Richard Garriott asserts claim over lunar land {Joystiq}

Mar 30th 2010 1:55AM @ ShadowflareXIII

It is REALLY hard to tell who did what with TR. Richard claims that the letter of him leaving was made up by NCSoft, and that he was already being pushed out of there anyway (since NCSoft wanted to pull the plug). Look on wikipedia.

That said, I don't know what Garriot is like IRL nor would I judge him since I have no idea. I know that he did much for gaming early on, and now pretty much does nothing for it. But meh, most older developers don't do anything for it anyway... When was the last time Will Wright or Sid Meier made a good game (like the ones they used to make)? Even Shigeru is losing his touch (Wii Music anyone?), but then again, he still manages Wii Fit and what not.

At least Richard is mixing things up a bit, even if it does seem selfish, and totally wacked out.

Funcom teases new Secret World trailer {Massively}

Sorry but this game doesn't even have any details about the actual mechanics, etc. And even those details are mostly useless since they could be poorly done. Actually all hype is pretty much a whole pile of crap, 100% of hyped MMORPGs are bad MMORPGs, and about 99.5% of hyped games are subpar games.

Why people are getting hyped over NOTHING (literally nothing, there isn't anything here) is beyond me.

Maybe people can see some secret code in the bad cinematics and cloned Left4Dead settings/style that I cannot!!!!

Mar 21st 2010 11:50PM Make a game based pretty much solely on Kinah and make a game with a bad economy. Check.
Make the game as grindy as ****, to the point that it is almost impossible for a person with a life to get to max without giving up in the early levels. Check.

Blame players for the core faults of your own stupid game. Check.

LESSON: Create a game that gives the gold sellers and levelers the maximum potential to live and flourish, and well.... BLAME THE PLAYERS EVERYONE FOR YOUR CRAP POS GAME.

He says... stuff... I haven't read all too many of what he has writen but the few articles I have gone through haven't been more overly intellegent then your average MMORPG blogger. And while states his OPINION (note that, since you said it like he tells the truth about what is wrong and what is right rather then just his limited opinion), yet at the same time much of what he is stating is wrong is what may very well be wrong with his current game he is working on. Actually from what I read from him he totally ignores the problems with the game he is working on.

There is serious fault that being a blogger with opinions about games WHILE being a developer. Because they have to restrict themselves majorly, espically when and if they don't have very much creative control over what they can do within the game. He has a contract with [whatever] he cannot bad mouth them and his opinion may very well be deluded because he is working on X.

Indy developers are a bit different, someone like Jonathan Blow can bad mouth Xbox Live (blow, get it?!). But someone like Jennings has no freedom to do that and hence his opinion is near-useless because it is totally warped.

And don't worry short-sighted bigot, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Amazing how you defend someone else getting called a moron and personal insult the person right back... If that's not a hypocrite I don't know what is.

Advance leaks from Famitsu and Dengeki shed more light on Final Fantasy XIV {Massively}

Structure? In MMORPGs? Isn't the genre for it (since structure requires balance, otherwise there isn't a structure to begin with), there will never be balance in a MMORPG. Chess, Starcraft, Counter-Strike, sure, but not MMORPGs. If anything non-class based MMORPGs offer more structure since the same wide range of offers are available to all players on their one character.

So IMO classes actually offer the opposite of structure. They just introduce more faults to the structure of the game. That said, I think there is enoug room in the world for both class based game and non-class, but I think raven's point was that there are too many typical class based games (typical since you can get class based games that totally shake up the class-based style, they just haven't come yet... hey... maybe FFIV is that game. Doubtful, but the possibility is there).

New Aion account services offer big changes {Massively}

Feb 14th 2010 10:54PM Aion has such an annoyingly complex character creation process that I'd hope the character changer would be free, at least for the first time you use it.

Feb 6th 2010 4:55AM kooda is right buddy, even look at the wood... that is shocking graphical work

i guess that what you get when you base a game on an old engine, WAR in general preformed horribly (when I played it) and looked really bad

and yes xion, real life brickwork looks like EXACTLY like giant lego blocks stuck together (like this picture does)
