Why is Blizzard still OK with gender inequality in World of Warcraft? {WoW}

Apr 3rd 2012 5:45PM Having run through the starter area several times, I personally found the comment funny. I did laugh, and I shared a chuckle with a friend; I did read the comment as somewhat ham handed flirting, but I also read it as "you're gorgeous/handsome, *so am I*, lets go be badasses together" -- because that's very much the kind of hot headed hero-type he is in the rest of the quest chains that follow. I personally liked being greeted as a comrade-in-arms with a little friendly teasing rather than having a brotherly figure. I never once felt threatened by his presence, and I enjoyed his interactions with Aysa. He was trying too hard to be charming, and how well he succeeded...Well, ymmv on that one.

That does not mean that I think the OP's read of the line is in any way invalid. Quite the contrary! I can see exactly what made her concerned, and even if it didn't apply to me personally, it's completely valid and should be considered seriously, without being dismissed with handwaving or excuses. I definitely applaud her for posting about it on the official forums.

WoW is one of the leading game developers in the world, and this is the sort of thing it should be a leader in addressing when it comes to story tropes. And in spite of people believing the contrary: every voice matters to them. I sincerely hope they take this on board.

(I also think that the initial dialogue lines read awkwardly, possibly due to a missing word or three, and needs a good proof reader pass. In full context, Ji's line feels a little over the top as a greeting, particularly compared to the rest of the way he treats you throughout the starter story line.)

Today in WoW: Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 {WoW}

Aug 16th 2011 7:10AM Man, I can't believe you guys haven't reported about the 2011 Blizzard Writing Contest yet! They announced it yesterday (Monday).

Jul 8th 2011 4:08PM Question for the Q: Has Lady Naz'jar /always/ had an extended speech before you turn in the quest "Final Judgement", that announced to all that the Battlemaiden had been elevated in status and is now Champion of Azshara -- and named Nar'jira?

I've done this quest twice before and never learned her true name, but on my third alt leveling through there today, I was pleasantly surprised! Have I just always handed in the quest too early or is this a new addition?

PS What's the best we get to fight her in a future Queen Azshara raid? :D

Jul 8th 2011 1:51PM What's happening with the WoW Insider weekly podcast? In the past, it's usually been released on a Tuesday, meaning I have something to look forward to while I'm at work or waiting on maintanence to finish. But for the past couple of weeks, it's been pushed back -- RL delays kicking in there, or is the new weekly wrap-up on Fridays being folded in with the general discussion?

The Queue: Go away, Nozdormu, nobody likes you {WoW}

Jul 6th 2011 5:54PM What is interesting, with Nozdormu, is if you look at his flavour text when speaking to him before completing the first of the Thrall quests, it very specifically states that he looks *ill*.

The last time someone wasn't feeling well, it was Krasus, or rather, a very young version of him, back in time when there was more than one version present in the same time space.
