Jun 24th 2009 4:31AM I'll probably check out some of her music when I'm not at work. Feel free to inform me if things work differently in Brazil than they do here (EU) but I know a good few really talented DJs that game, WoW or otherwise, and they would just NEVER get offered a job at a party or club because frankly, they're so ubergeek that they are pretty unpresentable.
Take, for example, a friend of mine who has recently made little waves on local-media and internet channels for his creative use of the theramin (to play GH, RB and Mario with so far). He had to post his videos cropping out his face because when he posted his first one people ignored the theramin and just talked about how he looked. Next thing he posts a couple vids with his head cropped and suddenly he's in the newspaper and Kotaku, Awesomer etc. People now say things like "cool shirt" (Portal) and "wow i never heard of a theramin before" (probably the same ppl who commented on his first video with "zomg u fraek!")
Gz to Aspeth. I didn't say any of the things above to belittle her achievements or work, like I say I will be checking them out when I get home. To all the ppl saying that she shouldn't be profiled here because she doesn't play enough WoW - I see their point, they obviously want a little 15 minutes themselves to talk about 3s comps, Mimiron healing and the price of Runed Orbs these days. That said I do agree with one point that Saint makes - the father story would have been both nice to read and very timely. After all 15 Minutes' notes do say "from the renowned to the relatively anonymous, the remarkable to the player next door." Let's get a player next door! Anyone know a business tripping parent that uses WoW to keep in touch/have fun with their family while they're away? Or maybe the World's Oldest WoW Player? "Back when I were a lad, MMOs were nowt but fields"
@Lisa, I really like this column. Human interest pieces are a really nice break from the dearth of datamining that's been happening recently :)
Jun 22nd 2009 10:38AM I thought it was pun-tastic! Hope Elizabeth did it intentionally. Unlike a friend of mine who recently wrote a review for Bejewelled 2 and abbreviated it to "BJ" unwittingly. This led to such gems as "otherwise authentic BJ experience", "you can’t say fairer than a free bit of BJ action" and "reinforce that warm fuzzy BJ feeling when you score high points"
Jun 17th 2009 3:38AM Do you have the page zoomed in? I found that that happened to me when I crtl-scrolled it to be larger.
May 22nd 2009 9:48AM How does it suck exactly? "Identical" means everyone is a replica of each other, "equal" I use to mean " Having the requisite qualities, such as strength or ability, for a task or situation", not in the mathematical sense of being exactly identical in value.
So if I was to say "I think Crusader Strike should be equal to Mortal Strike", that doesn't mean I want Crusader Strike to cause a healing debuff, which would be "I think Crusader Strike should be identical to Mortal Strike", it means that I think the skills should have equally good functionality in the situations in which they are used. (Sidenote: Crusader Strike in its current form IS equal to Mortal Strike - they're both strong spells to use in a melee combat scenario, albeit one of them is "boring")
May 22nd 2009 9:02AM Can't Ret just be Ret? I'm getting so tired of this "everyone must be equal" attitude that is seriously hampering my enjoyment of the game. At the moment it is a bursty, simple physical DPS class, what's wrong with that? If you want to play a melee class with a more complex rotation, then go Mutilate Rogue or Feral Cat. Fancy a middle ground? Enh Shaman or Fury Warrior. Want something that's light on button mashing, but that (if you are willing to put in the effort) has outstanding utility? Welcome to being a Ret Pala.
Feral Cats and Muti Rogues do DPS. Almost exclusively in fact. They have to spend all of their mental and physical resources to do the best DPS they possibly can. Ret Palas are not similarly afflicted with this issue - their DPS is very easily managed and leaves them with free GCDs to give some of the following advantages to the raid:
- AoW instant FoL heals
- Sacred Shield
- Hand spells (Prot, Sac, Salv, Free)
- Divine Sac/Aura Mastery
- Instant 100% heal + mana
The way I've always seen Ret Palas is as a support class. They can solo well, and I like that, but they excel when among the largest groups of players so their percentile buffs (of which I feel they have the most of any class, besides perhaps shaman?) become exponentially better. Remember the Sunwell? Ret Palas do, they finally started getting some spots!
I agree with the damage buff they received because it allowed them to compete for spots in 5 and 10 man content. I was devastated when once again PvP balance messed around with what I felt was an alt I was really enjoying, but the devs in their infinite mercy didn't overreact, made a difficult call and while Exorcism having separate PVE and PVP functionality isn't ideal, for me it's far more preferable than taking a damage hit so people can have PVP matches that last longer.
Side Pala Chat:
I don't raid on my ret pala yet, so as far as the SoC/SoB debate goes, I'm a SoC man. Sure I'll use Blood if I go to a raid, and in a 5 man I would tend towards asking the group if they would mind if I just stuck with SoC, as it's easier and arguably better on stunnable trash, especially if a rogue is in your group. I'd also prefer them to "fix" SoC than to remove it, as it's clearly the grinder's choice of seals. I wanted to make my pala as bursty as possible since I'm an engineer and therefore have off-GCD rockets on my gloves, so I picked up Darkmoon Card: Death. It's not uncommon for me to let loose 12k+ in the first swing of Judge-Rocket-Autoattack-Deathproc (even nicer if they're stunned). I'm not even well geared (Hoolahoop on EU armory, Tarren Mill server, if you want to see) but I feel really nicely powerful, without being ridiculous (takes the pala 4 spells to do the damage my Ele Shaman could do in 2-3)
May 15th 2009 11:18AM Yeah Wolf don't be such a douche. Did some stoners ask you for a bite of your pizza or something? BTW Tech, the fireworks are a horrible idea lol! Last thing anyone wants when they've got a buzz on is unexpected flashes and bangs! Also better get some scantily clad dudes in there for the laydees (although, my horde brethren might wanna just go exclusively to Silvermoon and I don't recommend any allies travelling to Ironforge during this holiday). Right now we'll just have to improvise with plenty of Tasty Cupcakes and the occasional unavoidable Haunted Herring :P
May 15th 2009 11:12AM "They have not covered the major holidays. St Patricks Day? "
NOT a major holiday! It's a very popular holiday because it has been distilled to be about drinking, but it's no more important than St Andrew, St George or the Welsh saint (sorry Wales, brainfail)
"I would love to see other culture holidays, like Hannukah."
Winter Veil encompasses all the joy of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc with absolutely NONE of the religious nonsense! Awesome! If you wanna make Winter Veil inexplicably Jewish, buy some Bladespire Bagels!
"And what about like, Teacher Day, Martin Luther King Junior Day? "
World Teacher's Day is 5th October, so not great timing. MLK day is American only, and in January.
"I personally think Brewfest is a pretty cool holiday that they made up. "
See Wikipedia, Oktoberfest :)
I think that Kisirani has done a really good job with the World Events. Any more and we won't be able to go on holiday IRL! If there had to be another one tho, International Talk Like A Pirate Day would be nice, as would Sysadmin Day (The GMs get to ticket US!!!)
Dream one would be a November Diwali-knockoff, Festival of the Light. Featuring the usual clothes, snacks and drinks on offer at world events, fun sidelines could include: /love to 5 cows as a daily quest; ritual bathing to get a buff; a demon boss called Narakasura appearing in the depths of Hellfire Citadel (or somewhere similar); and millions of lanterns and firecrackers adorning Azeroth
May 7th 2009 8:33AM 4 80s (priest, shaman, paladin, DK) with no time to raid sadly, so I do fishing dailies + cooking dailies on 2 chars, argent tournament on a different 2, a fair amount of achievements on my priest main, every world event going, next title will be Seeker closely followed by Loremaster. (unless argent tournament is fast)
May 6th 2009 4:24AM I really hope the high-and-mighty types posting here have never watched, downloaded or bought a pirate song/tv show/movie if we're getting all "If ANY of that gold is taken from hacked accounts, the act of buying it makes you implicit in the crime.".
Goldselling when the gold has been acquired in legal, honest means (farming, trading, etc) is a bit of a grey area - there are compelling arguments to allow it, to make it official, and to ban it outright. There are plenty sellers I'm sure who do just this - the "honest" way if you will. The sellers that do not practise these methods are pretty much the same as corrupt Wall Street traders, chop-shop mechanics, or hookers that dose you and leave you kidney-less in a bathful of ice - one way or the other their proceeds are going to TERRORISTS people! :O
Really tho, since we don't have enough work for everyone at the moment anyways, let the boys play eh?
