Dec 20th 2008 2:09AM There are a number of mobs & critters in battlegrounds, and I get 'credit' for group kills; I also have grouped with people for Spirits of Auchindoun (bone waste towers), which credits me for group kills, and sometimes I'll group in a city to find someone (and they can e.g. kill a squirrel while grouped with me). Plus, as I stated in the article, when Noor was a zombie during the Scourge event, she killed creatures as a zombie.
The only creatures I know of that I've killed are:
A scourge cockroach in Stormwind that I accidentally clicked on;
about four Murlocs that my battle chicken killed when I tried using it to tank them while I opened lockboxes (not sure if I get credit for that or not, as I couldn't loot them);
Techbot, which I "killed" (with my fishing rod and bombs) because the quest says he gets fixed later;
Just today, a broken skeleton in the Bone Wastes, because I had the Soul Split:Evil debuff. Didn't get any XP because it was gray.
Also, when I use bombs that would kill any critters in the blast area.
Nov 19th 2008 12:05PM Oops, the belt absorbs 4k damage for 8 seconds, not 8k damage (when it works, of course).
Nov 19th 2008 11:57AM Necro, here's what I do in BGs:
WSG: I almost always run the flag, drinking a free action potion first, and using goblin rocket boots and sprint (twice if needed with Prep), plus Nitro Boost shoes and the golden hare trinket, and the slight movement speed enchant on all my boots (except goblin rocket boots). I still wear two Freezing Bands, currently have about 13K health at level 70, and can heal myself on the run for about 1K (without pots) and use my nigh-invunerability belt to absorb 8k damage (plus ice and flame deflectors that stop 600 frost and 500 fire damage). When my engineering is done and I have the mats stocked for a motorcycle, I'll go back to herbalism which will let me self-heal for 2K more and shield another 1k.
AB: I tend to ninja flags, and I actually pay attention to what's happening and let people know what's in danger.
AV: I help take & keep towers for the most part, tossing a banner by Galv as I go past.
EotS: Haven't done too many, and taking flags is usually a group effort. But I try to ninja horde towers to gray at least, and run the flag if that strategy looks viable (but in alliance in my battlegroup, it usually isn't).
I can prevent flag capping in AB and AV by interrupting flag cappers and vanishing/running out of combat, and restealthing. They can't cap the flag until I'm dead, and they can't kill me until they can find me. I can also release my combat chicken to peck at them, which prevent flag capping. It can be a more effective method than trying to kill them, especially if the other player is many levels higher, or you're outnumbered. For multiple flag cappers, I use bombs that stun, oil of immolation pots, and whatever the cloak is that does area fire damage for 15 seconds. Or I just him them each in turn with my mug o' hurt.
Here are some clips of Noor doing AB:
Nov 18th 2008 9:49PM Justin, did I have either the Evil Twin or the Split Soul:Evil teleporter debuff? I attack horde during the Terokkar tower daily if I do, but if I hit you, it was with my Mug o' Hurt, I haven't used a dagger since level 41. But in any case, I typically hit players to interrupt casting, or to try and apply mind-numbing poison, I can't do a great deal of damage. I usually run around, throw ice grenades (or flash bombs for druids), use my gnomish net-o-matic, or blind/sap/gouge people.
Ugkil, it's possible for me to hit other players, because in PvP, actual weapon skill is not used. Don't ask me why.
Sep 18th 2008 1:31PM Will Blizzard please allow these in Azeroth? They don't fly, there shouldn't be any reason not to allow them...
Apr 9th 2008 10:18AM I'll bet that Dinesh isn't concerned about all those astronomy courses that teach orbital mechanics by only referring to impersonal forces like gravity, completely excluding the possibility that angels push the planets around in their orbits, as his church used to teach.
Feb 13th 2008 10:04AM Hey, Noor the Pacifist here, nice interview, Gweryc, I'll add a link from my blog soon.
It shouldn't suprise people to find out I also (some years back) created a large list of Magic: The Gathering infinite combos:
Jan 16th 2008 9:20PM
Myntris, I tried something like that at first (machines, undead, elementals were ok), but that wasn't very different from regular play. I have done one quest (Save Techbot's Brain!) where I "killed" Techbot, but I justified that in game terms because Overspark wanted his brain in order to fix it and restore Techbot to normal. That'll show up in the blog when Noor hits 30 in a few days.
Since there aren't any real rules on what a "pacifist" is in WoW, people can make up their own terms. I've changed my terms a bit as I've actually tried various things.
Reinisch is much more a pacifist in roleplaying terms. He won't be throwing bombs in battlegrounds, just playing a medic (there are actual pacifists who have been wartime medics, like Desmond Doss who won a congressional medal of honor). Other players have leveled healers that only heal, but do quests that require killing by being in groups.
Noor is more like a spy, reluctantly using violence when needed. She's more of a pacifist in game-playing terms, where her absence of any weapon skills shows up in the armory, much like Gutrot's and Gweryc's skills show their self-imposed limits.
The best combination of available quests and roleplaying would be an Alliance healing class, as Alliance have more nonviolent quests, and a healer in battlegrounds is useful while still being true to pacifism.
As an aside, I think it would be interesting to have a pacifist faction (in WoW or another MMORPG), where they have quests for you, but only if you don't kill anything while you do them. They give you a buff that you need to turn in the quest, and the buff goes away if you kill anything (or drop the quest). If you kill something while you have their buff, you fail the quest, and they refuse to give you any more quests.
I think it would be even more interesting if you could ask to join them, and they indicate that you have too much blood on your hands to be acceptable to them (thus hinting that a pacifist character could join them -- a hidden, "lifelong" quest). But there would need to be more nonviolent quests to make it possible without battlegrounds, and have a minimum experience level before they will consider you, so you can't just corpse-run a level 3 to them.
Jan 10th 2008 1:32AM Ugar, I'm sorry if I made you cry. But you seem to be ignorant of battlegrounds.
First, I'm level 29, so I can't get into Alterac Valley. Your ignorant remark about me sitting in the cave in AV shows you don't even know the BG brackets.
Second, a rogue in WSG with engineering can be a very good flag carrier. I drink a free action potion, grab the flag, sprint, and I'm out. I use both kinds of rocket boots, gnomish harm prevention belt, net-o-matic (and if I get caught, I just use escape artist), etc.
Third, in AB, I ninja flags, and I can actually stave off horde from capturing a flag for quite a while by interrupting their cap and running off to stealth or vanishing, and coming back. They can't take the flag until I'm dead, and they can't kill me until they can find and catch me.
Finally, your assertion that I have no effect in BGs because I don't do damage shows you're the kind of BG idiot who fights out in the middle of nowhere in WSG and AB to "do the most DPS" instead of achieving the GOAL of those battlegrounds, which are the FLAGS.
Jan 9th 2008 6:59PM Noor/Reinisch/Gummo here, just replying to things in chronological order...
Urthona, I first tried a toon that would kill things that weren't "alive", like undead, demons, etc. but that wasn't much different from regular play. But in "They're Alive! Maybe..." Noor had to "kill" Webbed Creatures to free whatever was inside, so she whacked them open with her fishing rod.
Lintilla, I created an alt on your server and sent you some in-game mail when I noticed your 1-person guild was also called The Pacifist and you had very low weapon skills, but I didn't get a reply and I eventually deleted that alt.
Wrenzo, I DO have a dwarf named Rococo (with his pets Rocky and Tirebiter) on Stormreaver! Shoes for Industry!
Carl, there seems to be no minimum level for gathering professions, Noor is now a master miner with a skill of 310.
Zugs, yes, healers are easier to do (though mine doesn't group except for BGs)
Hey Squishy & Ben, cry harder. Comparing my win percentage for the 20-29 bracket in WSG and AB versus my battlegroup's percentage shows that I win a little bit more often than the average Alliance player in my battlegroup:
WSG me=46.66% vs. 45.29%
AB me=39.29% vs. 34.24%
Puntable, I wish I could use Sap, but that'll make my dagger (or whatever melee weapon) skill go up.
Hi Mindranor, haven't been Gummo much lately though...
