Feb 13th 2009 4:24AM Weak relationships?
The friends I made in WoW are real friends just like all other friends. That I can't afford to meet them face to face makes them no less friends. In fact, I quite take offense to my friendships with them being in any way called 'less'. And I know I am by far not the only one.
Playing a (potentially) international video game together with millions of other people gives us something that makes any relationship extremely strong: choice. We cannot chose who lives near by in our city, we cannot chose who we are related to. If none of these people are true friend 'material' we are out of luck and have to 'make do' . I know quite a number of people who suffer from that.
We can, however, chose who we guild with, party with, chat with, and thus we can chose those as our friends that we truly relate to, without the boundaries of location, blood or culture.
I argue that relationships on such a multimillion video game are exactly as strong as the people who make and have them want them to be. Not a smitten less.
Feb 10th 2009 1:47PM Ah, I see.
(I didn't have a character with throwing weapons at the time of the patch, so I didn't know.)
Feb 10th 2009 1:23PM I ... don't get it.
Once upon a time, throwing knives/axes were consumed as well and they changed them to non-consumed, so obviously -that- function already existed somewhere.
Yet, everything else will be in the patch but not that?
I'm not coder, but that seems illogical. Any clear ups offered?
Feb 10th 2009 2:23AM Society just can't make it out of the 90s.
Feb 8th 2009 8:27AM Silver-thread Robe. It's elegant, classy and looks good on nearly everyone. (I don't know about male dwarves...)
Feb 6th 2009 5:24AM I actually made one character with explicitly that in mind. His name is Gundrikkir. He makes pewpew. (Anyone who still shortens him to Gund needs a firm smack on the head. )
Feb 6th 2009 5:11AM Moh-ree-hee-me, if you want to stay true to the Japanese roots ;)
Feb 6th 2009 4:54AM As a German in an American guild, I run into this all the time. Pronunciations that seem perfectly logical to me are way out there for my American friends. For example, the idea that emphasis could be on anything else but the first syllable.
That's one of the reasons I just tell people to call me by my own nick instead of my character names these days.
Feb 5th 2009 10:34AM I don't know about the US, but here in Germany, even cable internet can be a lot cheaper a month than most other services and forms of entertainment out there. For the amount I pay for cable -and- WoW every month, I can go to the cinema with my husband... once. Or eat out. Once. Or buy two DVDs. Our monthly allotted food shopping budget is ten times as much as the costs of internet for us both and WoW for me, and we are certainly anything but luxury shoppers.
Of course people will keep playing... they get daily entertainment, social contact and often a sense of fulfillment, all for a fragment of what it costs to -eat-.
Feb 5th 2009 5:05AM I feel the same.
It just got boring. I have no interest running the same Elder route yet again, rep and Achievement be damned.
