Breakfast Topic: Have dailies replaced old fashioned grinding? {WoW}

May 31st 2008 7:17PM If your grinding rate on elementals is 5-6 motes per hour, then you're doing something horribly, catastrophically wrong.

Ready Check: Applying and Trialling {WoW}

May 8th 2008 3:26AM Nice concept, Pavid, but "has decent gear, knows how to play their class, doesn't cause wipes, comes on time, comes prepared with consumables and gives it their all" rules out probably 99% of the 10 million people who play this game. Hence the rigorous application processes.

No, really, you don't. Trust me.

Interest group speaks up against Blizzard on Glider case {WoW}

May 6th 2008 9:00PM I thought Blizzard's case against Glider was based on tortious (sp?) interference, not copyright? i.e. that Glider was a product whose sole and intended purpose was for its users to violate their EULA with Blizzard?

The secret society of WoW players {WoW}

May 5th 2008 8:55PM In his book "Fever Pitch" Nick Hornby wrote a similar thing about being a football fan. As an insane Arsenal fan, he'd often have people introduced to him as "this is so-and-so, he loves Arsenal too!", and then upon making conversation, find out that this person last went to a game a few years ago and now just glances at the scores in the next day's newspaper, if that.

Meeting other WoW players can be a bit like that. A good sign is when, upon being told that you play WoW, they say "oh! what level are you?" and your answer is going to be more along the lines of how many level 70's you have.

Five tips to minimize raiding downtime {WoW}

Apr 27th 2008 8:00PM Thoralf: "As I wrote: I don't play the game as a race. I play it for fun."

Fair enough, but most people find constant action to actually be more fun than standing around for a minute in between fights waiting to make 100% sure everyone is 100% ready.

You just gotta hit the speed that's right for your raid - but I honestly believe that, for content that you've got on farm, that speed will be pretty damn fast, and it WILL feel like fun, not like "playing the game as a race".

Apr 22nd 2008 1:39AM Voriman I probably shouldn't reply again because I'm pretty sure you're just trolling.

But on the off chance that you're just a truly horrible player..

Spirit and spell damage gear? Yes indeedy there is a lot of spirit and spell damage on rogue leather, WHICH IS WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT.

You're a physical dps class, you should gear for physical dps. AP, agiliy, crit, hit (up to the cap), armour penetration.. is that hard to understand?

So, you show up well stocked with consumables. Lots of super mana pots. You're aware that using just one single super mana pot in a fight is equivalent to starting that fight with _160_ more intellect on your gear?

Still think intellect is a good use of item budget?

Superior Wizard Oil, eh? +42 spell damage. I'll be charitable and assume you meant Superior Mana Oil since you were talking about regen. 14 mana/5, in a 5 minute fight that's 840 mana, equal to starting with 56 more intellect on your gear. In a 10 minute fight, make that 112 more intellect.

Still think intellect is a good use of item budget?

The steady shot comment? Made to be fair to you. Steady shot is the cheapest of your special shots, as you may know. I didn't want to say "it takes more than 18 points of intellect to buy you even ONE more multi shot" and have you reply that I was being unfair because steady is the bread and butter of a hunter's shot rotation. Hence I used the cheapest shot to make intellect look AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE.

Apr 22nd 2008 12:42AM Thanks for confirming my thoughts Voriman.

If you were touting the values of mana/5 you might have a point, but intellect? Intellect? Come on. Running out of mana in a long fight has almost nothing to do with the initial size of your mana pool, and everything to do with your regen. Remember it takes more than 7 points of intellect to buy you even ONE more steady shot. One extra shot in a 5-10 minute fight? Awesome.

Healers hardly have to worry about healing you due to your mail armor? Yep you've just proved to the world that you have never raided.

Geared to your spec? Yep you sound perfectly well geared to for solo'ing and 5-mans. Congratulations.

Apr 22nd 2008 12:34AM Not really related, but the other thing my bank alts get shoved in their faces surprisingly often is an invite to JOIN a guild. Strikes me as completely bizarre that someone would want me in their guild for the sole reason that I was standing next to them at the mailbox, but I have a standard response:

(accept invitation)

/g LOL

Apr 22nd 2008 12:14AM Voriman, sadly, you would be an epic failure as a raiding hunter if you value ARMOR above crit and AP.
