Lichborne: A Patch 3.1 talent build cookie platter for Death Knights {WoW}

Apr 27th 2009 2:51PM I'm approaching it as a raider. Relying on your tank to have a sudden burst of DPS is generally a failure plan. That point is so much better used in WP or somewhere else.

Lichborne: A Patch 3.1 talent build cookie platter for Death Knights {WoW}

Apr 27th 2009 10:44AM Concerning your Unholy tank build:
Why 2 points in Dirge? If you want more runic power, SoB is where it's at.

The 3 points in Reaping are confusing. You don't have the SS glyph to avoid needing to recast IT and PS. You're boosting your single target threat by adding another SS, but you'll likely want to use Pestilence and BB.

The point in Gargoyle. That's just a waste.

I recommend:

Dirge, Reaping, and Gargoyle are all wasted points, so let's take those six and throw them into Bladed Armor and Scent of Blood. The thing is, SoB is really powerful now, so maxing it out is nice for essentially endless RP. However, Bladed Armor is still an uber tank threat talent, so we steal a couple points from Wandering Plague to max out both. If you're in love with WP, it's pretty easy to steal a point each from BA and SoB.

Notice I replaced the Rune Strike glyph with the Glyph of Disease. Now that we refresh diseases on our target using Pest, that gets thrown into the rotation and once you've seeded your target with your diseases, there's no reason to revisit IT or PS.

Rotation:
IT -> PS -> Pest -> BB -> SS (first time only)
SS -> SS -> BB -> BB -> SS -> SS -> Pest -> BB (Repeat this line)

SoB is powerful enough that you can throw in UB to keep it up and still have enough RP to activate your cooldowns (IBF, AMS, etc.) while still binding Rune Strike to most of your attacks.

Totem Talk: 3.1 Shaman Gear Part 1 {WoW}

Apr 9th 2009 4:54PM Awesome. You recommend two rings with Strength on them. Great work Matt. Did you forget that you only get a single AP per point of Strength and the warrior/paladin/DKs in your raid will hate you? Wait... you think you're writing your warrior column, don't you?

Please, for the love of shamans, stop recommending the Glyph of Flame Shock for Elemental. It's a waste of a major glyph slot because it delivers no more DPS if you're not retarded (use LB just before your shock cooldown expires and refresh it as the next spell, that just saved you a glyph and trust me you want the Glyph of Lava, Glyph of Lightning Bolt, and Glyph of Flametongue Weapon).

As for the resto bonuses, I'd still rather have the T7 bonuses (especially the 4 piece because it scales with gear without the cost of chewing up extra mana because you're casting more often).

Death Knight changes in WoW Patch 3.1 PTR build 9733 {WoW}

Mar 27th 2009 5:45PM Kassu, you keep repeating that like it's in the game manual or something. The Improved Death Strike talent makes it a viable alternative to Obliterate, allowing you to dump points into Unholy to pick up Ravenous Dead, Epidemic, Morbidity, Necrosis, and BCB.

Why not do some analysis rather than repeat the "tanking and PvP tool" mantra?

Death Knight class and item changes changes in patch 3.1 PTR build 9684 {WoW}

Mar 13th 2009 3:55PM I dunno, so you don't have to spec down to annihilation in frost in order to DPS as blood? Nah. Too obvious.

Blessing of Wisdom and Mana Stream totem go exclusive {WoW}

Mar 11th 2009 7:03PM Totem of Wrath? Easily replaced by a Imp Divine Spirit or Demonic pact and Heart of the Crusader or Master Poisoner.

Wrath of Air? Easily replaced by Improved Moonkin form or Swift Retribution.

Windfury totem? Easily replaced by either of the above or Improved Icy Talons.

SoE? Horn of Winter.

Earthbind and Magma totems? Are you high? Earthbind is so situational and easily replaced by a hunter trap. And Magma? Sure, let's take away the only totem that might have some worth in Totem of Wrath or Flametongue by using what is still a fairly weak AoE.

As for tremor, raid leaders love when you throw that out on Instructor. Try it. It's good for hours of wiping hilarity.

About your best argument is the cleansing totem. And then there's bloodlust. What was once the best buffing class in game is now a middle of the road caster or DPS that gets shortchanged because it's a hybrid instead of pure DPS.

Blessing of Wisdom and Mana Stream totem go exclusive {WoW}

Mar 11th 2009 2:54PM Other than bloodlust, why bother bringing shamans anymore? All their buffs are the same as those brought by other classes, just with the limitation of distance from the totem being a problem and the possibility of losing the buff because the totem gets killed, doesn't get refreshed, or the shaman dying.

I'm not saying we need to go back to the days of shaman stacking, but Blizz is slowly but surely turning shamans into a liability instead of a strength, pushing essentially 100% of their value into bloodlust. Once they decide to push that into a couple other classes, there's no point in bringing them.

Undocumented glyph changes in 3.1 {WoW}

Feb 24th 2009 11:14AM As a DK tank, I was excited by the Plague Strike glyph because it's such a normal part of the rotation.

However, once you see the new Pestilence glyph, why would you bother using Plague Strike more than once? You have a brand new rotation for tanking.

IT -> PS -> Pest -> BB -> SS followed by repeating Pest -> BB -> SS -> SS

The only point to using Plague Strike would be for desecrated ground. I also hope this is in addition to the existing glyph (the extra range is pretty nice).

Totem Talk: And you will go forth with dual specs to conquer {WoW}

Feb 19th 2009 4:59PM "Are you going to take Healing Grace in your PvE resto build? (I do at times, but people keep telling me that the threat reduction isn't necessary and so ar they seem to be correct)"

You don't need to test it. It's been unnecessary since 3.0.2.

Ghostcrawler: "We still are not convinced that Warrior tanks are operating at some huge deficit" {WoW}

Feb 17th 2009 5:35PM DW tanking was a neat trick for the days before the Rune of Stoneskin Gargoyle to get up to the defense cap. Nowadays, you need to be half retarded to think it's a good idea.
