Officers' Quarters: Making the most of the guild finder {WoW}

May 2nd 2011 3:32PM The other unfortunate thing is I believe only the GM can modify the guild finder and review applications; it's not something the GM can authorize other officers to do.

Since our guild runs through the helping hands of several officers, with the GM not always on regularly (and, when he is, not always on as his "GM" toon), this isn't very helpful.

Our workaround has simply been to refer people to our website and ask them to apply through the process specified there rather than through the Guild Finder tool.

Gold Capped: Profiting with tailoring {WoW}

Apr 14th 2011 4:54PM Basil suggests averaging the cost of the cooldowns. I prefer to bide my time and just use the lower-end cooldowns (on my server, the ones with volatiles in the 8g-12g range: life, water, sometimes earth, sometimes fire). That's ~300g in volatiles plus 40 cloth @ ~2g = 380g per dreamcloth. Using Volatile Air (often at 20g or up) or buying up Earth and Fire when the prices soar above 15g can hurt the margins badly by driving your cost per cloth up over 600g.

When I look at the dreamcloth craftables, I figure out cost per dreamcloth. For instance:
Belt: ~2400g, about 600g per dreamcloth
Legs: ~5000g, about 830g per dreamcloth
Illusionary bag: ~6000g, about 750g per dreamcloth.

Time to make legs this time. I generally only make one or two at a time, however, because they do NOT sell well or quickly. As you can see from the above example, if you're averaging your dreamcloth cost up by using Volatile Air and Fire, you can't make a profit off the Belt. These prices fluctuate... I've seen the Belt on for 3k, the bag was originally 10-12k but now gets as low as 5k on occasion, the legs occasionally dip into the 4's. It's not the steady petty cash of the other tailoring activities, but it supplements that nicely with some big ticket income at minimal exposure.

Arcane Brilliance: The mage survival guide, part 1 {WoW}

Feb 6th 2011 11:42PM For the sake of all that burns, freezes, or lights up in pretty arcane colors, don't forget Polymorph as an option in 5-mans! For a non-CC pull I've gone to chain sheeping the mob that's aggro'd me to stop it from whacking me.

Sep 11th 2009 3:25PM Because my dropping the Toy Train for all the WOOO WOOOOOO! noises during the Fish Feast isn't annoying enough... I must take it to the next level!

Breakfast Topic: Looking forward to patch 3.3 and the next expansion {WoW}

Aug 7th 2009 11:31AM I haven't seen anyone mention that we should see Muradin Bronzebeard. If you've completed the Brann Bronzebeard quest line, you know that he stalks off determined to hunt down Illidan. If anything, HE'S the real analog to Maiev going into this final patch. I fully expect him to show up within IC and help out on one or more bosses.

Breakfast Topic: Pranks {WoW}

Jan 29th 2009 9:21AM In the middle of a BT run, during a break, everyone but one person came back from AFK early. Everyone ran their toons way back into the instance so they were out of sight, and I think the RL /kick'd him from the raid. Then everyone went completely quiet on vent. When he got back, he had about half a minute of "what the heck?" (other choice words may have been uttered) as he tried to figure out where everyone went, why no one was responding on vent, why he wasn't in the raid anymore... eventually someone said something on vent and then everyone cracked up and let him in on the joke. "Next time," someone said, "we'll /gkick the person too so he can't even ask on guildchat what's going on."

The Queue: I'm sick of pandas {WoW}

Jan 6th 2009 2:31PM I've become a big fan of Parrot, as it works well across all classes and (despite a short learning curve) allows for some great customizations for alerts. For instance, I was sick of always forgetting or not noticing that Hot Streak was up as a fire mage. Now, a sound effect plays and HOT STREAK appears in a giant red font in the middle of my screen. Many such alerts are already built in and can be customized as necessary. I haven't played my Shammy in a while but I expect most of the alerts you're asking for could be added without too much trouble.
