The case for an Apple stock split redux {}

Feb 28th 2011 12:12AM
The analysis of stocks that split vs. don't split is an example of an incomplete use of statistics. The two populations are not equivalent.

Most stocks that split do so because their price has risen recently. This means your population of stocks that split will be companies that are performing well and growing profits. Stocks that don't split are a mix of everybody else. You have a self-selecting population of higher performing stocks and therefore the comparison of the two groups is not valid.

Reviewing the Razer Naga Epic mouse: 12 buttons you never knew you wanted {WoW}

Feb 17th 2011 7:17PM I couldn't imagine healing ever again without this. I made mouseover macros for each healing spell and bound them to the buttons. Plus a few cooldowns and I'm good to go.

Apple stock rises to over $342 intra-day {}

Jan 10th 2011 4:00PM Guys,

I know you aren't a stock blog, but stock market indexes are not measured in dollars and cents, they are in points. You should correct the article.

Totem Talk: Restoration shaman guide to Cataclysm reputation gear {WoW}

Dec 14th 2010 12:51PM
I don't rate haste that high for us right now. My priorities have been:

Int, spirit, crit, haste / mastery

I reforged any of the last 3 stats I could to spirit where I could, and then reforged any haste and mastery to crit where I could. I think the way reforging works and with stat priorities, you'll always move down the line and then be left with whatever your bottom two stats are.

red gems get int
yellow gets an orange gem of int and crit
blue gets a purple gem of int and spirit

Totem Talk: Bringing your restoration shaman back for Cataclysm {WoW}

Nov 23rd 2010 3:14PM @minstrel That ghostcrawler quote is from August. In the mean time 4.0 was released and Telluric Currents has been netting resto shamans lots of mana for a few weeks now.

I'd have to wonder if that statement is now outdated. Maybe telluric currents won't be "mandatory" but if their intent was for it to be mana neutral they seem to be way behind on "tuning." It's a huge mana regen at this point, BUT it should be noted that this is while running instances where I can spare multiple GCDs.

I think the real trade off with TC is that you have to feel comfortable enough throwing a lightning bolt and not healing, which could mean your tank dies on harder content.

Arcane Brilliance: Fire mage Cataclysm talent analysis, page 3 {WoW}

Nov 7th 2010 12:28PM Hey just one catch, or perhaps asking for clarification.

In your "fantasy" description, you describe all of the synergies of the tree coming together which sounds awesome, but I think there is a flaw in it.

If you need to use mage armor to absorb the dot from cauterize, then you can't have molten armor up to cast scorch while running.

Am i right or am I missing something?

Cataclysm raid progression update {WoW}

Oct 26th 2010 5:21PM This big difference is that the initial raid will have a heroic mode. When Wrath launched there was no heroic modes for Naxx, so people were raiding it over and over again for item level 200 (10 man) gear and 213 (25 man). When your 10 man raid is yielding the same epics as the heroics you were grinding, there wasn't really a rewarding feeling at the end of all that time of farming naxx. Only Kel'Thuzad 25 man dropped anything really far and away better than heroics.

This may be what makes cata's launch better than wrath's in that there is more tiers to go thru at launch. And one the second tier is released there will be raids able to gear up from the first few bosses.

In a way it's like vanilla raids that would gear up from razorgore before being able to kill Vael.
