Oct 23rd 2009 8:46PM Mr Khan if you think the wii could handle even a modicum of the real console versions areas you're sorely mistaken. If or when they did port this it would basically be Dead Rising all over again. So yeah the wii can totally handle Borderlands, in a small one room version with half the enemies of the console version on screen at once.

Sep 19th 2009 5:23PM It's not opinion it's fact. There are bland and completely reused textures in Crystal Bearers. I understand the vision the developer wants to go for but as far as I can see they have failed miserably. What Bioshock did well was create a world based in a past decade and put it undersea in a place away from the world. Your sickening generalizations of western game development aside, I think you'd enjoy Bioshock much more than Crystal Bearers if you truly looked at what was in front you.

Also one of the most intriguing atmospheric elements of Bioshock was the water and the undersea setting in general. I'd even go so far as to say that the idea of putting Bioshock on the Wii is laughable at best and woefully misguided at worst. Wii games should be focused on innovative control schemes (read:adding superfluous waggle effects)and on crafting engaging worlds without the aid of technology from the past 8 years (read:terribly uninviting graphics and using symbols over characters' heads instead of having them show real facial emotion).

Sep 19th 2009 4:24PM I think one of the key points you're missing is that that game is bland as fuck. Bioshock did well because the environment was richly detailed and had character. Looking at Crystal Bearers and other Japanese RPG's game play makes me want to fall asleep just watching. The worlds are bland and have very little personality. Shin Megami Tensei is a notable exception to this. All Japanese developers could stand to learn a thing or two about crafting rich worlds from Atlus.

Not to mention Crystal Bearers is on the Wii which already drags down its ability to fully realize a developer's vision. And before you down vote me for speaking ill of the Wii, imagine Bioshock on the Wii. I thought so.

Sep 19th 2009 2:33PM I'll give you Mother 3 but that's totally the exception. As for handhelds, well Scribblenauts is American made, as are many of the innovative games that have come out for the DS and PSP. As a whole the Western Market is generally more interesting.

Sep 19th 2009 1:26PM Holy shit someone drank the kool aid. Japanese games largely fall into three camps: Standard JRPGs, text based affairs, or hack and slashes of a more mindless level than any Halo title. What comes out between those three genres and actually sells is few and far between. Virtually everything Japan has done within the JRPG world has been done far FAR better by Bioware and other western developers. Even the MMORPG market is ruled by WoW.

As a matter of fact aside from the few gems that crawl out of the homogeneous stink hole that is the Japanese gaming world, there really is not that much going on. Now I concede that the American market is very involved with anything that goes boom. But this is also the country that gave the world The Sims, Elder Scrolls, inFamous, etc. And they aren't the exception. Western developers are much more apt to allow innovation.

If Japanese developers can make their JRPG's have as much thematic weight as the Call of Duty 4 nuke sequence I'll eat my hat. But they can't do that, nor can they craft a game with even a serviceable level of gameplay. Even games we traditionally scorn (Too Human) would do exceedingly well in the Japanese market with a spiky haired lead and an anime inspired art style.

The Japanese gaming market is burning in its own failure to change. We should collectively let it burn.

Aug 13th 2009 1:15AM Pc people do get on my nerves. I for one would never make fun of a gay person but I do use terms like gay, retarded, etc. When describing events that do not go as planned. If gay people would like to start using "straight" as an insult or description of events I'd be fine with it. As it stands I take flak for being a ganer with more games than friends. I shouldn't take crap for being an anti social prick by nature but I do and it hardly bothers me. I agree with an ad campaign aimed at cutting down violence and intolerance against gay teens though.
