Feb 17th 2010 3:56PM Meliss Hussain did nothing hateful or defamatory when she reported on the harassment campaign she was experiencing at work. Apparently the kids and their parents were in complete agreement that a "Jesus hater" deserved harassment and abuse.
All Hussain did was report on what had happened. The commenters to her post were the only ones making unpleasant (though in my view, fully justified) remarks.
Science class is for SCIENCE, not bible-thumping and disrespectful disruption.
Aug 20th 2008 6:02PM Exactly. Do what's fun! This stuff about "Don't let anything get in the way of maximum leveling speed" is fine, if that's what you care about... but that doesn't make it "smarter" or "better."
Besides, professions are a good way to earn some coin for your leveling character. (I know, I know... "send money from your main!" No, thanks; I consider that cheating. Every one of my characters is on his/her own.)
Aug 19th 2008 6:53PM I don't have a main; I rotate among all my various characters as the mood strikes me. If my guild ever insisted I define a "main" and stick with it, I'd quit the guild.
Raiding? Progression? Couldn't care less. That's not what I'm playing for.
Apr 17th 2008 6:37PM Ganking and griefing occur simply because they're POSSIBLE on PvP servers. These cater to the lowest, cruelest, and least immature impulses of gamers (not that it takes much).
So the griefing epidemic seems inherent to the very concept of having PvP servers in the first place. You can't change human nature; you can only limit the opportunities to express it.
Apr 3rd 2008 9:19PM To answer the original question, "Are we the bad guys of Azeroth?"
Yes. Yes, you are.
Ganking and griefing ARE forms of PvP, and they reveal how immature, cowardly, and cruel the people who enjoy that sort of stuff are.
Other forms of PvP--"honorable duels" if you will--are, you'll notice, the only type of PvP available on non-PvP servers. There's a reason for that. People on normal servers want a bare minimum of civilized behavior in-game, and don't want to serve as fodder for someone else's pathetic insecurities.
It's a game, yes... but it's one with RULES, and one that EVERYBODY wants to enjoy. Not just you.
Apr 3rd 2008 9:10PM Agreed. Naming is CRUCIAL, people; a stupid or immature name automatically excludes you from being taken seriously, and results in a lot of automatic /ignores. (Certainly from ME!)
I refuse to help or even speak to anyone with idiotic names like Thudkilla or Slashyoass. In fact, I take special pleasure in reporting them every chance I get.
Apr 3rd 2008 9:01PM Best suggestion so far is to level up an opposite-faction character. You'll be seeing content that won't affect your paired characters, and you'll still get to play and have fun with others on YOUR schedule, rather than just hers.
Apr 3rd 2008 8:39PM Agreed. And when non-RP behavior IS reported, the offended LOL-er whines about "free speech" and "It's just a game."
I've made up characters on every RP server I can find--Argent Dawn, Sister of Elune, Silver Hand, Steamwheedle--and there's just no roleplaying to be found. It's sad, but for REAL roleplayinig, it looks like you still have to be around a tabletop.
Apr 3rd 2008 8:30PM I especially liked this comment: "The fact that someone would let that fabricated event affect their raiding or WoW time (which is much more important than the debatable future of our planet) is pretty absurd."
Irony meter pegged, then broke.
Mar 18th 2008 9:12AM So Jaina's in the race... great!
Now, how do we VOTE for her? She's not an option in any of the polls, and she was only added AFTER most folks had already voted in the Alliance poll.
