Aug 6th 2008 2:32PM "So, we trade one set of mechanics (pushback) for another set (more stuns and better resistances). That would be fair. But what I'm NOT seeing is a real argument for why the second set would be BETTER than the first. Seems the second set would be chock full of annoyances for casters that might be equal or worse to the annoyance factor of pushback."
The difference between them is, with the pushback system your sitting there casting "X"spell thats supposed to take 3 seconds and ends up taking 8-10 seconds just trying to get it 1 spell off....with the pushback removed and resistances put in place, a caster could get off 3 spells in that time, and 1 out of 3 may get resisted, but you have more of a *chance* to hit them atleast, and look..you got 2 successful spells off, maybe even all 3 if you were lucky or geared up or whatever.
It would still be a "who outgears who" battle, but i'd rather have 3 attempts rather than just 1 attempt taking forever and getting locked out at the last second after all the pushback and having to wait 3-6 seconds more just to be able to cast again.
And its not as if this would only affect melee...caster vs caster would be just that more interesting.
yes they would have to balance other things in the game but that would require blizzard to pay employees with the money we shove at them to do these things...oh wait...
Aug 6th 2008 11:58AM yea because priest kiting ftw x10...
Its called a discussion, if you are so sick of all the QQ go elsewhere, man! Almost as bad as those parents out there that constantly complain/write angry letters about tv shows they dont want thier kids to watch...*hint* DONT WATCH IT and be responsible enough to not let your kids watch it!? in this case, dont read WI if your tired of the material.
This mechanic may or may not ever change, but unless someone talks about it, it may never get looked into. The very game you play at this moment has been overhauled and changed because people spoke up about something that was wrong or should be changed, and if blizz found that it wasn't doable, they usually tell us..(even if it does take forever)
You have no idea if a blizz dev reads this site, as do i. But thats just the point, you never know.

That exact reason would be why making resistances more common place on gear would need to be upped. Atleast with the method i propose, u have a chance to completey avoid the dmg if u resist it. (which i think is a fair trade off) As it is now, very rarely can someone resist something (pvp wise), all your able to do is just negate critical hits with resil (which is also important to)

Before you pass judgment on people's play style being bad or not, obviously you see the issue to because you basically pointed out the glaring problem.
Yes rogues are OP but the stun mechanics that were given to them is what makes that so, I do agree however on this point
"- allow Armor to mitigate the damage of spells"
Your basically saying resistances should be more important...making resistances more important imo, in place of spell push back would be a welcome change. This would be for everyone, not just melee. Stun resist anyone?
I do realize that rogues need these mechanics to do their job, but come on...making it harder to stun people/having to deal with caster being able to cast through the stuns with talents/gear would separate the good rogues from the button mashers laughing as they own face just because blizzard gave them the ability to do so w/o any real skill.

..yes i came to wow from EQ and i actually wish spells were handled more like they were on there than in wow....atleast in EQ u could cast though stuns w/o interruption (via AAs) and your casting would not actually stop or be pushed back when u were getting hit by melee attacks...they would however stop when u were *STUNNED* and i mean a real stun (paladins come to mind), that stuns u just for a moment not the OP lock methods of rogues.
EQ really was more about skill, with gear coming in at a close close second but the balance issues made it impossible and unfair for pvp regardless (even with pvp being as borked as it was in that game towards the later expansions, laughable in most cases no balance whatsoever..forget even trying as an enchanter with as many stuns as we had, level caps on the stuns, resistances, and not being able to charm people made it impossible...and mezzing...LOL, right. and DPS...well if you played EQ, you know where enchanters are on DPS, scraping the bottom with clerics)
But also keep in mind EQ didnt have a whole lot of instant spells like wow (most were AAs that i came across, i played a raiding enchanter and a cleric), that also makes a huge difference.
Aug 6th 2008 10:13AM Have to say that I agree here on this matter...Spell pushback either needs a major reduction/diminishing returns, or taken out all together...as a healing priest now (also have a 70 lock I pvp'd with before I rolled priest, and no way would I go into BGs w/o instant Howl of Terror) its almost as if my talent into Healing Focus becomes null and void when the Grim Reapers (I.E. rogues) come around.
Granted I’m not trying to do any dmg, I basically have to pray I live long enough to Fear (Which they either resist or trinket out of, forget trying this on a warrior), Bubble, PoM and Renew myself while, in most cases, follow it up with spam flash heals on myself. This is all while trying to make sure I’m spinning around enough that they cant get behind me again, till someone comes to help....and all that rogue is basically doing is auto attacking making spell pushback and throwing in OP stuns that last until he can stun me again...(which in my opinion is not a stun with the length of time it lasts...its more of an incapacitate, even more so when they follow it up with kidney shot) and don't get me started on that long as crap crippling, mind numbing poisons.
A stun shouldn’t last more than 3 seconds….5-6 with talents imo. Dazing should be done with altogether.
Tweaking down or taking this mechanic out would make playing a priest somewhat better knowing that I at least have a chance to outlive the rogues/warriors attacks that much longer and can rely more on my own spells and not gimmicky trinkets that are negated almost immediately after using them.
P.S….give priests some form of poison removal, even if its self only. Never heard tale of a priest that couldn’t cure poison till I came to wow lol, that’s just dumb. Most powerful healing class can’t take off the most basic of inflictions. Priests should be able to cure all with other healing classes specializing in a certain area of curing.
And dwarves don’t count with their racial, because A) alliance not for the win and B) I don’t like dwarves.
Jul 25th 2008 11:03AM Wow...its really that serious for you Edboy? Such an "injustice" as this for you not to be a douchebag?
Apparently arrogance doesn’t run in your blood….it gallops
Honestly if I kept seeing something I didn’t like and could voluntarily avoid seeing it...I would. I wouldn’t voluntarily go out of my way to do something(s) I don’t like and then bitch about it, and try to hide behind some facade that I'm doing someone an injustice by depriving them of my 2 cents worth on the thing I hated to begin with Sounds like you just like to hear yourself talk.
On that note as well, I guess I would be bitter to if I kept forcing myself to read something I knew I wasn’t going to like….seems like the resolution to this would be for you to fill that gaping hole between your nose and your chin with a big helping of STFU.
Jul 25th 2008 8:42AM haha, pwnt!
Good job on the comic Megan, Keep it up!
Jul 18th 2008 9:23AM The "you suck comments and you cant draw comments" are a bit over the top and unnecessary. I bet half the people saying that cannot even draw themselves. I felt I needed to interject here because there is a *distinct* difference between offering criticism and being flat out rude. How about if you don’t like it, start up your own wowblog site and then let people comment on how much you suck just for breathing....
On topic...The drawings are very nice however I did not exactly get the gist of this specific comic. Since I cannot draw or am all that great at telling jokes, I do not have any advice to offer...But looking forward to next weeks comic!
