The Care and Feeding of Warriors: One warrior's view of the Call to Arms {WoW}

May 7th 2011 4:30PM Great post. It's not great skill but great attitude that really makes a huge difference to the cohesiveness and effectiveness of a group.

The Light and How to Swing It: Tanking Blackwing Descent for paladins, part 1 {WoW}

May 2nd 2011 10:44AM "Why would you ignore hit but gear for expertise?!? "

Because once you're vengeance kicks in, they both seem to be fairly irrelevant, as Dylan has noted and I've already confirmed with my hit.

Some tanks (like Matt) seem to be minor glyphed for both seal of truth and insight though. This leads me to believe that they might open with seal of truth and then switch to seal of insight once their threat and vengeance are fully engaged. Maybe Matt can elaborate on this in a later post. If this works well though then you'd sort of get the best of both worlds, fairly solid pulls / initial threat and strong survivability.

May 2nd 2011 1:32AM Dylan, many thanks for your reply. I was aware of hit not being that necessary but no where have I read (on a variety of cataclysm pally tank guides, including Matts) does it specifically say you don't need expertise. Actually most have said to get 26 with expertise which is frustrating if you don't actually need it, especially since that's a considerable amount of points that can go into mastery instead.

Apr 30th 2011 8:42PM Drkstrider: Very cool. Always wanted to try this because we've finished off fights with my pally tanking both bosses a couple of times (as our other tank bit the bullet near the end).

Apr 30th 2011 8:27PM Matt: This is probably a bit off topic but it does relate to raiding. Why is it when I look at a lot of top tier pally tanks (359 - 372 gear), they have like almost zero expertise and some don't even use the Seal of Truth glyph (+10 expertise)? For example, your paladin character, Rhidach, only has 12 expertise (2 + 10 from glyph).

I thought being expertise capped (26) was critical, particularly for raiding.

EVE's anti-lag Time Dilation concept explained {Massively}

Apr 29th 2011 1:18PM @Xilmar: Can you explain how this works a bit more? I'm assuming you meant to say "time dilations ISN'T going to be system wide" because you said you had to be in that zone to experience it. So if only people in that zone / area are affected by it, how do they "resync" with the universal time afterwards? In effect, yes you would slow down local game time to deal with the battle but after the battle wouldn't the local game time in that area need to be sped up to resync with the rest of the universal game time? Or am I missing something obvious here?

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Cataclysm tanking, part 2 {WoW}

Mar 27th 2011 6:48PM Agree with Zinn and Stilhelm. I've played a prot warrior for years and loved their capabilities, even if it was a little challenging at times. With the changes in Cataclysm, however, I find I'm spending way too much time focused on gaining and holding threat at the expense of losing situational awareness.

Luckily I have a prot paladin alt which has now become my main. Pulling and holding threat (even with barely any hit or expertise) is fairly easy and straightforward as a paladin, especially due to the auto-smart capabilities of the avenger's shield which won't break existing CC's. Also both the Avenger's Shield and Hammer of the Righteous are "solid" threat generators with just a single strike, whereas I have to use multiple abilities (sometimes multiple times) to gain gain solid threat as a warrior.

Without a doubt, I'm extremely sad to give up my warrior identity and unique abilities (i.e. charge, intercept, etc) but on the other side of the coin, I'm absolutely loving my paladin raid support abilities such as auras, off healing, and raid wide dmg mitigation. For me, being able to off heal a healer and keep them up so that they can keep me up is a simple amazing feeling.

So like the others have indicated, if you want ease into tanking, I'd recommend a prot paladin rather than a prot warrior. The flip side though is that if you can learn to tank with a prot warrior, tanking with other classes will probably be pretty easy for you in comparison.

Headless Horseman pumpkin shrine crashes game {WoW}

Oct 18th 2010 7:07PM My friends and I are all from the same server and we experienced the cogwheel crashing bug doing the random daily (via the dungeon finder).

Headless Horseman pumpkin shrine crashes game {WoW}

Oct 18th 2010 10:48AM I was getting repeated lockups (at the start of instances after laying down food) with a complete new reinstall of the game and with no addons installed whatsoever. So it can't be directly tied to addons.

Game Developers Choice Online Awards to knight Richard Bartle as a "Game Legend" {Massively}

Aug 16th 2010 4:33PM Richard, or anyone else, can you tell me if that presentation (as viewed in the picture above) is readable online at all? I'm particularly intrigue by your thoughts on culture. Thanks.
