Sep 24th 2010 5:59PM This quest line also holds the dubious title of being the first time we heard the "catering to casuals" battlecry.
Hard core players threw a hissy fit over this chain, arguing it devalued their self-proclaimed monopoly over the "proper gaming experience." A raiding guild on my server even disbanded over it. "MY EPIC LOOTZ IS NOT EPIC IF ANYONE CAN GET IT!!!"
The funny part was that the time commitment involved to complete the chain made it anything but casual. Farming cash for weeks on end is not a casual activity. Accessible outside of raiding? Barely. The 45 minute run was TOUGH if you did not have raid gear. But casual? Absolutely not.
Oh, how the times have changed.
Mar 21st 2010 6:05PM Regarding dark pact:
DP is quite literally the only group buff warlocks have. From a utility standpoint, we have one buff and two debuffs we can provide and two of them are spec dependent. Shamans, by contrast, have a whole plethora of buffs they can provide in addition to resurrection and not to mention bloodlust.
The only reason to go demo is for dark pact and even then, you only need one lock to do it. Maybe it's less of a shaman problem and more of a warlock problem, but nerf DP and you will no longer see demo locks raiding. Sad, but true.
I guess this just means buff lock group utility, but you gotta see it from our point of view.
Mar 15th 2010 7:48PM Yes, but no insane SP buff that makes them drool all around the instance! Hey there, Mr. Mage, where'd you leave that jaw of yours? Oh, wait, it's back with Marrowgar!
Oh man... it's late in the day, 10 minutes left of work, been moving all weekend. Help me out here! ;)
Mar 15th 2010 7:24PM Oh and Demo spec brings all the mages to the yard. They will love you for it. True story.
But wait... who wants a bunch of smelly mages drooling all over you? Nevermind. Back to Affliction.
Mar 15th 2010 7:20PM My favorite part about Demonology is that there are all sorts of little tricks that encourage you to know the encounter to get the best use out of the spec. Most of these revolve around knowing when to press the Illidan button. You could probably write an entire article on this. Both destro and affliction are pretty bland by comparison. If you're getting tired of the monotony of either spec (especially destro, which is just nuke nuke nuke), I highly recommend Demonology.
Demo is also the only spec where your portal really shines. Create port, Illidan up, charge in, aoe everything to hell, port out when demo form is up, win.
Mar 5th 2010 5:38PM No, that's lightwell.
Mar 2nd 2010 1:03AM Please, read my reply further down.
Mar 1st 2010 8:46PM Right, I understand how itemization works for disc and holy. Moreover, I understand that some mage specs benefit more from gear with spirit and without +hit (because the cap is low, talents, etc) than "proper mage dps gear." I also understand that spirit is the second best dps stat for my warlock alt. Moreover, I understand that cloth is the best gear for specs like balance druids which "should" use leather. In the same way, really good melee dps gear for plate wearing classes like warriors is often not plate at all. I don't like it, but I understand it. Especially when you look at distribution of gear for healers (druids, shaman, and pallies only really compete with themselves), I don't like it.
Cataclysm is meant to rectify this. That was my point- that gear is ridiculously skewed.
Mar 1st 2010 7:08PM As a priest, you have to understand how awkward this reads. It's like a warrior saying "Hey guys, I use a ton of mail and leather and am a bit concerned with how itemization will turn out in Wrath. What do I do?"
Do as Rossi commandeth in the thread above this one... "Get rid of thine Mail, nub."
My advice to Mages would be similar.

o Renewed Hope and Demonic Pact: now has a 60-second duration, up from 20 seconds, but a 20-second cooldown.
Wait, does this mean they will be up for 60 seconds then down for 20 seconds, or that, once up, it just won't show up again for 20 seconds if it's removed somehow (dispel, clicking off, etc).
The former would be a pretty bad nerf. My demo lock would be crying. The latter would be a pvp nerf for disc and a pvp/pve nerf for demo (no more removing DP before Illustration of the Dragon Soul is ramped up).
