Breakfast Topic: Did the Patch 3.2 news bring you back to the Tournament? {WoW}

Jun 24th 2009 8:00PM So if I handed in The Valiant's Charge with a particular faction before I was exalted with them, the only way I can now get exalted for the Crusader title is by grinding runecloth, or grinding Champion's Writs?

Why the hell didn't Blizzard make it clear: DON'T HAND THIS IN UNTIL YOU'RE EXALTED!

Guildwatch: System error beep bop {WoW}

Jun 24th 2009 7:44PM I'm 37. I'm not old (Dennis!) but I'm not a young'un either.

I enjoy serious documentaries, political satire and raising my kids.

And I find the occasional teabag in WoW hilarious. Because I have a SENSE OF HUMOUR.

Patch 3.2 changes the tiered Emblem system {WoW}

Jun 20th 2009 7:41AM I'll still raid for the challenge. That's why I raid now. If someone's wearing the same gear as me, I'll know I earned mine the "hard" way, and I couldn't care less how s/he got theirs. S/he won't get a spot in my raid just cause be.imba.hu says their gear cuts it, that was never the case. I'll remember every wipe and hard-fought victory, and the little story each piece of my gear has attached to it, and that other person will remember grinding the daily dungeon over and over and handing in some tokens for some stats. It's not for me to say that my way is more meaningful than theirs, but it is for me, and that's all that counts to me.

The top end will still have their "Immortal" and "Twilight Vanquisher" titles to flash around, and good luck to them. They'll still be able to link their Yoggy achievement and tell you the story of how they got it. They'll still know, in their own minds, that they did it the way they preferred to. And if they want to dangle the e-peen a little, cut them some slack - they did something hard, and worked hard for it.

It will still be as it always was: skill, dedication, teamwork and a sense of humour are worth much more than gear to a raid. You will still have to prove you have those, or are serious about developing them, regardless of what you're wearing. Christmas trees don't keep raid slots.

Encrypted Text: Rogue tips for raiding Ulduar, part 2 {WoW}

Jun 10th 2009 8:25PM re Hodir:

While there are some useful pro tips in this article, if it's your first time definitely read up on wow(wiki|head) as well. The article makes no mention of what to do during Flash Freeze, and afterwards if any key players get frozen to break them out of iceblocks. Similarly you should consider saving your escapes (EMFH, CoS, Vanish) for when you're rooted by Freeze *and* are going to be hit by Icicles or Flash Freeze. Don't waste them on a Freeze otherwise, especially if you're still in melee range (and he has a big hitbox).

Re the starlight beams, note that you have to remain inside the effect to continue to get the buff. I made the mistake of thinking that it would stick around for a bit the first time I did Hodir.

Also note that your raid might be using a frost resist tank during Frozen Blows, and you should be careful with who's getting your Tricks as you don't want to pull the boss back to the normal tank accidentally.

Encrypted Text: Rogue tips for raiding Ulduar, part 4 {WoW}

Jun 10th 2009 7:12PM I'm glad the more recent iterations of this series are reading more like actual guides than just "pro tips". For example, as someone who saw the crazy cat lady and Hodir for the first time last night and was relying on the Encrypted Text guide to get me through them, I swiftly realised that there was much more to the fights than was covered in Part 2.

Looking forward to seeing these two now, sounds like fun.

WoW, Casually: Rating the classes for casuals {WoW}

Jun 3rd 2009 11:46PM IMHO if you are a casual player (and by that I mean that you have RL commitments that regularly and often without warning cut short or limit your playtime) then you should play a DPS class. Why? Simply because DPS are easier to replace if you need to bail out of a group or raid.

Encrypted Text: Rogue tips for raiding Ulduar, part 3 {WoW}

Jun 3rd 2009 11:38PM Nice article Chase. I've started using the offensive Vanish a lot more and with Overkill it's added a whole new dimension to my rotations. I've always had Feint on my N52, but am very happy with the latest changes to it.

Maintenance for Tuesday June 2nd {WoW}

Jun 2nd 2009 8:26AM me: "A random youtube link? Nah, there's no way Holisky would be infantile enough to rickroll people. I mean, that got reeeeaaaaallllly lame a long time ago."

click

+10 super lame

Seriously dude, if you're going to do it, at least do it in a creative way. You're like the grandpa who wears a Flavor Flav clock because he thinks the youth will think it's cool.

World of Warcraft Patch 3.1.3 Initial Patch Notes {WoW}

May 27th 2009 8:14PM This is for everyone who ever wore the nerf bat. Suck it up guys.

Sung to the tune of "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M.

EVERYONE GETS NERFED

When the maintenance is long
and the news from the PTRs seems wrong
and the patch notes talk of nerfs to your class
hang on

Don't let yourself QQ
'cause everybody cries
and everyone gets nerfed
sometimes
sometimes balance is all wrong
now it's time to sing along

when your salvation is gone
and you feel like speccing ret
and you think you've had too much of death knights
hang on

Everyone gets nerfed
take comfort in your skill
everyone gets nerfed

Don't whine on the official forums
ooooooooh no
Or if you do, at least whine in an amusing rap battle
When you feel like you're alone
2 million people playing warlocks say you're not alone

When your buffs are gone
and the cooldowns on your favourite skills are long
and you think you've had too much of death knights
to hang on

Everyone gets nerfed
sometimes everybody whines
everyone gets nerfed
sometimes
everyone gets nerfed
sometimes
so hold on
hold on
hold on
hold on
hold on
nerf hunters
hold on
hold on

everyone gets nerfed
