Jan 23rd 2012 10:20AM Heck, this could just be them considering making this game F2P. They might just have ads in-lobby, much like battle.net lobbies have had for years now.
May 9th 2011 7:01PM @Witkin Whoever told you that Starcraft 2 uses the same engine as WoW, or that Diablo 3 uses the same engine as either, was wrong.
Whoever told you that what art assets look like in an engine depends more on the engine than the shaders used and the models/art put into it was wrong.
What the game looks like has far, far more to do with what the artists put into it than anything else. If you think the game 'looks' like SC2, it's because the artists chose to make it look like that, or because they're using a similar shader on the assets. It has next to nothing to do with the engine itself.
Mar 7th 2011 12:01AM Actually, they do play a part in Arthas' decision to destroy the town. However, most people skipped that part once the option was in:
They disguised the Plagued Grain crates that caused Arthas to investigate in the first place. We had to dispel the illusion to get Arthas to decide to cull Stratholme.
Mar 6th 2011 11:53PM You could be right.
I'm under the impression that the Nexus War came about because Malygos RECOVERED his sanity in the modern day (as of Wrath, anyways. Due to something involving Nether Drakes, IIRC.). He then realized that irresponsible magic use has been causing tremendous amounts of damage and decided that magic use had to be restricted/stopped. Most people outside of the Blue Dragonflight thought this was too extreme, and the Nexus war arose as a result of this conflict of opinions.
Since he made this choice after becoming sane, even if the Blue Dragonflight was rescued the events would still occur... but (maybe) not at the same point in time. Though Dalaran moving to Northrend to fight the Lich King would probably be a decent trigger for such an outburst, anyways.
Then again, there are other possibilities that could arise, even if the Nexus War wouldn't happen.
1. The assassination attempt happens after the slaughter of the Blue Dragonflight, so that doesn't actually change. Something else causes the disturbance at the Nexus. (Since this is all just wild guesswork since that content isn't out yet, always a possibility)
2. The blues being alive and populous changes history in a different way; in WC3:TFT, Arthas is brought to a swift end in his rush to assist the Lich King because of the interference of Blue Dragons guarding Northrend. Assuming that the Blue Dragons don't go after the Lich King even sooner than that. The event at the nexus is a result of either this change or just a result of the population increase, since the nexus/Eye of Eternity is the blues' stronghold in Azeroth.
Mar 6th 2011 9:25PM I guess if the War of the Ancients goal is both killing Deathwing and saving the Blue Dragonflight from him, it would explain the disturbance up at the Nexus mentioned in the datamined MMO-Champion content. If the blues in the future were suddenly much stronger/populous, we might've lost the Nexus War, or had to invest much more effort in it. And we might've lost against the Lich King as a result.
Mar 6th 2011 9:20PM A bit less likely, but I could also see the Infinite's actions as trying to prevent Bolvar as a free Lich King.
If it wasn't for Thrall and the New Horde's support, the Legion would have won at Hyjal. If it wasn't for the Legion's defeat at Hyjal, the Lich King probably wouldn't have been free of Archimonde/the Legion's rule.
And if the Horde hadn't come at all, odds are there wouldn't have been a Lich King in the first place.
If it wasn't for Arthas going to Northrend, the Lich King wouldn't have had its champion and gotten free.
Can't comment on War of the Ancients because we don't know HOW the Infinite will be interfering. For all we know, they won't be trying to change the winner, but will be trying to... I dunno, assassinate Deathwing, save the Blue Dragonflight, take out some important Ancients after they've played their part in the war. Which would just be even more confusing for trying to figure out their motives.
Man, if their goal in War of the Ancients is killing Deathwing, that would especially be confusing. It would kind of fit their MO of preventing an immediate disaster while causing issues in the long term. Maybe they're trying to prevent Thrall from becoming the next Aspect of Earth...
Jan 27th 2011 7:32PM I actually imagine most of these questions aren't the type that will be answered by the CDev post; it seems like the kind of thing they'll want to elaborate on in-game as lore progresses.
A lot of these questions seem like #2 or 3, and they only are trying to answer #4.
Dec 17th 2010 1:38PM Faction? Probably. It's pretty likely that I'd be playing a Dwarf if not for my Horde friends.
Server type? Definitely. I rolled PVP back before battlegrounds existed thinking there'd be no way of getting PVP if I was on a PVE server. Now that there's BGs (among other things), I'd much rather be on PVE so I could level in peace. But I'm not rerolling while all my friends are staying on PVP.
Nov 16th 2010 1:14AM I noticed that during the TB event, Aponi was running around with a pally seal active and, on occasion, Wings up. I know he's a pally trainer in Cata, but it looks like he's got it pretty figured out already :-p
Oct 12th 2010 1:50PM Sounds good.
