Officers' Quarters: Destructive criticism, part 2 {WoW}

Jul 26th 2010 7:58PM Nothing is more demeaning than the "how can we help you do your job" line.Please don't do that to someone. Its less demeaning to just straight out insult them. Heck, yell at them, call them and their ancestry names and accuse them of strange deeds with farm animals.

But never, ever, do that whole "how can we help you do your job" thing. Anyone with half a brain should be, and will be, highly offended. What are you going to do, come over here and push the buttons for me? Just tell me that my DPS is low (or whatever), maybe point me in the right direction to learn how to fix it.

Jul 19th 2010 6:20PM "so I find myself at least somewhat knowledgeable about the classes, but by no means do I consider myself an expert. I'll leave that to Elitist Jerks."

That part concerns me. The reader had healed raids on both a Shaman and Priest (had 1 max level Priests) but it sounds like they did not have expert-level advice to give. Before even stepping in to a raid, anyone serious at all about healing should have gone through the material at the EJ forums, and should probably be reading blogs specific to their class.
Think about it, all the time spent to get to 80, then get some gear, how many hours was that? Then to not spend 45 minutes learning how your class really functions in raids, thats just criminal.
What kind of advice can this person really give to other healers? How to be a mediocre and uninformed healer?

Wrath of the Lich King Retrospective: Naxxramas {WoW}

Jun 3rd 2010 6:17PM Only bad things you had to say were about the place feeling too spacious, the achievments and not pretty?

The first 2 of the 3 concerns, on which this article is based, are pretty legitimate. The third, maybe not so much. it being such an easy raid instance, coupled with there being no new raid content for far too long, are exactly why so many people got so tired of the place. They had to run it every week, for far too many weeks, with no new challenges.

Seriously man, you have got to be joking. When did you turn in to Super Fanboi?

Officers' Quarters: Not an officer {WoW}

Mar 29th 2010 4:00PM This is what I smelled cooking here too. The 'helpful' person with 'some good ideas' in this case sounds more like someone making a passive aggressive power grab. In 4 + years of leading WoW raiding guilds, I have seen it many times.

I still have yet to figure out what it is these people think they are going to -have- once they get this perceived power. It really is much like the comment above that your reward is more pie. That, and a whole lot of responsibility, along with a lot of extra stuff to deal with. No sane person, knowing what the job entails, would actively seek it out.

Raid Rx: A history of organizational healing, Part 2 {WoW}

Mar 5th 2010 1:10PM I think of WotLK healing as the era of GCD-based healing. With only one rank of each heal spell available, and mana rarely being an issue, the only way Blizzard could challenge healers was to create fights that forced healers to spam something, anything, just spam some heal at every... single... GCD.

I am not one of those reactionary types that wants "Vanilla Servers" or anything like it. WoW is an order of magnitude better now. However, I do think they screwed up big time when they took away healer downranking. When we had downranking, our decision process was much much richer. Killing downranking is exactly what led us to the GCD-based healing of today.

Shifting Perspectives: Changing Eclipse, part 2 {WoW}

Mar 5th 2010 12:43PM "Output" does not have a dash.

I know, I know, I'm being totally anal, call the grammar police, etc. It just drove me nuts every time I saw "out-put" in this article.

As far as the article goes, its nice to see some more actual math going here. The whole Eclipse situation is really sticky. There is not an elegant or clean way to fix it, or folks like the author, Graylo, etc, would have figured it out. It will not be fixed, and here is why:
There is no easy fix, probably no fix at all.
Only real solution is to scrap it as it is now, redesign it as something completely different.
Blizz is in love with their Eclipse, and will never ditch it.

So, we aren't going to see Eclipse fixed. It will undergo little tweaks, but it won't ever be 'fixed'.
