Dec 25th 2010 10:36AM Merry Christmas, folks! :)
Mar 29th 2008 3:15PM I have to admit, as a (druid) tank, this fight frustrates me a bit; it's especially nasty on Heroic, without the proper CC. My guildmates and I ran it a few times last night, though, and I discovered a good way of being useful: Cycloning and Bashing the living daylight out of as many of the mobs as I could while they whittled the rest down. I still wouldn't expect to one-shot the encounter on Heroic (without massive CC), but at least I feel a bit more crucial than I did before I realised the mobs had no true threat tables. At first, I just thought I was a bad tank!
Mar 13th 2008 3:17PM I actually had a conversation with a couple warriors in my guild the other day, and one of them was of the opinion that Prot warriors have been marginalized to a degree by the viability of druid and paladin tanks. It's a delicate subject, to be sure.
If someone is willing to indulge me, however, are druids considered "AOE tanks"? I realise that everyone thinks Swipe is awesome, but I have the damnedest time keeping large groups of mobs paying attention to me -- am I just a crappy bear, or is there something I'm missing here? I don't think there's any disagreement that paladins are king when it comes to large pulls, but the implication in this article is that druids are vastly superior over warriors at holding four or more mobs, and -- in my experience -- that's not true.
Can anyone offer further insight?
Mar 12th 2008 2:12AM @ Swarfy: I'd recommend giving up some Defense for more armour and/or Agility, if possible. Although there is some benefit in having more than 415 Defense -- it increases your dodge slightly, and your chance to be missed -- you're far above what you need to be in crit reduction, and it may be hurting you in other important areas (e.g. dodge).
As for hit rating, I can't say I know offhand what the "cap" is for tanking druids; what I will say is that, realistically, you're not going to hit whatever the cap is while keeping your other tanking stats where they need to be. It's frustrating, but my recommendation is to get +hit on items when you can (such as the Waistguard of the Great Beast, as mentioned by BBB) and pray that it's enough. I really, really wish there were more +hit and expertise available on our tanking gear. :-/
