" class for WoW {WoW}

Jan 30th 2008 6:05PM Psionics?

Gold farmers try to take their game onto guild web sites {WoW}

Jan 22nd 2008 8:08PM Enough Already Blizzard... You cant beat them... Blizzard has made gold so easy to get inflation is insane... Primals Air/Fire/Water are up from 15g to 20g in a few months (on my low pop server at least)... Why, one word, Dailies!!! Gold is so easy to get ingame once you get to 70 now, this drives up prices due to high cash supply in game...

The only thing left to do is to let people buy gold... I went to a gold website just now and price for my server was $20 = 500g... Blizzard should just undercut them and sell gold to people who want it (along with lowering cost of epic flying mounts mounts)... This will drive gold farmers out of business... I dont think anything else will get rid of them... It is like any black market, it will adapt to whatever changes you make, but make it legal and undercut the black market and it will go away... Really, what is wrong with blizzard selling gold if people wanna pay for it... You dont have to buy gold, it is easy to get at level 70...

Blizzard make PvP season1 epics easy to get - I partly think this was also a way to combat goldfarmers since you cannot "sell" honor - Unlike BOE tier 4 equvialants! We are still dealing with the fallout of honorfarming (it is become as big a sin as gold farming in some eyes)

Blizzard has made many parts of the core game easier lately - but not getting your first mount - I challenge anyone to roll on a new server and level with enough for a mount at level 40... Let someone buy 100g for $5 or whatever...

FACT - The market exists... People buy gold now... Why not sell it to them yourself?

I think whatever game eventually succeeds WoW as the number one MMORPG will have to have some $$ to gold conversion..

BTW I have never bought gold, but I dont think it is that big a shame... I try to avoid sites that advertise gold...

AFK punishment is still just a band-aid {WoW}

Jan 12th 2008 8:34PM I have said it before...

Give us alternative ways to get epics... Blizzard favors PvP and Raiders... Not crafters and questers... Arena gear though BG's is a huge buff for PvPers in general... Imagine if Blizzard gave all crafting professions 5-piece craftable gear for every spec... Of course that would make money for gold farmers...

Why there won't be a flood of death knights {WoW}

Jan 12th 2008 12:59PM You forgot to mention one thing we all know...

Death Knights will be broken when WOTLK ships... There will be many nerfs and buffs as people QQ that DK are OP or not... The result will be a huge change in how the class feels with each patch... 4.1 is gonna be all about fixing DK... It is like when a new model car comes out, for the first few years they work out the kinks... Blizzard will rely on the masses to test DK... Balancing in the 9 existing classes still goes on 3+ years out... Players want every spec viable for PvE and PvP and Blizzard does its best... No about of Beta WOTLK will make up for unleashing millions players playing DK's, grouping with them or PvPing against them...

The other issue I have is theorycraft... We all know that there are certain ways to correctly spec and gear... There are many web based references (cough-ElitestJerks-cough) that have figured out how to maximize every class... Those 9 other classes will dominate DK's who are still trying to figure out how to spec!!! Nothing beats experence - both as a player of a class and the communatey at large...

Just because DK is a hero class doesnt mean it is an OP class... Raiding guilds will stay with what they know, same toons no DK... There will be so much Warrior and Pally QQing about DKs, that if anything I think they will be a bit of a novilty for a while - Nilihum will beat WOTLK in a 3 or 4 months without DKs (you heard it here first)....

The one thing I hope blizzard DOESNT do is make DK mandatory for some encounters...Either because of a spell only they have can weaken a monster (etc) or Lore wise a DK is required to summon something... This would ruin the game as this kind of mechanism doesnt exist now...

I will probably roll one right away to see what it is about, then abandon the class for at least 3 months to let the bugs work out...

Breakfast Topic: The stealth /gquit and other lost art forms {WoW}

Jan 11th 2008 10:12AM While not a /gquit story....

After getting tired of guild drama related to raiding(we cleared kara and were trying to expand guild to do 25 mans), and because all my alts were in the guild, I wanted to roll a new alt (and a new class)for a break from guild... After about 15 minutes in the starting area, I was like "I hate alliance starting areas - I have leveled many times in them and it is boring"... Character deleted and rolled a horde... After another 15 minutes I was like "I have never been on a PvP server wonder what it would be like"... So I rolled on a PvP server and havent been back since... New server(low pop) + New faction + New class = New game... I never /gquit and my old toons are still in the guild (I think) I have never logged back on to them or explained on guild website what happened - I just vanished... This was about 2 months ago - right after 2.3... I am enjoying the game again and will never raid again (ok never say never)... I do feel bad sometimes and do sneak back to guild website and read about guild progress, but my absence has never been brought up in forums there and there are no PM for me so???

Breakfast Topic: Quitting battlegrounds {WoW}

Jan 6th 2008 9:55AM The battleground honor system is broken and all attempts to fix it just make it worse. There are a couple of obvious flaws to the "IDEA" of battlegrounds and their rewards.

Flaw one - Learning curve... PvP is not a requirement for leveling, yet with NO PvP skills you can queue for BG... And then face off against PvP pros (With much better gear) and have a horrible experience... Strategy is a huge thing and there is no in game mechanism to help with strategy (I dont know how this would work but all we got is chat and a map)

Flaw two - Welfare Items (IE why most people BG)... Not just epics, but at every level there is some item for most classes (Physical DPS espcially) that "seem" so easy to get by BGing... Why is there no level 19 twink items from questing, crafting(BOP) or Rep? True there are rewards and drops from instancing, but in all level brackets there are many items for most classes that have no equivilant(low level jewelery).

Flaw three - Season one items now buyable with honor makes most tier 4 equivilant seem too expensive - most players would rather Farm AV for 8 hours than spend 1000g (more or less) on a similar BOE item or run heroics for Primal nether etc...

Flaw four - BG's are the one of the only place Gold Buyers cannot corrupt... Blizzard likes this...

Flaw five - There is no down side. They dont cost money. (Except arrows and reagants etc) Honor and marks only cost time and in AV at least even lossing makes it worth it.

As for the battlegrounds, AV never worked right - It wanted to be too many things. I like the "game" of WSG and AB better but I AV for the honor...

Blizzard favors raiders and PvPers over all others... I dont play Arena and I quit raiding, so Tier 4 equivilants are the most I will see... The real fix for BG's is to make them less manditory... This is done buy making compareable rewards that are attainable for a compareable amount of work... Crafting is one big way to fix this, and not just at level 70... Why are there no BOP rare items while leveling crafting? BOP tailoring should be seen as a template for all other crafting - a three piece set that is EQUAL OR SUPERIOR to tier 4... Engineers get one helm each that needs a primal nether, LW BOP is sets are not as good as our new easy to get Season one gear... The best quest rewards require long chains and/or groups and they still are not good enough... Rep rewards require a huge amount of Time - way more that Bging... Badge of Justice Reward system is a good anti-PVP...

In the spring 2007, my old guild started raiding kara 2 nights a week... The other 5 nights were spent usually in BG's or Arena teams for welfare epics... This was STANDARD RAID GEARING for most guilds... I hope I dont need to explain how backwards this is!

How many people would queue if THERE WERE NO REWARDS? IE play for fun. Maybe 10%

As for me, new server and new faction... And when my level 60 rogue hits 70 - I am sad that the most best casual gear is from comes from Battlegrounds. I will probably be there!

Thank you Blizzard..

PS - I like the 20-29 bracket still, the last 6 toons I have leveled I have "soft twinked" at 29(Best boe greens and no enchants) and been competative in both WSG and AB. While there are Twinks at 29 they are only 15-25% most of time.

Breakfast Topic: Attractive men {WoW}

Jan 4th 2008 8:23AM Imagine If the Post was "Attractive Women", think of all the outrage you would get from women... Rightly so... Body models in all computer/video games are man made and idealized... We live in a time when everything is suposed to be "sexy" according to Media/Hipsters/etc... I won't Rant on about this....

Breakfast Topic: The perfect group {WoW}

Jan 3rd 2008 9:51AM For speed runs (ie Kara attuning, Badges farming, gearing alts and new guild members) - Usually we have 3+ with tier 4 (or equiv) or better gear... We run fast and in control (Shattered halls in 40 min... Heroic Mech in 60)... We have a core group of maybe 10 people each with multiple toons but this would be the "ideal" party...

Pally healer - Some say the best 5-man healer... Salvation makes this almost a must (unless Pally tank i guess)... Should have 11 points in prot to put BOK on tank... Should never go OOM may only need to drink after boss fights... I guess Tree Druid is next best healer...

Shadow Priest - PW:FORT... Mana regen for all casters (which is all the DPS)... Passive Healing(when needed)... Steady consistant good DPS.. PW:Shield (emergency use only)... MC if needed...

Affliction Lock - Blood Pact... Soul Stone (Wipes happen)... More of a Boss killer than a trash sweeper... Dots are great for multi mob pulls... Benifits from Shadow Priest Debuff... Lock and Shadow priest are made to go together...

Mage (Fire or Frost) - Arcane Brilliance... AOE... High DPS... Sheep if needed... This I would call the FIFTH spot in our groups, this is where a rogue/hunter etc would go although a Moonkin or Elemetal Shammy benifits more from this group (and benifit the group).

Druid Tank - Tanking ability is more important than class... I like running with Druid for a few reasons... High hit points help when tanking multiple mobs... MOW is a nice buff (Alone this doesnt make them a better tank)... Favorite thing is that between pulls (not every pull), tank dropping feral and throwing a few small heals around to stop down time eating (or wasting healers mana)... Even though Pallies are great tanks - they drink too much... A good Warrior tank can be just as good/fast as a druid (I just like the bear)...

The 5 Specs I have listed all benifit each other... This is a "MANA 5 MAN BUILD" and phyiscal DPS classes dont benifit from mana users and are no benifit for mana users (IE a Mage and a rogue may work well with each other but nether benifits from the other)... Our goal is mainly speed (we all know the encounters)... That means almost no CC and lots of time in combat... The only other real concern is survivability and dealing with the odd "OH SHIT"... Shadow priests can heal if they need to, Holy pally can "Tank" a mob if needed, Mages have Frost nova and locks bring the Soulstone...

All classes and builds (even ret pally lol) are viable if played and geared well.

I am either the pally, priest or frost mage.

The only other comment I can make is that 2 hunters is usually trouble... When traps release, there are often hunters kiting mobs around (one example that healers and tanks hate)... Hunters are one of the best solo classes and have many bad habits that are bad in instances... That said, I know many great hunters.

Breakfast Topic: Leveling to 80 {WoW}

Sep 5th 2007 9:00AM My thought is this.....

Is anyone considering switching mains? Basically a toon who just dinged 70 will be on equal ground with a raider 70 after a few weeks into WotLK. The game will basically reset for all those at 70.
