Kalgan offers a possible WoTLK sneak peek for Warlocks {WoW}

Mar 7th 2008 8:29AM This upcoming change looks to be both a nerf and a buff to the warlock class. Currently warlocks have a ton of health and the ability to siphon life back to themselves to give even more aparent health. This is not a direct spell that can be pointed out, but it is a passive defensive mechanic of the warlock. Locks can stand toe-to-toe with melee and remain standing compared to a mage that has little health and even smaller dmg mitigation from talents and tricks. I find this dependance on a large raw health pool frustrating because warlocks for pvp viability usually need to spec into soul link to make this defence work.

It looks to me from this post by kalgan is that they want to cut back on the huge health pool and tanking capabilities that a warlock comes with in WotLK, and replace it with other, class defining escape/defensive abilities.

The fleeting life-tap change that we saw recently with percentage of health removed instead of a set number can show a powerful warlock with a different itemization, if they are given other spells to offset their current high-health passive defense. Executing a change like that is difficult right now to re-itemize all the warlock gear and skills, but it would be simple to change itemization of the warlock in WotLK becuase we will all get a gear-reset at level 75 anyway.

I would look forward to this change if it means more flexibility to the warlock class other than "i can tank it, i have a ton of health" Although I would like to see other escape/defensive changes if blizzard's plan is to remove our passive high health defense. Something like the self banish, or even like a demonic form that will raise speed and defence for 10 seconds, but drop dmg output at the same time. The warlock class was initially designed as "power for sacrifice" I believe they can do alot with this and still keep the defensive mechanics of the warlock non-mage like.
