May 30th 2008 8:02PM Unless you're actually running the risk of dying while running your dailies (possible, but my only problems with this tended to be my resto shaman in greens), higher DPS from spelldamage gear will probably get things done quicker.
As for judging Crusader, it depends on how long you plan to hit the mob for; judging crusader adds about 295 spell damage for the max rank judgement to all your following holy spells. In exchange, you're giving up one judgement.
On my prot pally, I've got around 400 spell damage in my normal gear plus the 2pc T4 bonus (helm and shoulders). My judgement hits for around 700 damage without Crusader, and about 840 with. If the mob has more than about 7000 hp, it's probably worth it for me to start out judging Crusader. If not, it's just as fast to just use Righteousness and get one extra judgement.
Also, a lot of protection tanking gear has very little intellect or mp5, relying on Spiritual Attunement for mana regen.
Jan 15th 2008 2:15PM Not since patch 2.1 or so... Now we only get mana back from actual healing. Also, the final "bloom" from Lifebloom doesn't seem to provide any return mana; Prayer of Mending does.
Jan 11th 2008 1:24PM I know what you mean about staring the boss in the crotch. :-)
After our Kara run last week, I commented that I'd successfully tanked Prince's knees. Since I'm a prot. pally, prince is laughably easy aggro - I think I had about 150k threat at the start of phase 2, so I just turned off my auto-attack until phase 3 and used spells to stay ahead of our DPS.
One thing to remember when going in to a new, tough boss is that there are a bunch of consumables that can help you out. Besides food/elixirs, scrolls of Agility and Protection add a bit more mitigation. If you don't always have a priest in your party, scrolls of stamina are better than nothing, but they don't stack with Power Word: Fortitude.
Dec 14th 2007 1:15PM Alliance! We may not win at PvP, but at least you can tell when we're losing...
Dec 5th 2007 3:09PM I want to get a Kara drop this week (since every boss has something for me), and kill Prince again.
Nov 7th 2007 5:25AM I'm curious about all the posters who've suggested that a Paladin can heal while tanking. My main is a Prot Pally whose tanked through Curator (our guild's current progression target is Aran), and I can't imagine how I could possibly heal while tanking. I can cleanse, since that's instant, but Paladins without the 31-point holy talent have only two heals, both of which are channelled.
For those of you who mostly play warriors/rogues and other classes with instants, channelling a spell means that you forfeit your chance to parry/block an attack, relying on dodge and miss chance (I think you get dodge). You're also subject to spell pushback every time you get hit, causing your spell to take longer, or possibly be cancelled.
Given that I have to stop parrying and blocking to cast a spell, I'm almost certain to get both spell pushback and eat a crushing blow or two in the process if I'm tanking and trying to cast anything other than instants. (even the 0.5s Hammer of Wrath seems a likely candidate for pushback, although it's better than the old 1s cast)
Oh, I guess I could bubble to prevent spell pushback, and temporarily drop all aggro, so the mob goes to the next target. Except I'm not tanking then, since I'm not controlling the mob.
If a mob is susceptible to stuns, then I have a 6-second stun that will let me get a heal off, but all bosses and a fair bit of trash are immune to stuns. (the ones that hit really hard, it seems)
Oct 25th 2007 7:45PM I'm levelling a shaman alt now, but life seems really rough (at level 25 or so now). I'd love a levelling guide to which items/stats I should be worrying about; I'm levelling as elemental, because it seemed fun, but without a group I find that my survivability is short.
I'd love to see a guide to get me to 30, 40, and beyond. (I've finally gotten my mage into outlands, and my paladin is having great fun in Kara... Shaman just seems very different.)
Oct 13th 2007 2:39PM "at what point are we getting a big arrow you can see from halfway across the zone that says 'Kill This Mob to Finish Your Quest'?"
Hmm... you don't mean Cartographer+TomTom, do you?
Or a hunter's ability to track things for grinding quests...
