May 18th 2007 11:38AM I played the beta for the first time last night and was very impressed. Being a "first impression is the best impression" kind of guy, I can say with a bit of confidence that this game will live up to the hype.
I was playing on a hitachi 42" plasma about 5 feet away from the screen. The lighting effects are clearly a vast improvement over halo 2. Do not judge the game's graphics based on a crappy flash video. Wait until you see it yourself on a plasma or lcd HD TV and then become a critic. I watched that video while I was downloading the beta last night and though "meh" myself...
but after firing it up and playing it in HD... I had the feeling that every Halo fanboy out there will be more than satisfied with the visual quality of this game.
Personally I was more impressed with: 1. The new button layout and how it changed the game play. 2. the overall speed seemed to be increased (slightly. I have no facts supporting this, it just felt a smoother and quicker in general.) 3. the quality of the sound.
More specifically on #3 - The echoing of the sniper rifle was just incredible.
Apr 9th 2007 12:06AM I agree with Dave - Post #10 wholeheartedly. Great post.
Feb 23rd 2007 1:07PM Speaking of degrees of seperation... out of myself and three of my buddies from my college days (we are all late 20's) we have had a combined total of six systems fail. four people, six failed systems. I am on my third system. I purchased my original less than a year ago. One of my friends who has had two of his systems fail on him has yet to send back his second failed unit. He doesn't even want to deal with it.
Dec 19th 2006 4:07PM There is one reason that I will not be purchasing a PS3. This same reason is why I went ahead and purchased a 360 a year ago:
The way that Live is integrated into every aspect of the console sells me on the 360. The UI, the friends list, the voice chat, the arcade games, etc. I am a social gamer. I only enjoy playing alone occasionally, but I prefer to play games with other people. The competition is what drives me. The 360 is build around social gaming and compeition (i.e. leaderboards.) I know sony will offer some of these features, but as of this year, this is the first generation of consoles where I will not purchase all three systems. The PS3 does offer a lot of bells and whistles, and I am drawn to that, but until they build an online playground that compares to Live, I'm sorry Sony, but I'm sitting this round out. It's very expensive and not much better than the competition in my opinion. Not enough to warrant an extra $200.
Dec 18th 2006 9:38PM This is actually the first place I come every day for gaming news...
Dec 6th 2006 10:31PM The first and only computer game I have ever played has been on my mac. that game is world of warcraft. I was a late bloomer into this game. Its actually the first RPG I have ever played and I am in my mid 20's. Mostly a sports and FPS 360 gamer, this is way out of my realm.
I bring this up to prove a point. The first computer game I have ever purchased was for the mac, and that game has not only opened my eyes to a whole new genre of games, but also to a whole new platform. I know this game is also available for a PC, but my PC is old and aging. My powerbook G4 gets the job done nicely. So I guess for me... gaming on the Mac just started.
Dec 5th 2006 7:06PM I purchased a Hitachi 42" Plasma in September and have been extremely happy with it. It's very pricy, but worth every dollar I spent.
I researched Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony for about a month. After my research I actually went into the store planning on walking out with a Panasonic Plasma, but after seeing the Hitachi in person I had to leave the store and think about it for another week.
I feel I made the right decision. Nothing compares to a the crispness of a plasma IMO. I have heard about burn in, but so far have had no problems whatsoever. I mainly play sports, clancy, and FPS games on it (xbox 360), if that helps anyone. I highly recommend the Hitachi if its in your budget.
Jun 2nd 2006 1:07PM I am a Mac user. Also uber gamer. Let's see one of your really cool polls on the subject joystiq. Do a little research of your own.
May 12th 2006 1:18AM This blog post and everything surrounding her appearance represents everything that is wrong in America. come on joystiq. you can do better! file this under... WGS?! (who gives a s**t)
Mar 21st 2006 4:56PM None in my region. Anywhere. I have tried all targets, best buys, circuit cities, fry's electronics, costco's, fred meyer's, eb games, gamestop, etc. Portland, Salem, Albany, Corvallis, and Eugene, Oregon. I'm about to lose interest waiting. Plus all the game crazy stores are still filling pre orders from last summer. they still have about 10 locally in Corvallis. This is getting frustrating. I hope this news is good news.
