Blizzard's post-mortem on Cataclysm dungeons and raids {WoW}

Mar 5th 2012 10:20PM I think that the difficulty point was understated. There was a trend that was started in raiding that intensified in WOTLK. I call this phenomenon the "hokie pokie dance". Succeeding at a raid has become doing a special little dance. You move here when this DBM alert goes off, you do that when this other DBM alarm goes off. This trend intensified throughout the previous expansion. You do this and that when you're told. There's no strategy here....you just do what you're told.

Then we get to Cataclysm. The Hokie Pokie dance got even worse. In many cases before if you didn't do the dance right you would suffer some negative result: it might slow you down or damage you to the point that healers have to waste mana to save you. Now if you don't do the hokie pokie and turn yourself around you typically die now...instantly with little or no margin for error.

To make it worse at the start of Cataclysm this even trickled down to the instance level. You now have bosses in 5 man heroic dungeons that are more mechanically complex in some of the bosses in say....Naxxramas.

Blizzard has been trying so hard to one up themselves after every expansion that the complexity of everything is beginning to overwhelm everything else they do. They need to stop listening to the people complaining about EZMODE encounters and "welfare epics". Casuals are the ones paying their salary. If they can't understand that then they deserve to fail.

The Classifieds: Trademark your guild name {WoW}

Oct 12th 2011 9:23PM As a former resident of Tarew Marr (EQ) I can attest that The Syndicate is nothing special. When I played back then their only distinction was that they were the largest guild on the server and would recruit just about anyone. The only other guild I've seen with this level of arrogance is Fires of Heaven.

Know Your Lore: The Shattering, part 1 {WoW}

Oct 9th 2011 7:27PM A lot of this can be seen in Northrend on the Horde side. The entire storyline in Borean Tundra is basically cleaning up after Garrosh and his unending string of stupid rash decisions. I fine if funny, upon arriving at Agmar's Hammer and reading the note from Saurfang. It's proof that some in the orc camp don't agree with Garrosh but it's never followed up with anything. Then we get the shitstorm of what happened at the Wrathgate and both sides ended up fighting each other yet again over who would get the shot at Arthas.

As a Horde player, what I want next expansion is to kill Garrosh. But not Garrosh as a boss. I want to kill him while he sits on the throne as Warchief. I want a rebellion.

Breakfast Topic: What holiday does Azeroth still need? {WoW}

Sep 28th 2011 9:31AM I've seen Brewfest on both sides of the fence. I'm not hating on the Alliance here (I'm Horde) but the Horde got shafted for Brewfest. The goblin theme just doesn't work. This is underscored by the audio track. It sounds like the dwarven track being given the Chipmunk's treatment. The result is so horrible that the results are like nails on a blackboard. It's so bad that I want to take a knife and dig my ears out with it. I can see maybe having one Brewfest zone with maybe some pvplite similar to the Dark Iron event....an Alliance/Horde drunken brawl. Have dwarves running it....it's only proper.

Breakfast Topic: How would you change Cataclysm? {WoW}

Apr 16th 2011 1:34PM I like the comment about faster instances. They should also make it worth your while to run more than one instance.

Then there is the difficulty problem. I think they made the bosses in Cata waaay too hard. When you look them up on WoWhead the infoblock is about the same size as a raid boss from Wotlk. They have made tanking and healing even more difficuly making grouping harder. The Call to Arms being proposed isn't a solution. It's like they took every single lesson they learned from WOTLK and chose to ignore it. Lastly, I don't like doing heroics for blues that aren't any better than what I already have.

I started WoW in it's early days after playing EQ. I haven't logged in in about 2 months. Cata is killing the game.

Them's fightin' words: RIFT commercial takes on WoW {Massively}

Jan 11th 2011 9:36AM It's not like Blizzard never did this. They took a similar shot at SOE in some magazine ads saying "No thanks, I'd rather kill rats.

That aside, only an idiot could be impressed with what is obviously FMV footage. Give me gameplay footage or GTFO.

Breakfast Topic: Is your race or faction choice based on sticking with friends? {WoW}

Dec 17th 2010 10:35AM I tried. My friend have been jumping around servers a lot. I have a TON of friends that play buy none of them are on the same server. I'm pretty much the only one left that's Horde. Either that or play on a server where just being Horde sucks.

Apr 1st 2010 4:31PM I gotta ask....what the fuck does this have to do with WoW?
