The educational potential of class-based achievements {WoW}

Jan 6th 2011 4:46PM This is a great idea. Spec specific achieves might be a good idea as well. I could think up dozens of these. My contributions from a rogue:

Kickin' It: Interupt X spells with Kick.
Feint of Heart: Reduced incoming AOE damage X times.
Trick or Deeps: Players affected by your Tricks of the Trade dealt X extra damage.
I Feel Dizzy: Sap or Kidney Shot NPCs and enemy players for a total of X minutes stunned.
The Goggles, They Do Nothing!: Blind X players from taking a battleground flag/capture.
Feeling Fine: Recover X HP while stealthed via Recuperate.
Murder In The First: Added X combo points to targets via Premeditate.
Double Dealing: Deal X damage while under the effect of Vendetta and Bloodlust/Time Ward/Heroism.

And so on and so forth.

Jan 6th 2011 3:32PM Depends what you mean by "tank rewards." Some tankish weapons on there.

Jan 6th 2011 1:05PM As an American of Norwegian ancestry, I have been subjected to the good and bad world of Norwegian cuisine. Pastry? Good. Non-Fish? Good. Fish? Very, very bad.

Kringla and kumla were the usual suspects.

Jan 3rd 2011 11:44AM That's a troll, she's dead forever. However, General Leo, in Final Fantasy 3/6, can be ressurected by killing 50,000 dinosaurs without dieing...or does it!? (Protip: It doesn't.)

Dec 10th 2010 4:39PM As a lawyer, I usually read this column to see what legal ridiculousness is being thrown about in the comments, so I can say "what is this!? amateur hour!?" This article does not allow me to do so, but I am happy to see the sys admins get their turn.

In any event, the answer is Windows Security Essentials + Authenticator. That should cover 99.9% of problems.

Dec 9th 2010 10:07AM Should have mentioned I was leveling from 80-85. I think lower levels, especially with heirloom gear, wouldn't want to go assassination if speed was the primary consideration.

I'm a dagger rogue. Always have been, always will be. Stealthing to get overkill is kind of a pain, especially with the server lag I have been hit with, but I don't have the gear or desire to go combat. My secondary spec is PvP sub, but maybe I should give that a shot for leveling.

Dec 9th 2010 10:00AM As far as skinning goes, if you go to the dragonkin area in Hyjal (the one during the harpy old god chain) you will be skinnin like a villain. I found it to be easier than all the snakes near the sunken boat in Vash because: (1) the quest everyone is on near the dragonkin requires you to kill 12 of one kind, three of the other, and defend some spawn area from dragonkin. Lots and lots of dead dragonkin, and they are all in neat little piles, as opposed to the floating snake corpses spread all over in 3D space. (2) Maybe I just suck, but underwater 3D skinning is not my forte. Ran into a lot of "not close enough dummy" warnings. (3) People were ganking every dragon that spawned to get the quest done, meaning I could just skin and people would pull any spawned mob off of me. There were also areas on the ledges you could fly to where you would often find 6-8 bodies laying there.

Dec 8th 2010 1:34PM I am leveling via Assassination right now. I think Deadly Brew is a waste of points for leveling, and I have placed them into Improved Recuperate which makes me an unstoppable killing machine, and would suggest others do the same. You'll get a lot more bang for your leveling buck with Improved Recuperate than Deadly Brew, especially with Deadly Momentum.

I'm also still using cut to the chase, because it is much easier to pop one point into Slice and Dice, use a finisher to max duration, and then let Deadly Momentum bring it back to max every time something dies.

I can see a beastly Assassination spec for end game PvP with Imp Recuperate and Deadend Nerves. Keep it up

Gearing up for WoW with an NVIDIA video card {WoW}

Dec 6th 2010 3:52PM Take all of these X will run Y with a grain of salt--it depends on your resolution and graphic settings. More importantly, it also depends on the rest of your computer as well, even in a "hardcore raid setting." Hell, even with my 6870 and quad core, the new Org will choke it down to 60fps if a ton of people are running around down there (though that might just be a driver issue).
