Wait...does not parse. Team? So now to do rated BGs you have to have a set team? I thought you could just queue up with any group of people as long as it was a premade. I can't imagine this being easy to coordinate getting a set team of 40 people or even 15 or 10. 5v5 is hard enough to coordinate.
Jun 10th 2010 11:14PM Nice article...just want to add a few thoughts.
To be highly competitive, it's going to take more than just having PVP gear, ventrilo, and communicating what's going on. Remember, you're going up against another team that most likely has PVP gear, ventrilo, and is communicating what's going on.
Effective teams will have a balanced composition of classes/specs that fits with the BG and strategy they will employ. Strategy is key. There are several valid strategies and counterstrats to Warsong Gulch, for example.
You might employ a few classes strong in snares and control such as a Boomkin, Frost Mage, and DK to sit in mid and control players passing through with snares, CC, deathgrip, etc. while meanwhile the bulk of the team goes to get the enemy flag, a tanking class grabs the flag and, supported by strong heals and dps, move their way down the field intercepting the enemy flag carrier along the way.
Other strategies might be to have a strong defense an a smaller away team to go get the flag.
Or you could just zerg the flag as an entire team and meet efc in mid or regroup after you get your flag at least to the relative safety of the home base.
Strategy is what I'm most excited about with rated BGs. It's what is missing from arena. Arena is about tactics and quick execution/coordination to CC and score a kill. Usually the first player to die on a team means a loss.
Given that strategy will be so important to success in rated BGs, the good teams will have their strategy down before they queue and probably have a "leader" who is generally calling the shots..asking for players to shift positions and perform various tasks as needed throughout the match.
Jun 4th 2010 3:19PM I have no idea if WSG will be going away or not--personally I doubt they'd get rid of such a classic BG that is still exciting and considered by many to be one of the best. But It makes sense that they are introducing a WSG-style BG (10v10 Capture the flag) given the focus on rated BGs in Cataclysm. While I occasionally enjoy the epic feel of a 40v40 Alterac Valley that doesn't end up in a zerg where we meet at a choke point and fight it out, it's not a good test of coordinated game-play.
WSG is an excellent BG for premades and this new BG should lend itself quite well to rated BGs which will be premades by design. 10 people with a preset makeup, coordinating a planned strategy in vent.
It's been so long since I've gotten a premade vs. premade WSG that I cannot wait for Cataclysm for just that. 10 premade teams all executing a coordinated strategy and counter-strategy will be incredible.
Apr 5th 2010 9:49PM Purge: http://www.wowhead.com/spell=8012
Purge Rank 2
8% of base mana 30 yd range
Purges the enemy target, removing 2 beneficial magic effects.
So shamans currently can only remove buffs from enemies, not purge a magical effect from an friend.
May 5th 2009 11:59PM Warrior = Health/AP
Pally = AP/Armor/Stats
Warlock = Health/Intellect
Mage = Intellect
Hunter = Mana Regeneration/AP
Priest = Health/Shadow Prot.
DK = Heals
Shaman = Haste/Totems
Druid = Stats/AP/Heals
Rogue = *blank* :-(
DK brings Heals. Seriously, did you just say that?
Mar 30th 2009 10:26AM This is an awesome tip! I ran OS and Maly 10mans last night for the first time and that was something I really struggled with: the narrow field of view.
Mar 4th 2009 5:31PM I think Blizzard *is* consistent in their approach to twinking: they ignore it. Personally I'd rather them actively eliminate the practice by adding XP to the battlegrounds, which would have an added bonus of giving players an alternative means of leveling if they enjoy PVP.
I tried doing BG's at the lower levels and gave up: it was pointless because of all the twinks and I had no interest in joining their ranks. I was leveling but wanted to take a break and enjoy the BGs from time to time.
Feb 12th 2009 3:49PM "As a priest a i leveled from 1-60 as shadow and i had NO problem healing ANY instance during that time, when u get to Outlands if u plan on healing just take a hybrid build....its not that bad."
I have to agree. Although it would be really nice to be able to dual-spec a lower levels, it's not necessary to fulfill multiple roles. Your fine-tuned specs and gear really matter most in the end-game. My first toon was an elemental Shaman and almost every time I joined a PUG for an instance I was called upon to heal, and never really had any great difficulty.
