Jul 20th 2010 4:11PM It's still completely possible to tank ICC10/25 while DW Frost. The threat is not a problem, and the nature of Frost tanking makes up for the 1-2k HP you lose over 2H tanking (less damage intake, ability to push really close to the armor cap via UBA, etc). The problem is that you don't give up a ton of threat to go 2H Frost (not enough to matter anyways), and it is easier to gear 2H Frost if you need more threat or stamina.
It's not that Frost can't tank the endgame stuff, but that because it /is/ behind 2H Frost and Blood in EH that nobody really uses it anymore. When you are working on hardmodes, you take whatever advantages you can get.
Jul 19th 2010 5:37PM Yeah, the first tier of Feral talents are sorely disappointing.
May 25th 2010 4:13PM Water doesn't actually conduct electricity. You can force it to react (electrolysis), but it winds up breaking up the bonds in the H2O molecules and gives you H2 and O2 in a 2:1 ratio.
What does conduct really well are metals, and your normal tap water has plenty of contaminants, including metals that do conduct and float freely in the water itself.
But get a clean glass bowl, fill it with distilled water and try to pass a current through it? Doesn't really work all that well.
May 4th 2010 5:20PM @ginsuedog:
Huh? You get 1% dodge, parry and miss from the runeforge, even if you are defense capped. And that's 3% extra avoidance before DR. The cap is a soft cap that addresses crits. The avoidance side of defense has no such cap.
There really isn't a huge reason to go with anything else unless you have threat problems.
May 4th 2010 5:10PM Keep in mind that Blood tanks currently put out the least AoE threat, and any tank putting out AoE threat isn't putting out their good single-target numbers either. A tank doing 7-10k TPS in a heroic single-target will do maybe 3-6k (with the high end being their primary target) when doing AoE.
Blood tends to fall on the lower end of the AoE chart because they have zero snap threat other than Blood Boil. Just gotta breathe, count to "n" and then open up. Once they have DnD and diseases running in the pack, they are in better shape. But since those are all ticks, they don't have a whole lot of threat when the pestilence goes off.
It isn't that they lack threat, it's that they lack the ability to snap with it on groups. Open up on the mob that gets the IT first, then go into AoE after that, and it should be easier to get decent DPS without pulling off the Blood tank.
Druids have similar issues with AoE (no snap), but they have swipe going off every GCD and don't have to go through 4 GCDs before they start building real threat.
Apr 6th 2010 7:30PM The problem with that is balance. You can tie them to the presence, but it still gives an advantage twice. You just can't use both advantages at the same time, but that's never stopped players in the past, and makes it harder to balance both PvP and PvE content.
Apr 6th 2010 7:18PM Definitely isn't as bad as a lot of people think... but right now there are those having fun with Frost because a DW tank is unique and different right now, or Unholy because of the AoE rotations. Those people will be wincing in pain as their currently preferred playstyle is going away.
Not like Blizz should change their minds now, but people will still be a bit annoyed.
Apr 6th 2010 6:14PM Frost was never /the/ tanking tree. It is the tanking presence, but it isn't the tanking tree.
DW tanking is fun as hell though, and I'll be sad to see it go.
Mar 31st 2010 8:56PM The only real rule about frost is that if you want to DW, you need to be frost to be viable. 2H frost is certainly not broken, and certainly viable. But I think part of the draw of frost is the ability to do decent DW tanking and DPS. I believe DW frost has a threat advantage over 2H frost, but it isn't a big deal when both specs produce plenty of threat.
