Jan 10th 2010 8:54PM I have a tendency to name my characters after obscure folks in RL mythology - names like Hawwa, Atiratu, Halvir (okay, he's not obscure, but work with me), Sothis, Alalngar, Thralk (though he's not from mythology, but is certainly obscure). The glorious thing is that it's an easter egg for people who know who I'm referencing, and gives a good, actually subtle clue to their personality. For instance, a Death Knight named Halvir gives a good indication of a wandering warrior, displaced for whatever reason, searching for knowledge (of self, of purpose, of whatever), determined to make things right again. Or a prettyboy mage. It depends on my mood and how silly I'm being.
Getting hit on the head with names like Harmony doesn't indicate 'subtle,' it indicates 'unimaginative,' 'hackneyed,' and 'possibly brps_suck material.' I'm going to avoid anyone with Harmony in their name like the Plague. The Lich King has a tendency to kill Harmonies anyway.
Sep 29th 2009 9:32AM Which, if I might add, justifies King Varian's foaming-at-the-mouth tendencies.
To be fair, the only people who have their heads screwed on straight are the people who barely show up - Jaina is just making things worse.
Sep 17th 2009 9:49AM The quest ENDS in Scholomance, sure, but when there's two paladins in a group, we had to run through nearly all of Stratholme to get the holy water.
Sep 16th 2009 9:01AM The moment I remember most is doing my paladin Charger quest - alliance side, level 60, on a draenei paladin about six months after TBC had dropped. It was so epic, stepping into Stratholme for the first time and seeing this massive, complex instance laid out in front of me and very calmly murdering any idea I had of how to play a paladin. I learned so much of what it means to be a paladin, both in terms of game mechanics and lore, doing that quest chain.
Sep 12th 2009 12:17PM I don't think they should be mandatory. If you want one, fine, more power to you. There are other people in big guilds that you have to consider, and that IS a valid reason to buy one. Paranoia is a fine quality for things like that.
However, I, personally, am not in a big raiding guild. I don't even instance at 80. I play BGs and arenas every so often to blow off steam. Only two of my capped toons have epic flying. Most of my toons don't even have the flying skill. I'm just not that attached to my account. I could care less if my toons all got hacked and deleted. I'd just either petition a GM or start over again - either way would end up in having fun for me (going back to what I was doing before/leveling).
I find it slightly ludicrous that I should be forced to make a hobby that I only do occasionally more secure than some online bank accounts because those who DO need authenticators can't be arsed to get them. I've got virus protection programs running, I keep my OS security updated, and I only go to a handful of websites that I know aren't running malware because I am a boring creature of habit. I think that is about the level of security appropriate for the level of investment I have in WoW.
Sep 11th 2009 9:48AM I'm going to get lynched for this, but the sound male orcs make when they're fighting and trying to kill you. I can deal with any other aggro/crit/just-hit-me sound in the GAME (and I think murloc sounds are cute) but male orcs just universally sound like mouth-breathing morons who are waving around weapons with no idea how to use them. It pisses me off even MORE when I get ganked by one.
Dec 28th 2008 5:29PM It's in the quest text for the prerequisites for the Wrath Gate events. There is no info dump quest, more like general commentary from the NPCs at the Hold and Venomspite. A good deal of what happens at the two bases is because of Naxx showing up and throwing a spanner in the works.
Nov 6th 2008 9:46AM My paladin just has 'of the Shattered Sun' and 'Ambassador' at the moment, though I hope to get her 'the Diplomat' at some point, and I'm totally aiming for the Argent rep title. What sort of paladin would I be if I didn't bring love to certain enemies and be a part of the Argent Dawn?
My hunter, on the other hand, just has 'of the Shattered Sun' though I want to give her 'the Explorer' too.
Dec 2nd 2007 1:53PM Or, you know... they might actually be business savvy and let Bliz do the Bliz thing. Having native platforms has garnered some of the best business in the gaming industry. Bliz has consistently put out top-quality games. I highly doubt that the guys have decided to do away with Bliz's major selling points.
Also: there's probably a lot in the contract that we haven't seen involving those points. Don't get your knickers in a twist until the Apocalypse actually does come.
Nov 16th 2007 8:03AM On my server, people have been having problems with putting things up on the AH. You'd put an item up for auction, hear the chink of money, but nothing would happen. No money would be taken out, and the item wouldn't leave your bags. Frustrating, to say the least, since you could buy, but not sell.
