Oct 11th 2010 4:58PM Glad to contribute Sera! It's a good cause, and I've always really enjoyed your writing here, so it's nice to feel like I'm giving something back =)
Sep 21st 2010 12:39PM I'm actually happy to read both the positive and negative comments - that's what this section is for, to hear people's opinions.
As someone who tried beta and was shocked at its dull and unplayable state, I now keep an eye on comments to see what improvements have been made, and if they are significant enough to warrant another look at FFXIV.
As far as being off-topic goes...it's an article about the end of beta and immanent launch; most comments are about what did and did not get resolved in beta. Seems close enough to "on-topic" to me.
Sep 12th 2010 11:42PM Brilliant! I second that nomination, and support FFXIV as the first winner of that nickname.
Sep 10th 2010 4:01PM I tried the beta and agree with Brian, it's a pretty limited world. I think younger kids (maybe 12 and under?) will love it, but they have lost the charm that makes even adults willing to play Lego Harry Potter, or Lego Rock Band. It's not that there's railroading - each island is open to fully explore: but the islands, altho distinct, seem very small.
Sep 4th 2010 7:33PM Perhaps the different starting zones vary in difficulty. I don't want my hand held, but the zone I started in was ridiculously obtuse. If you were lucky and talked to the right guy, in the right order, he asked you to use the gate leaving the city. A gate not on any map, in a large city of two levels. You had to talk to the guy, follow him, talk to him again, talk to other people, then somehow know to talk to him again. It was a good hour of running around talking to reaaaallly boring NPCs to discern what the goal was and where the gate was. (And why are the NPCs so dull? They say the most generic stuff). Guildleves consist of standing around a glowing stone, then killing rats. Yes, the first one is kill rats. Where is the story? Aion and Conan, for all their faults, started with a bang, thrusting you into an engaging and exciting storyline
Sep 4th 2010 1:15PM This article was interesting and informative - now PLEASE address the ridiculous UI!! Why does the mouse float around like a laggy Mickey-Mouse-glove? What is up with the immersion-breaking menu that players have to pop up to do almost any action? I've heard that the game is designed around a game controller, as opposed to a keyboard...but hello, pc users use keyboards, and this UI is beyond horrible.
Aug 17th 2009 9:22PM I'm sorry for your loss. Your post makes me wonder though....you came to help your mother because she needed a PERSON there, someone to physically drive her to the hospital or make a meal. I realize that you are not advocating virtual friends instead of real-life ones, but there are only so many hours in the day; each hour we spend online is one we're not hanging out with our rl peeps. As we forge closer and closer ties to our virtual friends, who is going to drive us to the hospital some day?
Jul 3rd 2009 5:52PM Here in Cali, a 5150 is the code for an involuntary 72hour hold in a mental institution. Doesn't really make me want to try an MMO, but whtaevs.
Jun 28th 2009 12:54PM Thanks for the loot - I love Massively, btw! Great site.
