The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Threatening {WoW}

Feb 19th 2010 2:59PM I can understand that view, but for some, the enjoyment of the game *is* number-mushing; this is especially true with tanks, the best of whom have several different sets of gear for different purposes (I don't run heroics in the same gear that I use to main tank, for example). Number mushing is the reason why sites like Elitist Jerks, Maintankadin, and TankSpot exist, and are so popular.

My old warrior class leader from TBC once told me something that has stuck; great tanks are cerebral.

I know exactly what he meant. Back in TBC I remember running heroic Underbog with a fully Tier 5 tank who couldn't hold threat in a paper bag; he overgeared the instance and spent it rage starved. And in WLK, I've run heroics with tanks in crafted blues, a couple of DPS pieces, and one or two Naxx epics who could blow some ToC25 geared tanks out of the water on threat, because they understand that in heroics threat, and damage, is more important than a fat health bar.

So yeah. Number crunching may not be very warrior-like, but the best tanks realise that gearing theory is as much a part of tanking as mashing your hotkeys.

More tanking changes for warriors {WoW}

Feb 16th 2010 3:26PM /sigh

Warrior AOE threat is fine. It's not at paladin tank levels (what is?) but it's certainly on par with druids and death knights.

Adding a cleave effect to Revenge makes no sense. Warrior's already have a cleave, surprisingly called "Cleave". It's off the GCD, and if you glyph it, it hits 3 targets - exactly the same as a druid's Swipe.

This isn't intended as snarky, but it really grinds my gears when people complain about prot warrior AOE needing a buff. Our AOE threat is fine, and it's infinitely better than it was in TBC.

They need to up Revenge's base damage without us having to spec into it, baked in threat is a backward step and a bad move. We're behind other tanks in terms of DPS, and while DPS isn't really what tanking is all about, its still a factor.

May 5th 2009 3:13PM Handling the UP gauntlet as a warrior tank;

i) Battle Stance
ii) Start running
iii) Retaliation when you see the mobs approaching
iv) Defensive Stance
v) Charge
vi) Thunderclap
vii) Challenging Shout
viii) Tab-Cleave
ix) Shockwave

Congratulations, you just cleared the gauntlet and can start picking off the Harpoonists.

BigRedKitty: Hunter-loot awards for 2008 Part II {WoW}

Dec 31st 2008 1:37PM Trollbane > Halberd of Desolation if you're hit capped, tbh. Glad I got mine, saved me a lot of DKP.

And Sonic Spear....ah yes. I was one of those hunters that never saw it...until one time it dropped, and a ret pally won it. She was using Crow Wing Reaper at the time. That was a /headdesk moment for sure. I got it eventually and swapped it in if I needed ever the +hit. One of the best itemised stat-sticks hunters have had.

Got my Rhok back in the day (wearing Beastmaster/Dire Maul blues), never got a sniff of Thor'idal, but I know what Rhok took to get and it's every bit as legendary as the latter. Even if it is relegated to "town gear" these days /sniff

Also, where's Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle? That thing was the shizzle for BM Hunters until the badge bow was released.

Something of significance, even if it pre dates 2008. Barbarous Blade. I got sick of farming x2 Bone Slicing Hatchets from Strat and then I heard about Barbarous Blade. Got it on my first run, and it with +25 Agility served me well indeed.

Breakfast Topic: Are you achieving? {WoW}

Aug 15th 2008 10:56AM I'd like an achievement or even a title for completing my Hunter epic quest from MC. Spending achievement points to upgrade Rhok'delar and Lokh'delar would be quite stellar. I actually still use the bow now when grinding, because I don't have to worry about pulling aggro off my pet with it. Besides, it beats banking it to just gather dust :p

"Paying 10g for someone to open UBRS Door"

Innkeepers as instance-group matchmakers

The AQ Silithid Invasion wreaked havoc in Tanaris and , Feralas, and Kalimdor crashed when the Gong was rang

When you had to physically queue outside each BG's portal

When every hunter had an Ice Barbed Spear and a Frostsaber

When the Arcanite Reaper was THE Weapon of Mass Destruction

May 2nd 2008 9:05AM Oh yeah, Delrissa in MGT is great. I particularly like "It's been a kick...really." When she wipes you. Which seems to happen to often for my taste >_>

I also love Moroes' voice. I keep expecting him to break into a rendition of "Monster Mash"

Also Netherkuse from Shattered Halls cracks me up every single time, such a sadist.

Pre-BC, C'thun was creepy as hell.

"Your friends...will betray you."

"Your heart...will explode."

(Apparently they removed "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.")
