Feb 12th 2008 2:02PM It is worth noting that even though haste may help you apply HoTs faster in 2.4, it still doesn't help the HoT itself in any way. DoTs as well see no benefit from haste, although channeled spells do as of a few patches ago.
I personally find the OOM argument to be a bit ridiculous. You do not spend any more mana than you would normally. Even though your mana-per-second does increase, the mob is dying at a proportionally increased pace; your net number of spell casts and net mana spent will be the exact same. A mob with 10,000 health will be killed with a certain number of spell casts, regardless of how long those spell casts take to complete.
Now, healers may not see the same benefit from haste if the tank doesn't need heals spammed on him. In that case, down rank as appropriate to avoid overheal and conserve mana.
On the other hand, healers also gain a benefit from other members of the group using of haste. After all, the faster a mob dies, the less damage it can do.
Bottom line is, 1% haste = 1% dps. Since it is percent based it scales with your gear and other +dmg (or +heal) items and is one of the best stats you can have.
Feb 12th 2008 1:44PM Note, haste does take talents into account when calculating the original cast time, but only if they're "permanent" changes to a spell's cast time. It does not include buffs which alter the original cast time, such as Light's Grace (a talent) and the proc from Scarab of the Infinite Cycle or the spell haste meta gem..
