The best of January 2009 {WoW}

Dec 21st 2009 1:28AM The worst was pinheads in suits getting rid of Mike Scramm.

WoW Insider Show tomorrow at 3:30pm Eastern {WoW}

Dec 19th 2009 12:44PM Is writing for Joystig a better gig? I only visit WoW related sites so I'm in the dark on how much of a step up the new position is. Hopefully it's a gratz Mike moment. If so, gratz Mike.

Guildwatch: We're over applications, too {WoW}

Dec 16th 2009 3:48PM I check Guildwatch every week and do a quick search to see if anyone from my realm is mentioned. Finally someone from our backwater server gets a little attention and Mike spells the damn server name wrong. It's Garithos not Garthos.

Joystiq talks to Frank Pearce about the past and future of Warcraft {WoW}

Dec 10th 2009 6:26PM Steve Van Zandt did his spot in character.

Mr. T isn't exactly a master thespian.

I doubt we'll see Vern Troyer picking up any awards for acting.

I should have said C List actors or quasi celebrities. People who are very recognizable but still willing to do a commercial for a video game.

Speaking of people being famous for being famous, maybe Perez Hilton and Paris Hilton could team up for a commercial.

Phat Loot Phriday: Sharpened Obsidian Edged Blade {WoW}

Dec 4th 2009 6:47PM Mike,

Do you write PLP on Phriday or do you write it earlier in the week and just post it on Phriday?

Raid Rx: Heroic Faction Champions {WoW}

Nov 13th 2009 3:42PM The first few my guild defeated Faction Champs on heroic, we thought the fight bugged out as all the melee pursued our tank and suck to me for the remainder of the fight. After we found the analysis of the treat mechanics for the fight, we realized that it's not a bug. As a healer and range dps it's vital to stay away from the melee. The fight can be tanked if you keep range at range.

One thing to note about the faction champ healers, they target and heal the member of their team with the lowest health. Keeping enough dps on the pets without killing them will keep heals on the pets. It's it much easier to burn the raids main target as they won't get heals until their health is lower than the pets.

Raid Rx: What's a good raid healing makeup? {WoW}

Sep 15th 2009 3:57PM I play a holy paladin. The guild and I have recently take a bit of a break from raiding, but since 3.2 I have noticed a change in Holy Pallie healing. I find myself direct healing the main tank less and less. I usually put Beacon of Light on the tank, hit them with a Sacred Shield, Flash of Light them once to get the Flash of Light HoT ticking. Since I have Beacon on the Tank and overheals now count towards healing the Beacon'ed player, any heals thrown on the tank seems like a potential waste. Why bother casting a heal on the tank when I could throw the heal on someone else and still heal the tank without penalty? You get two for one heals with Beacon up. The only time I come back to the tank is to refresh Beacon, Sacred Shield and the Sacred Shield HoT.

Does this change how we should look at Holy Paladin's role as healers? Should the new role be MT Healer + OT Healer or MT Healer + Raid Heals? I maybe overstating the amount of healing attention we can afford others while focusing on the MT. But still, it's a lot different now than back when we spam healed one target.

Patch 3.2: Argent Coliseum 5-man story and encounters, Pt. 3 {WoW}

"Confess -- Force the target to confess their darkest memories.
Summon Memory -- Summons a memory from the past."

It would be sweet if Blizzard used the statistics data to make you confess which boss you died on most frequently. That way you really would be facing your darkest memory.

Observations from running a Naxx-25 PuG, part II {WoW}

Apr 8th 2009 5:51PM No doubt there are a number of talented DK's but there are an awful lot of bad ones. I think the point is, if you were a lousy hunter/mage/lock/rogue when Wrath was released making the switch to DK might seem appealing. If you were lousy as hunter/mage/lock/rogue you're probably going to be lousy as a DK. End result, a disproportionate number of low skill hunter/mage/lock/rogue players switch to DK's which results in a DK population that has disproportionate number of low skill players. The hunter/mage/lock/rogue populations shrink but increase in skill level on average.

Not all DK's are bad but:

Lots of bad hunter/mage/lock/rogue players became DK's.

Lots of bad hunter/mage/lock/rogue players remain bad after switching to DK's.

There are a lot of bad DK's out there.

There are less bad players playing hunter/mage/lock/rogue.
