Apr 14th 2009 2:56PM but thats the issue, wowmatrix is not giving us business, they have built a business around using resources from our site and others, which works in certain situations, but when one side is doing all the giving(us) and the other side is doing all the taking, giving nothing in return to the other party(wowmatrix) what possible reason would we continue on this way?
Apr 14th 2009 2:46PM Ok first off, to answer some of you people's comments about wow matrix not taking more bandwidth than usual, you must not how wow matrix works. Their program scrapes the html from other sites, and then uses that to get the link to download the addon, so they are downloading the web page, and the addon, which is alot more bandwidth than the curse client uses. And to the people saying the curse client has keyloggers/adware, show me some proof. I'm sorry that alot of you people now have to find a new way to get your addons, it sucks it had to come to this, but wow matrix had plenty of time to step up and work with us and wowinterface, but they didnt, and now they have to pay the price and unfortunately so do their userbase.
Apr 14th 2009 12:22PM first off, if curse and wowinterface stopped working, so would most addons on wowmatrix. secondsly, the 10k i mentioned is due to bandwidth costs, not ad revenue. and thirdly, unless you run an executable, you can't get a keylogger from an addon.
Apr 14th 2009 12:20PM as someone who sits right next to our client developer, i can tell you neither the mac or pc client is being ignored. You people are just using the curse client not being as good as wow matrix as a scapegoat so you can ignore the real issue: stealing. We give back to community, we are the ones who have addon author donation buttons in our client, we are the ones who are footing wowmatrix's bills, and regardless of the state of the client, that is wrong.
Apr 14th 2009 12:02PM the only problem is wowmatrix doesnt have a product, they have half a product. Would you pay for a car that required you to use stolen gas? or how bout a house that only used stolen power? that's exactly how wowmatrix works
Apr 14th 2009 11:59AM First off, you can disable uploading data to wowdb/wardb in the settings, and as far as writing a better addon manager, like i said in my previous pot, when was the last time you tried the curse client? our 3.0 version came out less than a month ago and have receiving mainly praise about it from people who actually use it. Am i going to say we have the best possible client out there? no, but we are actively working on it. But our client is not the issue here, even if we had no client, we'd still be stopping wowmatrix because bottom line they are raking in the ad money, and leaving us with the 10k+ dollar bill. We tried working out something with wowmatrix and they wanted no part in it. so it seems to me, if anyone in this situation only cares about the money, its wowmatrix, not curse.
Apr 14th 2009 11:43AM as an employee of curse, i'd like to remind people that wowmatrix is costing us 10s of thousands of dollars in bandwidth. And they are profiting from said bandwidth. And for all of you complaining about the curse client, when was the last time you actually used it? The 3.0 client is vastly superior to our previous iterations, and we continue to improve upon it daily. I know wowmatrix was convenient, but that doesn't mean it's right. WowI and Curse provide more than just downloads, we provide services and tools to help the addon community, and the simply fact is, we cannot afford to continue to let wowmatrix leach off us. And remember, if Curse/WowI were to go under because of how much wowmatrix is costing us, theyd break from that too.
Mar 28th 2008 1:25PM actually, that was not the first 3d preview system, wowdb was the first, we had ours in beta(where select curse users could see) months before wowhead had it, and although both wowhead and speedy-dragon's 3d is impressive, they took the easy way out: java. so yes it looks impressive, but somewhere along the line they forgot a DB site is supposed to be fast, and there's is slow slow slow slow, but congrats nonetheless, im flattered that all my hard work has so many imitators :)
Feb 5th 2008 10:15PM zeeg didn't create this site, and as far as innovation, how can you not notice the model viewer? before you go saying that thottbot and wowhead have one, yeah they have one cuz they saw ours in beta, and they put out an almost exact copy to not get shown up(they even use the same type of model format we did).
Feb 4th 2008 11:36PM Nothing new? what about user edited/submitted map locations, what about wishlists, quest maps, full set models on all races/genders(that I worked my ass off on thank you very much), and search assistant. So maybe you should actually check something out before you insult something.
